I'm reading the comic Barbaric, of which I've just heard Netflix is preparing a live-action adaptation. I really hope they do justice to the comic

I don't read a lot of comics, but I recently picked up Bone. I haven't read it since I was kid, it's very charming so far.

Finally realised that the story of Kate and Curran with their son, Curlan, daughter by blood, Julie and Erra, the aunt or Rose of Tigris continues on! I thought Kate and Curran's story ended with Magic Triumphs but am happy to know their adventures continue. I hope the the authors don't end this series. At least, not yet. There's so much more these two have to build. I really enjoyed all the books they have written. Filled with exciting adventures, tough obstacles to overcome, great character development and humour. Now in Magic Claims. Not very sure why Kate called Erra, Curlan's grandmother, I may have missed something. Perhaps it's in Blood Heir which is Julie's story after she decided to part with Erra after the epic battle with Kate's dad.

just finished the 2nd opus of the WoT (the great hunt) and starting the third. I enjoyed it, especially the climax building in Falme, but it pretty fell flat for me. I wonder why to be honest cause if i think about it, i have only minor concerns. Maybe the TV show was just more entertaining, just being on the screen and not read. I liked the book but maybe not enough to carry reading, still feels a complete waste of time . One good thing is that "the dragon reborn" is shorter . O I have few concerns with the story too. maybe i ll go post some in the wot thread

I don't normally read nonfiction, but I'm making an exception here. Listening to JD Vance's Hillbilly Elegy (I was curious about him since he's running for VP). And it's proving to be a compelling listen. It's both a memoir of sorts about his family, and a critique of Appalachian culture since the Second World War. I may have to check out the Netflix film after this Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis—that of white working-class Americans. The disintegration of this group, a process that has been slowly occurring now for more than forty years, has been reported with growing frequency and alarm, but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.
The Vance family story begins hopefully in postwar America. J. D.'s grandparents were "dirt poor and in love," and moved north from Kentucky's Appalachia region to Ohio in the hopes of escaping the dreadful poverty around them. They raised a middle-class family, and eventually one of their grandchildren would graduate from Yale Law School, a conventional marker of success in achieving generational upward mobility. But as the family saga of Hillbilly Elegy plays out, we learn that J.D.'s grandparents, aunt, uncle, and, most of all, his mother struggled profoundly with the demands of their new middle-class life, never fully escaping the legacy of abuse, alcoholism, poverty, and trauma so characteristic of their part of America. With piercing honesty, Vance shows how he himself still carries around the demons of his chaotic family history.
A deeply moving memoir, with its share of humor and vividly colorful figures, Hillbilly Elegy is the story of how upward mobility really feels. And it is an urgent and troubling meditation on the loss of the American dream for a large segment of this country.

I love the WoT series, but there's definitely a lot of... extra. Guy wasn't the most concise writer to put pen to paper, that's for sure. But some of the absolute best moments in any books I've ever read come later on in the WoT series (Dumai's Wells omfg), so there is a pretty hefty payoff to those willing to skim through the excess time spent on unnecessary sub-plots (Perrin and Faile, I'm looking at you).

Thx for the heads up I might skip stuff then. I was thinking asking for an extended summary to an ai , maybe I ll only ask for Perrin The guy writes okay, not so bad. But yeah, not really efficient and, I m more convinced now, not very good at action scenes.(Well designed chars, and world and story arc for sure)

It gets a little uneven after that, with some good books undone by a lot of unnecessary padding, but ultimately saved by a handful of amazing moments. No idea how that community - assuming it is still active - regards them now, years after everything finished, though.

They were quite good, and neatly wrapped everything up. Though obviously not written by Jordan.

Community had a bit of a revival with the television series release, I believe. Subreddit is usually best place to look for these sorts of things, unless there's a website specifically for the author, like Gene Wolfe's Ultan Library.

In the aftermath of the Great Galactic War, the Veetanho assumed control of the Mercenary Guild’s Inner Council, and with it, power over the guild’s affairs. The Goltar were marginalized, and the Veetanho did everything they could to make the galaxy forget the Goltar had ever existed.
The Goltar went quietly, pretending to sulk and accept their fate…but they never did. They worked in the shadows, amassing power and resources, always looking for the right time—and right opportunity—where they could re-emerge and strip the hated Veetanho of everything they owned.
In the depths of the Spine Nebula—a fly-over region known only for the bad luck of its inhabitants and the dangers that lurks in its fringes—the Goltar have a secret weapon. Known only as the “Infinite Flow,” it’s the source of their riches, and the crux on which their plans rest.
But when a shadowy group learns of its existence and comes to wrest control of it from the Goltar, the crew of the Midnight Sun is thrown into its defense, and they find out that they may not have known their employers quite as well as they thought they did.
As the guild wars heat up, the battle for ultimate power may well be fought in the Spine Nebula…with the Midnight Sun Free Company in the middle of it!

Listening to: When privateer Captain Catherine Blackwood is enlisted to rescue her brother from a treacherous warlord, she finds herself on her most dangerous mission yet. It's been years since Catherine Blackwood left the stodgy, repressive colony world of Avalon. Now the captain of the privateer vessel Andromeda, she is the master of her own destiny.
But Catherine soon finds herself back on Avalon after receiving a plea for help from a most unlikely source: her estranged father, esteemed Avalon Council member Augustus Blackwood. It seems Catherine's brother, the heir to the Blackwood aristocracy, has gone off in search of treasure on the failed, chaotic world of Zanzibar. But Cecil Blackwood's plans have gone very, very wrong, and he has been taken hostage and held for ransom by a fearsome local warlord.
Augustus, knowing his daughter is the only one who can be trusted to return his son safely, swallows his pride and hires Catherine to bring her brother home. Catherine takes the job - but it won't be easy. Just getting to Zanzibar proves treacherous. And once she arrives, things only get worse. If she is to save her brother, Catherine Blackwood must face down danger at every turn and uncover a mystery four million years in the making.

What happened to Liadan ? I am worried. What happened to Liadan ? I am worried. yeah seems to post somewhat intermittently but yeah seems like its been a while. Best wishes, hope she's ok! I`am ok, thanks for your concern, i really appreciate it . Unfortunately a combination of more tough and stressful work hours with minor health issues led me to exhaustion. But i`m ok now and back to reading, gaming and posting . As for my most recent readings i finished Nettle and Bone by T. Kingfisher and i`m about to start The Baltimore Boys by Joel Dicker.

So finished The Dresden Files Book 12: Changes This book is where the pace and intensity ramp up and lots of little plot things that lock stuff in for the end-run take place. I got the first 60% completed fast but then RL got in the way and had to nibble my way to the end. Next Up Book 13: Ghost Story of which I don't remember much but the first couple of chapters brought a lot back and in all honesty at least the very start of this book is not one of my favourites.
