They're not needed as tanks, since humans don't seem to implement krogans in their Pathfinder team (the possible krogan squadmate is probably not a part of the team originally, like Peebee). They will try to colonize planets themselves. Given the genophage, their numbers won't become so big to be a threat for the other species.
In any case, we'll know more later I guess.

I'm with Khrystyn on this, I personally don't see any logical reason why the Krogan are going... but "popularity" trumps in-game logic. Really, if the Krogan can get a free pass on the Andromeda Initiative despite their culture, and history with two out of the four Council species, then it wouldn't be anymore of a stretch to see the Rachni present on this trip too.
But they are here, so I will have to deal with them. I just pray to God that their entire narrative arc doesn't revolve around the Genophage and "Krogan Babies" again. I would also like to see some new takes to their culture and personality. We already had a sizable portion of the original trilogy devoted to the Krogan and their issues, and while I would prefer that another original species get their time in the spotlight, the least BioWare could do is give us a Krogan storyline that isn't just some rehash of what we've already seen.

I think they will have a new story. After all we will be seeing the Krogan in a position we have never seen them in before: equals in our society. Granted they were allies with the rest of the galaxy in ME3, but the game couldn't really focus on that and while allies they weren't necessarily friends with the other races. This time we will be able to see that and the potential with it. For example the Krogan and Council races, mainly Turians and Salarians, putting the past behind them for a common goal and both sides seeing the good in each other. With that one shot in the trailer showing a Salarian and Krogan having workstations on the Tempest right next to each other, I can see plenty of playful banter happening between them. Maybe they start out not liking each other but over the course of the game they get past that and become friends. This applies to the other races seen as enemies or lesser in the franchise so far, which is why I hope Quarians, Geth, etc come along as well. I would also love the Rachni to show up as well, since them working together with Krogan would also be really interesting and have potential.

Well they could probably make a cure over time. And if they send say a thousand krogan it is very possible that they will reproduce enough to have them survive though at a smaller number. And I am sure they some scientist could do something like make a temproary fix for one birth or so. Like take this medicine or this treatment and it will increase the survival rate. Or just find a way to increase it somewhat

And I am sure they some scientist could do something like make a temproary fix for one birth or so. Like take this medicine or this treatment and it will increase the survival rate. Or just find a way to increase it somewhat They don't actually need to make a cure: 1: as has been noted - the genophage merely brings Krogan fertility down to a "natural" survival rate (e.g. the survival rate as was before they were uplifted) - 1 in 1000. They'll do just fine on just about any planet they happen to colonise - most will be less of a post-apocalyptic wasteland than Tuchanka. 2: they'll evolve around the genophage eventually anyway - they were already doing so before Mordin and the STG modified it. Eventually the Krogan themselves could be problematic unless they have another Wrex/Eve to help refocus their society.

I'm hoping the krogan are part of the AI because of Eve or at least lead by someone like her and the krogan on the Nexus have been hand picked because they're not the typical wanna be warlords.
Wrex wasn't in a position to smuggle fertile woman off world or get the krogan accepted as part of the expedition but Eve was and I could see her doing it.
