So I just unlocked the volus protector (again). The build I went with was; Radius, for the cc, which is my usual charge choice, and was definitely effective in tests. Whether to go with weapon or power synergy was my first question, and I decided to forget about power damage and go for weapons and cc. I took bonus power to up that charge rate, something I haven't done before, but had been convinced to try by a thread a while ago. Totally worth it. The extra shields are a crutch. Getting a bunch of cooldownless charges out in a row is damn fun.
I didn't take shield boost. It's kind of annoying(+ that bug). And if I was off cooldown I'd just charge rather than use it, and keep the attack chain going. So I guess that lets me max out shields, even though I usually just go fitnessless(just don't get hit right).
I took impact radius, recharge speed, and expose on the orbs. Recharge speed because I'm not going with power damage on this build. Now I'm thinking of changing it though, because it doesn't really have much affect given that I'll not be spending much time with all orbs up anyway and the recharge gains from three or four of them aren't really noticeable. I guess keeping four orbs up with the recharge speed bonus and spamming the fuck outta charge might be a valid tactic, I don't know, doesn't sound that fun though. So damage instead of recharge.
Weapon damage passives(except the power damage/shield boost option, where I obviously took power damage), and I brought an eviscerator since my manifest on ps3 isn't too deep yet. Really missing my goddamn Paladin X lately.
Any opinions? Does anyone disagree with not taking shield boost?
Edit: Forgot to say, the general strategy was orb(expose) a target, charge him, shoot/orb whoever is around(and roll around a little it), keep charging. Expose>charge doesn't synergise with the weapon damage over power damage choice, but oh well.

I usually run a no-fitness build on voluses. I don't find maxing fitness worth skipping entirely Shield Boost, this power is very useful for yourself (sometimes it's better to avoid charging) but also for your teammates, especially during objectives. I agree with both radius evos, weapon damage and bonus power on Charge and expose on Orbs (the volus vanguard needs any help he can get versus bosses IMO). For the recharge speed choice at rank 5 of Biotic Orbs, I would say damage is probably better if you're using a light weapon.

For me, he is a close-quarter wrecking ball. I'm playing him rather conventional - taking Radius, Weapon Synergy and Barrier on Charge, maxing out Shield Boost with Recharge evo at rank 5. Biotic Orbs I only use for the bonus to Recharge Speed. For passives I am maxing weapon damage while ensuring that I can stagger Phantoms with Biotic Charge. The playstyle is basicly: Volus cloak, charge in, unload a full clip of the Reegar with Incendiary Ammo and then Reload Cancel with Shield Boost. Rinse and repeat. The bonuses to Recharge Speed let me charge about really quickly even when wielding the Reegar, and Barrier evo on Charge combined with full Shield Boost lets me survive the brief moments where I can't charge or Volus cloak.
Generally I prefer to play all my Voluses more as supporting characters, so I opt for a little more survivability in really bad situations over more offensive power.

Well, I didn't skip shield boost in favour of fitness, I just decided against shield boost and fitness was all I had left. I get that it's a unique useful utility but it just bores me, I could be repositioning/shooting/orbing in those no charge situations.

Does anyone have a plat build for him that doesn't involve reegar ? I tried the usual no-fitness build with the pirate but I find it a bit weak on plat.

Shield boost makes him damn near invincible if used right with no latency in the connection.

Charge is for him to get in quickly and get weapon synergy bonus. Most of the time is Shield Boost spamming and Reetard cheesing.
When the connection is good he's very safe to play.
Stealth charge to engage, kill everything before they find what happened, shield boost and run away.
And I will not mention the glorious Batarian Gauntlet style

It is not so boring actually. You are tissue paper so carefulness is still needed. But being able to charge around the battlefield and burn everything down with such a fragile guy is real fun.

I say if you're gonna take Bonus Charge, it makes sense to go with Power Synergy, unless you never choose to Charge several times in succession.
