Now that we know they left between 2 & 3 and heard Shepard narrating one of the trailers. What's the chances that Big Boss N7 Thundervag was aware of the AI? To me, this cannot be: WE ARE Shepard, he knows what we knows... It is ok, though, if other character of the trilogy knew of the Ark and didn't tell us/Shep. Nah I disagree. The AI is an astronomically large endeavour. At best it is seen as a boondoggle of epic proportions, at worst it's seen as a breach of the treaty of Farixen by the upstart race that continues to grow power after gaining council status. Every informed adult in the galaxy should know about it, Shepard included.

Not disbelieving, but do you have a link? Phrasing can be all-too-important for these things. And I've been out of the loop. Oh, don't worry, I doubt they'll mention they Reapers. But it's not an alternate universe. Sorry no. But I was served with the link after I tried saying Shepard must have been alive because of vid. I think it was Aaryn Flynn who knocked it down. It's nothing more than a final goodbye to fans from Shep. Which in itself doesn't make sense since it leaves before ME3, and therefore when Shepard is alive... Not that the fans knew that at the time, but Bioware must have. Confirmed on twitter to be the case. @thread we should probably accept that things won't make sense if you're trying to merge the Milky Way trilogy TL, with the Andromeda TL. So I'm hoping there's no mention at all of any Reapers, if there even is a mention of anything Shepard related at all. Because AFAIC this as an AU where there were no Reapers. But that's if the Arkships don't turn out to be a conspiracy to escape the Reapers, without telling the passengers. *Fingers crossed* Pretty sure that's the case. Flynn or Walters slipped it out with " most of Ark inhabitats aren't aware of Reapers". So we'll be able to find out about them in game if we ask right person right question. Though it will be some minor background info at that moment. Since they keep tweaking MEA timeline, I wouldn't be surprised if departure will end up in 2186 with last Orientation video being like - Since all our ships are finally ready for the expedition... *one of tubes falls off in background* - ... we've decided to depart without further delay. The problem with the Arks secretly being for escaping the Reapers is that they were started in 2176, when no one knew about them. It's possible they ended up doubling as that after 2183, but it can't have been their original goal. Again, that depends entirely on whether or not the project was secret. If it wasn't secret then the whole galaxy will know, & if the galaxy knows then the reapers will know, & if that's the case then our Andromeda bound travelers are going to get seriously unwelcome visitors 600+ years down the line. Two possibilities: 1. The Reapers do know about them and really don't care if some (relatively) small number of organics tries to go to another galaxy where they'll likely die anyway. 2. The Reapers would have gone after them after the current invasion, but no matter which ending you chose (besides refuse), they wouldn't need to do that anymore. And yes, I think the whole galaxy knew based on what we currently know. We'll see.

For me the time when the arks are starting is a Problem.
If I remember correct, we saw too much battleships at the final fight of Sol in ME3. In ME1 they say that the humans are allowed to have 6 Battleships, and they had 5 finished and one in building Progress. After ME1 the humans become part of the council what increased the allowed number of Battleships.
1. How can the humans build a battleship fleet when their shipyards are buisy building the Ark? The number of trained technicans and engeneers is limited.
2. Same with the salarians. They build a whole cloakable battleship fleet. How can they do that when the most worker are building the ark?
3. The reapers. The News will talking about such a big Project. You know the News, they call someone who be an expert on his area and Show you a graphic with an estimated direction of the arc. At the Point the reapers arrive the arks are only a few month on their way. Close enough the catch them for the reapers.
My opinion would be, that the arks start closely before ME1. If they already on their way at ME1 there is nothing more to speak for the News and the distance would be much bigger, so the reapers wouldn´t find them easiely. And, if the arks start before ME1 there could be the Impression for the reapers, that they are no threat, because they don´t know anything about them.
There are Quantum Communicator in the Mass effect universe. Real time communication with endless range, perfect to Keep the contact to the arks. But the Quantum Communicators have a weak Point: It is a two way communication System, means, if one device is detroyed, it couln´t be replaced. If the reapers don´t destroy them with their attack on earth, palavan and thessia than I think the Project Crew will destroy them to protect the arks. Also destroy any detailed data about the arks. Till the Arrival of the reapers at earth at the beginning of ME3 they could still send the arks data like Software updates for the ark Systems or blueprints for ship Upgrades and weapons.
All that would explain, why sheapard doesn´t say anything about the arks. The thematic is closed. You couldn´t do anything for or against the ark.

