I quit Star Wars after they nuked the EU. That was the best thing about it, imo.
I a girl I was dating wanted to see it, so I went to see Episode VII. I thought it was basically a gender-bent remake of Episode IV, and didn't really like it at all.
The girl and I stopped dating shortly after that.

I quit Star Wars after they nuked the EU. That was the best thing about it, imo. I a girl I was dating wanted to see it, so I went to see Episode VII. Seriously, this new Star Wars crap by Disney just isn't any good.

Get this- people on the TOR boards were discussing Thrawn's apperance in Rebels and someone claimed the justification for changing his eyes was so you could tell who he was looking at.

I spent so much time with the EU that that was were my heart fell into for Star Wars. Even the original trilogy wasn't as good as the stories and universe that it grew to encompass. And I actually saw Episode VII, it was just a re-hash of Episode IV. Seriously, there was no real plot to the movie.

Heck, I was so hyped that I booked the tickets for me and 15 friends at the start of october... And I share your views on that. But for me, it didn't touch all the good that there was before. Just cause they say it's not canon anymore? Who the fuck cares, lol. They can canon my cannon, for what it's worth.

Mickey's nonsense- not impressed. I like the concept of the rule of two and how Bane implemented that, however I found the Bane novels to be a bit unsatisfactory in that they had some very convenient plot devices and things start going all hazy with the sith sorcery stuff. Shatterpoint was very interesting though and had some cool insight into Windu's way of thought and his mentality to fighting, I loved it. As for the Force Awakens, yes it seemed like a rehash of the older movies but I didn't mind it a whole lot since it was kind of a fun watch. I did get some fanfiction vibes from it but it was entertaining nevertheless and in fact I felt it was even better than parts one and two of the prequel trilogy.

When I finished watching Episode VII, I thought it's an awesome 8/10 movie. But later I realized how unoriginal it was, how the supergirl beat everyone so easily and how that Scoundrel was killed, because feminists hate that kind of character. It's a 6/10 for me now.
The only pity about the exclusion of EU is that Jedi Knight series and KOTOR series are not canon. I don't care about Star Wars books. Go read some knowledge and useful books and info instead of novels!

Star Wars, to me, is a cinematic experience. I tried one of the books a long while back... didn't do it for me. It's not a book experience, so I've never cared for that. Can't stand the prequels, love the originals, really like what they did with the new one and I'm looking forward to Rogue One.

Re: The Force Awakens...
Honestly, I think the biggest problem with it is that, while it is well-made, it has no memorable moments IMO. I once saw an interview with Steven Spielberg in which he said (more or less, this was a while ago and my memory is spotty) that they key to a good movie was to have memorable moments. The original trilogy is full of them. The Force Awakens, not so much. Not even That Death Scene made much of an impact on me. :| The whole movie just rolls into one big memory blob for me.

With sci fi and fantasy... I kinda assume everything is done on purpose??? So to me... The Force Awakens being similar to episode IV... was done on purpose... maybe to draw similarities between Luke and Rey... showing her parentage??? In-universe... some people with the force can see into the future... so there must be SOME link between the Force and time... so it might be some... cyclical event of some kind??? Something where the force has kind of... recreated similar events in a way??? its hard to explain what I mean haha... maybe some deep connection with the force is making similar things happen or something... I dont know haha to me at least I dont think theyd have similar plots by accident... either way I love The Force Awakens

sigh I guess there's always at least one. Most of them don't even try to make it work. Granted there are more than a few clinkers *cough*Crystal Star*cough*, but by and large, most everything fit together well, and without too many hiccups.
