Honestly I'm not loving the show enough to care. Then again, my interest in Dragon Ball Z dwindled after the Freeza arc.
The constant power up escalation just got so... gratuitous.
I'm literally just pulling it up on my tablet, setting it up next to my monitor, and glancing at it occasionally to get the gist of the subtitles while I game. At this point I'm just watching to see how it goes.
though Super had Future Trunks, who is my favorite character in the franchise.
I was disinterested in most of the anime that came out in 2016. I barely watched anything from that year.
Yeah, I didn't watch that many anime in 2016 either.
Only picked up a few every season and dropped even some.
The only ones I completed and liked were:
Mob Psycho 100 Re Zero Konosuba Boku No Hero Acedamia Jojo Part 4
Jojo is great. Too bad "Great Days" didn't get nominated for best opening. That song was really good and the animation sequences for all versions were well done too.
Live Long and prosper.
"The battle for freedom is never won until every heart is freed by the freedom which frees us to a new tomorrow. Freedom!"

David Production always does a great job with the Jojo openings. And Great Days would probably be in my top 3 op for 2016.

All my favorite top 3 OPs are from Gundam tbh

I kind of forgot to add something to that post.
I meant that Great Days would be in my top 3 openings for 2016.
Favorite 3 OP's would be a nightmare to figure out. There's so much to consider when rating an OP that it would take a long time to narrow all those OP's I've seen just to one.
Re Zero not winning any awards (well aside from Rem being best girl) is not why I think those anime awards are awful.
Well you have to admit...a lot of people are bitching about it not being included, so I figured it was a fair guess.
Yeah, it was a very popular show so that doesn't really surprise me.
My issue with the awards aren't just that Re Zero wasn't nominated but that the nominees themselves were pretty bad. People can vote all they want and just like in game/movie awards there will always be things I'll disagree with but you would at least expect that the people at Crunchyroll have a good list of nominees.
I can easily give you a few examples of things that baffled me (and a lot of other people):
Villian of the year: The Villian that won was the villian in Erased. Yes, the anime where almost everyone you ask will tell you that the anime got worse when the Villian was revealed. That guy shouldn't have been in the list to begin with. Even people that liked Erased will tell you that it has a bad villian. And he's not the only Villian that made his anime worse! Kabenari also got nominated and most people will also tell you that that anime got worse once Biba got introduced.
Best ED: Really? Yaoi on Ice won? Even though I don't like that anime I'll admit that it has a fantastic OP but ED?! Come on there's so much better ED's made in 2016 like these two and they weren't even nominated!:
Of course there's also stuff I disagree with when it comes to votes like the most heartwarming moment or the best drama of the year.
Oh and they even put a couple in the couple nominees that isn't even a couple to begin with.
Guess I just expected better from the western anime audience.

I honestly don't know a lick about most animes even listed on there to be honest.
I suppose if I cared about any anime from 2016 it might irritate me but my apathy is tempered by the fact I didn't watch many new series what so ever. So I guess I am indifferent to their scaling, I mean I rarely pay attention to lists in general but that said isn't this entire award thing based around voting numbers? If majority wins then it really isn't Crunchyroll's bad is it? They merely offered choices and people voted on those choices, I guess their sentiment on whatever was in question differed from those who find fault with it.

You're right that the winners are based on around the voting numbers.
The nominees not so much:
Welcome to The Anime Awards! This inaugural event is for you, the passionate anime community, to choose your anime favorites among 14 categories determined by an independent panel of industry experts.
The nominees didn't get voted in but were chosen by "industry experts".
This was nominated for best animated anime 2016:
Another way Crunchyroll screwed up big time:
There was no restrictions to voting at all. You simply reload the page multiple times and continue to vote. The site would recognize if you voted before sometimes, but sometimes it wouldn't and there's other easy methods to trick it like using a different browser. It should definitely be tied to a Crunchyroll account next time to negate some of that.

