I like Kouji Mori's works. Him continuing Berserk for Miura reminds me of the situation for The Wheel of Time novels. Interesting. I just assumed Berserk was finished. There is always concern when someone new continues the work of the original creator, but I'd rather see an attempt be made and potentially fail, than no attempt at all. From what I've heard that Grunbeld book by Makoto Fukami was complete trash, so wasn't exactly optimistic before.

I like Kouji Mori's works. Him continuing Berserk for Miura reminds me of the situation for The Wheel of Time novels. Interesting. I just assumed Berserk was finished. There is always concern when someone new continues the work of the original creator. I'd rather see an attempt be made and potentially fail, than no attempt at all. From what I've heard that Grunbeld book by Makoto Fukami was complete trash, so wasn't exactly optimistic before. But this is not an out of the blue manga author; Mori has known Miura for decades and they’ve talked about Berserk for almost as many years. More importantly, Miura told Mori how Berserk should end. Miura had several interviews a bit before his passing that revealed that he was aware of his health and mortality which implies that he no doubt left outlines and notes for his assistants to use. I have more confidence in Mori and his team to finish Berserk as close as how Miura wanted it to end. It won’t be the A+ story we know and love, but I’ll be happy with a solid B. |

The first two chapters of Berserk without author Kentaro Miura just dropped.
Without spoilers, its a little light on the dialogue but the art is nearly perfect. It's also very straight forward and escalates incredibly quickly compared to Miura's long, building tension then eruption style of action/storytelling.
Next issue is in two weeks. At this pace, they might actually finish the Arc and start the final one at the end of summer.

It's weird without Miura but his assistants are putting in the effort, and have managed to get Zodd's look and the scope of his size right. Another thing i noticed too is that Hajime No Ippo's author Morikawa who was a friend of Miura (former assistant too) has picked up the pace of his manga, and it's probably due to how hard he took Miura's death.

Watching this, it feels like their relationship could be a great RL manga story itself.
