I thought this sequence in AotC was pretty good
Padme's final response, though, really? I mean, the guy just admitted to rage slaughtering a tribe of Sand People, and Padme's response is, "Well, its ok... you were angry." This is the aggressive-panic-button-press situation.
Hmm... maybe the racism metaphor wasn't just with respect to the droids.

Hypothetically considering the possibility that she was under the influence of a Sith -I can see the impassive response as valid And if not Sidious -then Sidious's master... we all know who... Joking aside... It is indeed very possible that Anakins' fall to the dark side most likely clouded Padme`s mental state of mind. Vader was possibiliy -even without knowing he was even doing it -mind controlling her to not get emotionally crazy... That or Papilitine was controlling them both... I think that may be the most humiliating thing for Vader...being Mind Controlled all those years by the emperor.

That's a terrible defense. The thing is, even if one accepted that somehow, say, TLJ and whichever other movie are equal in their horribleness (which I'd disagree on, I think it's possibly the worst SW movie to date, including movie 2), repeat offenders don't really get lenient treatment just because they have done the deed before. I was being flippant. But I thought it was fairly well agreed upon that the dialogue in all the SW movies, including the OT was a bit crap. Even at the time the OT was being filmed/screened you had the actors saying it was bad. Or are we going to let nostalgia gloss over that flaw also? I'm gönna let the nöstalgia glöss över it.

Even at the time the OT was being filmed/screened you had the actors saying it was bad. Or are we going to let nostalgia gloss over that flaw also? Yeah, I remember seeing the re-release of A New Hope back in the late-90s and thinking, "This is still a fun movie, but some of the dialogue is crap." I loved it when I was a kid, but I probably didn't have the critical faculties to differentiate good dialogue from bad at the time. The only particularly clever line in Episode IV might have been when Han gives up on trying to pretend to be a Stormtrooper, shoots the radio, and says, "Boring conversation anyway." Lucas is probably a better director and world-builder than he is a writer (or at least a space opera writer - I haven't seen American Graffiti or any of his other work), and I think it was Harrison Ford who said something like, "Just because George Lucas can type this doesn't mean the actors can say it." I also heard a story - and I have no idea if it's true - that when A New Hope was first made, Lucas invited a bunch of his filmmaker buddies around to see an early screening, and in the taxi on the way back, there was first this awkward silence before one of them finally said, "Oh my God, what is he thinking? A spaghetti western in space?" The consensus was that it would be a bomb, with the one dissenter, supposedly, being Spielberg, who was convinced it would be a big hit.

Ron Howard deserved better. Actually... (I liked the Chewbacca movie, but to imply that Howard is on some elite level of filmmakers or something is absurd. He's a very solid director, but a journeyman filmmaker at best) Mind you, Ron chose this project instead of turning it down, but he had to play clean up for two neophyte directors in a limited time frame, something even Spielberg would have difficulty with. Instead of evening out the critical successes and flops of his already shaky directors credits, he added another flop making it the film equivalent of Lebron James' NBA Finals W/L record. If this was Shyamalan or Kevin Smith sure but i wouldn't wish this film on Howard.

I think that may be the most humiliating thing for Vader...being Mind Controlled all those years by the emperor. I liked how the Revenge of the Sith novel addressed Anakin dealing with his own darker and more violent compunctions - that it was basically another entity within him that he had to keep in check. And then by the end he's like, "Oh shit, there was never 'another entity'."

I know trying to read too much into the politics of Star Wars is probably a mistake, but isn't she the political leader of her planet? And she's okay with her boyfriend being a mass-murderer? (Cue the usual snark about politicians and crime, I know, but she actually doesn't seem to be corrupt or ethically slippery otherwise.) In terms of character-writing, I thought the Revenge of the Sith scene where Palpatine starts to tell Anakin about the Sith while they're at that opera and the final Anakin/Obi-Wan confrontation were probably the most compelling moments of the prequel trilogy.

I think there's a documentary film available on youtube where they explain how editing saved/made Star Wars. What other directors saw in early screening was very different from the final version, much more prequel-like.

Okay, hear him out. I actually think he makes a good case for how the Last Jedi holds up well in terms of dramatic structure. He said in the comments he’s planning another video on why the film didn’t work for a lot of people.