*snip*
Well nothing can be done about it now though can it?
I mean Gundam Thunderbolt presumably didn't even make the listing now did it? Despite the fact it had some to my eye very well done fight scenes.
I guess it was so early into 2016 that people just forgot this shit existed.
So. I hate Anime tropes, just getting it out of the way. What I saw of them grated on my nerves severely.
However, I'm not against the general idea of cartoons Vs. other types of media.
What would you guys recommend to someone that hates anime tropes but likes Sci-Fi (and fantasy to a lesser extent)?
Any particular anime tropes you dislike? There's a lot of different ones.
But I do have a few good unique anime you might like:
(They're not sci-fi but they're the kind of anime somone who doesn't watch a lot of anime might like)
Fate Zero:
With the promise of granting any wish, the omnipotent Holy Grail triggered three wars in the past, each too cruel and fierce to leave a victor. In spite of that, the wealthy Einzbern family is confident that the Fourth Holy Grail War will be different; namely, with a vessel of the Holy Grail now in their grasp. Solely for this reason, the much hated "Magus Killer" Kiritsugu Emiya is hired by the Einzberns, with marriage to their only daughter Irisviel as binding contract.
Kiritsugu now stands at the center of a cutthroat game of survival, facing off against six other participants, each armed with an ancient familiar, and fueled by unique desires and ideals. Accompanied by his own familiar, Saber, the notorious mercenary soon finds his greatest opponent in Kirei Kotomine, a priest who seeks salvation from the emptiness within himself in pursuit of Kiritsugu.

Psycho Pass:
Justice, and the enforcement of it, has changed. In the 22nd century, Japan enforces the Sibyl System, an objective means of determining the threat level of each citizen by examining their mental state for signs of criminal intent, known as their Psycho-Pass. Inspectors uphold the law by subjugating, often with lethal force, anyone harboring the slightest ill-will; alongside them are Enforcers, jaded Inspectors that have become latent criminals, granted relative freedom in exchange for carrying out the Inspectors' dirty work.
Into this world steps Akane Tsunemori, a young woman with an honest desire to uphold justice. However, as she works alongside veteran Enforcer Shinya Kougami, she soon learns that the Sibyl System's judgments are not as perfect as her fellow Inspectors assume. With everything she has known turned on its head, Akane wrestles with the question of what justice truly is, and whether it can be upheld through the use of a system that may already be corrupt.

Shinsekai Yori:
Following a sudden outbreak of psychokinesis in 0.1% of the population, a rapid transformation swept the world. The godlike ability to manipulate matter remotely turned many power wielders to violence, inciting a long period of upheaval. Finally, after a chaotic era shaped by the rise and fall of oppressive regimes, the psychic humans were able to achieve a fragile peace by isolating their society, creating a new world bound by complex rules.
In the town of Kamisu 66, 12-year-old Saki Watanabe has just awakened to her powers and is relieved to rejoin her friends—the mischievous Satoru Asahina, the shy Mamoru Itou, the cheerful Maria Akizuki, and Shun Aonuma, a mysterious boy whom Saki admires—at Sage Academy, a special school for psychics. However, unease looms as Saki begins to question the fate of those unable to awaken to their powers, and the children begin to get involved with secretive matters such as the rumored Tainted Cats said to abduct children.
Shinsekai yori tells the unique coming-of-age story of Saki and her friends as they journey to grow into their roles in the supposed utopia. Accepting these roles, however, might not come easy when faced with the dark and shocking truths of society, and the impending havoc born from the new world.

Try this:
I'm not just joking either, it really is about people collecting rubbish in space. Specifically, trying to get the debris out of earths orbit to keep space travel (somewhat) safe.
The manga version is surprisingly good, and I hear good things about the anime version too.
AKA: Evil Mastered on XBL and Evil_Rurouni on PSN. My theme tune.™
Based on your username, I would think you'd already be aware of Ghost in the Shell. If it's just a coincidence, try Ghost in the Shell. It's seinen (geared towards adults) so it definitely avoids all the typical anime tropes seen in shonen stuff.
I didn't even know that there was a Gundam Thunderbolt.
You should watch the videos I uploaded tbh.
It will teach all about Gundam Thunderbolt.
Just watched and yeah those were actually some very good scenes.
Very well paced and very pretty to look at also some very solid animation. Surprising to see the "Psycho" use the gundam. Haven't watched Gundam but from what I've heard and from what I saw from those vids you showed me I always figured that the hero gets to use it.
And I've gotta say that they certainly didn't hold back on the brutality in war.