I hope not. With all that is wrong about this initiative, I want Shepard having nothing to do with it. As I remember it, they immediately had Shepard fuck around looking for geth in the Traverse for two months after the Battle of the Citadel, which of course ended with Shepard pining for the fjords for two years. By the time Shepard returned from Norway, the Ai had already left. I don't think Shepard could be in any way involved in the project.

The point of connection between the two series should be Alec Ryder and not Shepard. IE Shepard does not know much about the AI, if anything, but Ryder knows Shepard. So Ryder could easily say to Shepard 'hey you know Shepard there is this thing I am apart of. Its an expedition and...long story short...but if you could record a message for us leaving that would be great, thanks.'
Personally though I doubt we will see any real connection given that Shepard themselves is a rather important game play choice. he gender of Shepard varies greatly.

This initiative isn't secretive, look at the hundreds of thousands of different species that were recruited. You're telling me no one ever knew of this? Shepard should've known, in fact it doesn't make a lot of sense if he didn't know... His political influence reaches beyond some initiative that was being built in the middle of space. The alliance would know of such a thing, the council races would all know of this as well. He'd be well informed regarding this. The other problem is him not mentioning it at all is problematic as well, there are many instances where bringing up the AI would've made sense. Also Mrs. Shadowbroker would know and tell Shepard anyways. Liara should know 100%.

Nah, aside the "Goodbye" message, the only involvement of Shep in the AI would be: (when he/she is going back to Earth pre-ME3) Joker: We're passing close to the moon Commander Shep: *looking through a window* Dayum son!, that's some big ass ship what they are building there Joker: ah... yes Commander...

This is my theory, FWIW: The AI started out as a fanciful exploration project that everyone knew about pre ME1, including Shep. However, Shep's attitude could be summed up as follows: After ME1, some of the AI bigwigs became convinced that a reaper invasion was imminent and ramped up the project, bringing the launch date forward. Outwardly, however, very little changed and most people's attitudes towards the project were pretty ambivalent. Given that Shepard was dead, with Cerberus, imprisoned and then dodging reapers, he either didn't know or didn't care (see above) that the expedition had gone.

I think they would have been well served to release a remastered edition of the original trilogy in which they wove in a few things about the AI. Maybe even use Mike Fest's idea about declining and recommending the senior Ryder, throw in a construction station in the background in ME1 when doing the Luna mission and overhearing a couple news reports in ME2 when visiting the Citadel or Illium for example. Maybe a few other trivial things to sell the illusion to segue into MEA.

I also think that the speech Shepard gives isn't meant for the people of AI, but was a meta thing and was for the fans. It boggles my mind how this isn't obvious to some people.

Probably with significant overlap with the people currently complaining that Andromeda and the trilogy aren't connected closely enough.

After ME3, my Shepard would have been the first to sign up! To leave the Milky Way? Ha. Mine wouldn't. Besides what does Andromeda have that the Milky Way doesn't? Mine would miss Earth. Going to all those excellent vacation spots. But the number one thing why? Likes watching football on Sundays. Or go to the game to see the Panthers play in person. excellent

Sorry, I didn't read all posts. So this may of been said, but it would been better Shepard didn't tell anyone. Reason would be, if someone close to Shepard, like Garrus, Wrex, or Mordin for example were captured and tortured for information. Then the Reapers would attempt to travel and destroy the Arks. If Shepard and the people working on the AI, were the only ones who knew, then it would be in humanity's best if Shepard kepted tight lipped.

I really want Shep to know nothing about Andromeda Initiative. He/She has no need to know as his/her responsibility is front lines against reapers for whom such knowledge would be of interest and i don't want them using their hand of god to go back in time and fiddle with my character and their knowledge and motivations.

Hopefully the speech by Shepard in that trailer was just a marketing gimmick, and it doesn't appear in the game.
Now that we know the Andromeda Initiative has nothing to do with the Reaper War or the Alliance military, why would Commander Shepard be giving them a motivational send off? It wouldn't make any sense.
I'm all for the A.I. being tied to characters or events from the Shepard trilogy, but only if it fits seamlessly into the story. Commander Shepard making an appearance would not. The game could do without ham-handed fanservice.

the way I see it is that Shepard definitely knew about it but chose not to mention it because it is not relevant to what s/he is doing running around the milky way galaxy gathering forces and looking for clues on how to end the reaper threat once and for all.
