So just finished re reading Books 5 to 7 of The Expanse, and enjoyed them more than the first time!!!!! Started reading So I was wrong I actually started and just finished reading "Storm Front" thank god because that is the first one, that's one of the only problems with the Kindle not having the actual book in front of you. I found it a bit hard to get into and to warm to Harry but the last 25% was very good. So anyway after giving up trying to find book 2 searching on Amazon's Kindle Store (it's a disaster how they list all the books and comics and stuff that doesn't even have any relevance at all) I am now starting "Fool Moon" after finding a reading order and then going back to the Kindle store to buy it.

But book 3 starts the main storyarc and the books really take off from there.

Thanks for the list Iakus, the problem was easily solved by looking online but when I search the books on Amazon Australia it throws all the comics etc. in with no way to sort them except by "Featured", "Popularity" of "Publishing date" which are all useless unless you are familiar with the series. Anyway I found a website that I have book marked that has then sorted by Novels and Comics and a recommended reading order. Thanks also for the heads up re the first three books as yeah I found the first half of the first book a bit boring, second is off to a better start. My biggest problem has been so fr (same as a lot of games) is where characters in the books don't say things that complicate for no good reason. You can put it down to a lack of maturity of the character or for other reasons but too often the situation is such an obvious one that it's one you'd always be honest in and trust the other person that it is just frustrating, well for me anyway. But as I said the second one is off to better start in particular re that so that's good.

After that, he only stays quiet about stuff that can clearly get people killed (or worse) if they learn about them. Much easier on the friendships.

I just started reading this kindle book. A clue - which I don't think is a spoiler - The most damned, disgusting, evil, malicious POS - he sells humans to aliens to dissect and experiment on, he's a murderer, slaver, sadist rapist, you name it -, is actually the shining hero of this series. I have this notion, that knowing this from early on, might help you "enjoy" it. And, as I said, I don't think it's a "spoiler". So those are the reasons I tell you. If I'm wrong about that, blame me. Everything you can feel simmering under the surface in Donaldson's Covenant series, is in full bloom here.

In any case I doubt very much if I will get the other books in the series. The 1st one was a flat out rip off. Essentially a novella but at the price of a full book then padded with all sorts of shit after wards that I could care less about. Not only that I left the end of the book not caring about a single person of the three main characters.

Pressed into service when World War II breaks out in the Pacific, the US Walker—a Great War-era destroyer—finds itself retreating from pursuing Japanese battleships. Its captain, Lieutenant Commander Matthew Patrick Reddy, desperately leads the Walker into a squall, hoping it will give them cover—only to emerge into an alternate world. A world where two species have evolved: the cat-like Lemurians and the reptilian Griks, and they are at war.
With its power and weaponry, the Walker's very existence could alter the balance of power. And for Reddy and his crew, who have the means to turn a primitive war into a genocidal Armageddon, one thing becomes clear. They must determine whose side they're on. Because whichever species they choose is the winner.

Essentially a novella but at the price of a full book then padded with all sorts of shit after wards that I could care less about. Not only that I left the end of the book not caring about a single person of the three main characters.
I would still argue it's not a spoiler. You might have misunderstood me? I'm not saying that the guy that appears to be a horrible villain, is secretly a hero. No, no. - He really is that POS! And who is the "main" character - if it seemed unclear in the first? -, becomes really clear already in the second book. So that's not much of a spoiler either. Actually there are not three main characters. Nick is just a filler. Only two, Mourn and Alistair, tied together by their crimes. It's just that in Donaldson's mind, there are worse things out there. And he seem to have a thing for self-loathing "anti-heroes". Everybody hates Alistair, including himself. I don't recognize your characterization of the book, but it was a long time since I read it. Though yea, it was just a sort of prologue. Abandoning the series seems like an okay decision. I wouldn't cheer you on, in either way. As I said, it was a long time since I read this series. But the way I remember it, I was disappointed in the lack of immersive Science Fiction atmosphere. It's more like a re-skinned fantasy or society novel. Since I've read it, I've grown older and have had some powerful life experiences, that also makes me kinda reject some of the notions Donaldson are 'exploring' with his characters. Those values would probably have me dislike the series today.

Just finished: "Oh, Grumble! He who cares for the beaten, the powerless and the downtrodden, he who lends his ears to those with silenced voices! God of those who toil tirelessly, protector of the ones that cower, watcher of the weak! Oh, Grumble, God of the Minions! As your paladin, I call upon you and ask... are you really going to take this shit?"I'm reading this, having finished the first. It's light, but IMO quite entertaining. I'm having fun.

Quite a dense read, but I'm over halfway through. I like it, but it's certainly not for everyone: a mood piece, instead of a roaring adventure. "Gormenghast, that is, the main massing of the original stone, taken by itself would have displayed a certain ponderous architectural quality were it possible to have ignored the circumfusion of those mean dwellings that swarmed like an epidemic around its outer walls."If that first sentence makes you want to run for the trees, you'll probably hate it. If it intrigues you, I recommend giving it a shot.

So finished book 2 and 3 of The Dresden Files, the books have been getting progressively better and better which is a good thing. The third one "Grave Peril" was very good. Have started Summer Knight but may have a break after this one.

Actually meant to ask you and forgot, Michael "suddenly" appears in book 3, was there a comic or something that introduces him earlier or did I just completely miss something? No, he just appeared in Book 3 (though I'd love to read the story on how they first met) But afterwards he becomes a regular member of the supporting cast, and one of Harry's closest friends.
