So I just got to play these games for the first time and finished ME1 recently. I've heard people say that combat was a lot better in ME2 but now that I got to play it I don't see how. The sprint feels slow and lacking in precision, crouching at will was removed and the cover/sprint is mapped to the same button, not the brightedst idea ever I must say. My character feels like a magnet, I think I'm even gonna stop using sprint all together tbh, I often get into cover in the wrong places and it just feels awkward. I'mnot happy about the sniper rifles having zero sway either, just makes me feel like I'm commanding a turret instead of Shep.

Movement is one of the few things I might knock ME2 for, but really ME1 had movement problems as well. I disliked the auto-cover of that game more than the omnibutton of ME2.
One of the main improvements is that on PC at least you can map squad powers to the quick slots, and you have the squad attack commands. Makes squad management a bit faster than repeatedly pulling up the command hud in ME1.
I also liked that they tuned down the bullet-sponginess of enemies from ME1 to ME2. Helped make combat seem a little faster paced.

Yea ME1 had its problems but I could just crouch and move behind cover and/or do a fast sprint into some area that I wanted to actually take cover. I just felt like I had more control over what I was doing, in 2 I have to avoid sprinting, it just doesn't work If there are multiple objects nearby besides it's very difficult to turn while sprinting, Shep just ends up taking cover in the nearest object and quite often right in the line of enemy fire. I really don't see the advantage of removing crouch either, anybody who didn't want to use it didn't have to, that and using a different button/key to map the sprinting action would've made the combat so much better imo. I guess I'll just have to put up with it, I even thought about the PC version but seems like there are no mods that can fix it.

I felt the same honestly. I felt I had more control in ME1 than 2. Although ME2 is designed to make u feel like actual combat where it is faster and tries to make it seamless. Yet I felt that it only appears polished but not useful. I can no longer press F to heal my health and that was very useful in ME1.
