It should be noted that Luke's training takes place around six months. He wasn't there for just a day. Which is still minimal for Jedi. Normally, they're brought in for training as young children and don't even become Padawans until their teen years Depends on the era, in the EU some Padawns remained in that role until they were in their 30s. Because becoming a Knight is dependent upon the individual and not a set standard, its about personal growth and understanding, not a set criteria and a checklist.

Don’t bother arguing, he’s already called everyone who disagrees with his point of view idiots and/or trolls. Frankly, I am a little disappointed: there are very few people on the other side of the argument able to sustain a calm, rational debate. It's because they have no ground to stand on I’m not trying to troll I’m really not. The simple matter of it is I like something you don’t and neither one of us can convince the other.

It should be noted that Luke's training takes place around six months. He wasn't there for just a day. Which is still minimal for Jedi. Normally, they're brought in for training as young children and don't even become Padawans until their teen years (if Anakin is anything to go by). They remain in that role for at least a few more years before becoming Jedi. Six months may as well be just a few days. Its worth thinking about the actual experience a child would have in Jedi school. Given how strict the Late era Jedi were on mental discipline and non-attachment its reasonable to theorise that a lot of a students time was spent on learning Jedi doctrine and philosophy instead of force techniques and lightsaber practice. Furthermore, those children would still have had to learn most if not all of the stuff a non-force sensitive child would have to learn such as reading, writing, etc. Force techniques and lightsaber practice would probably have been two or three classes a day out of an entire school syllabus. They may well have spent a decade in Jedi school, but they sure as hell didn't spend a decade training in practical force techniques. If half of their education is conventional and half of the remainder is philosophy + discipline that leaves a quarter of a decade for actual practical lessons. 30 months of training squeezed into 6? That's a bit much, buuuuut: The student is an adult and thus able to train more per day than a child could. The student is the son of one of the most powerful force sensitives of that generation and appears to have inherited that power. The teachers one of the Jedi orders best teachers. There's no outside distractions. Luke being about half-trained within 6 months is still a bit of a stretch, but it isn't all that implausible.

Meh i chalk that up to her being a Skywalker. The better question is why did the sequence look so goofy and Rian not noticing this. It's up there with Bryce Dallas Howard's character in JW outrunning a tyrannosaurus in high heels.

Remember in the new canon Luke had three years to study the from Obi's journal before the battle of Hoth. Six months on Dagobah with Yoda and an unknown number of months of training after the Bespin duel and before his appearance at Jabba's palace.

But all that aside, since the actress died, wasn't it better to scrap all of this and allow her to die rather than having her die off-screen in the next chapter?... Yes, it's weird that the two living actors have dead characters and the dead actor has a living character. If it's a CGI Leia I doubt I'll even watch through Ep 9.

Hence why Leia could fly in space...? With her the issue is more that she didn't have even six months. The strangest thing about it that they could have made this sequence much less implausible even with an off-hand comment from Leia prior to this point to someone else about her training, or after it at the very least. (it is mind-boggling that no one thought to ask about this clearly unnatural feat after all) But all that aside, since the actress died, wasn't it better to scrap all of this and allow her to die rather than having her die off-screen in the next chapter?... I'm honestly trying to see how episode 9 could deal with the "legacy" of episode 8 without adding even more cringe, but so far I'm at a loss. I suppose it would have been a lame anticlimactic end to the character. (We may disagree about the merit of Luke’s storyline, but at least his end was climatic and he still has the potential to appear as a force ghost). Leia at least has a chance to go out in a more fitting way either in the upcoming animated series or other content.

That would require either high-quality CGI rendition of the actress, or someone else to play the role. Neither are ideal. CGI Tarkin didn't work for me. There was something off about it and I doubt a CGI Leia would be any better, especially since she'd have a bigger role.
