No thanks, so far Disney's novels are comparable to the early Bantam books despite the conglomerate having the money to hire superior writers. When it could be argued that the mediocre books from Timothy Zahn's catalogue are superior to the Nu novels, we got a problem.
Could it? Using Andrew Waples' example (because I'm too lazy to think of my own) here's an excerpt from Bloodline followed by one from Heir to the Empire. I believe the writing in Claudia Gray's eclipses Zahn's work from Heir, although imo in this instance Gray won by default for not using "sort of flowing work of art" as a descriptor. Pretty hard to get a mental image from that ...

I concede that she's straight to point in her descriptions while Zahn too often gets caught up in waxing poetic, but i'll have to check out the rest of the book to make a better comparison.
"their snow-covered peaks illuminated, like the clouds, largely by reflected light from the city." - classic Zahn
Speaking of old EU (note did not read old EU or was even aware of it) did this guy pretty much give a sparknote version of it in 5 minutes and 10 seconds? I'm glad though they didn't do a resurrected Emperor. Did that piss off fans when that was canon?
Resurrected Palpatine came from nowhere and i thought it was corny at the time, like that one 'in space' episode of your typical Hanna-Barbera cartoon. It was only after the introduction of the subject of cloning in AoTC and Palpatine's talk with Anakin about eternal life that the premise of Dark Empire seemed plausible. The GN artwork is still fugly while a few characters are better left forgotten
Starkiller Base pretty much rips off the Galaxy Gun, doesn't it?
A cloned Palpatine returns, takes over the empire again and Luke joins the dark side to become his apprentice.
yyeah dont cannonize all of it obviously.
Yeah there was over a decade's worth of content across several mediums. Just pick the best stuff: Zahn, some Stackpole, some of the Old Republic stuff...
They both have about the same amount of suck at this point, I'd say. The reason why Legends is preferable is it's mostly dead. Disney will likely be pumping out the horse-shit for decades, however...

Actually it is a testement to just how brilliant Disney is being from a creative and a business standpoint that they are really recannonizing a lot of stuff and cherry picking what works, and what does not. Works creatively too. Thrawn for instance and while they haven't officially done it yet they might as well have cannonized Reven as well.

Imo it's closer to Star Forge but it's infinite production capabilities were traded in for more Pew Pew. Also how fucked would the Vong have been if the GG wasn't destroyed?

Han SOlo had an answer to that:
"What the Empire would have done was build a super-colossal Yuuzhan Vong–killing battle machine. They would have called it the Nova Colossus or the Galaxy Destructor or the Nostril of Palpatine or something equally grandiose. They would have spent billions of credits, employed thousands of contractors and subcontractors, and equipped it with the latest in death-dealing technology. And you know what would have happened? It wouldn't have worked. They'd forget to bolt down a metal plate over an access hatch leading to the main reactors, or some other mistake, and a hotshot enemy pilot would drop a bomb down there and blow the whole thing up. Now that's what the Empire would have done."

Also, What's the name of that imperial ship that had a miniature version of the DS cannon?
There were two ship based Super Laser Systems.
First you have the Eclipse, then you have the Conqueror.
The most notable was the Conqueror a IMP II class Destroyer with a miniaturized super laser.
The Eclipse was a line of Star Dreadnoughts done up for Palpatine's Reborn Armada but both ships were destroyed, one by Palpatine's own Force Storm, and the second by the Galactic Gun firing into it.

Thank you it was the Conqueror i was thinking about.

There was also the Darksaber. Essentially a Death Star superlaser with a ship built around it. Though it ever actually WORKED.
Out of curiosity, did George ever supervise any of the old eu? I know he did for Clone Wars (though thats still canon). Was he a co-author or anything like that?

I think he had input on some of the bigger book series.
