I heard it as male first time too, but some time later I realized that it's filtered so much that VA's gender is indistinguishable.

Personally my view regarding SAM is:
All Pathfinders would have a SAM or something similar. I imagine there would be backup Pathfinders incase something happened to the original, Bro/SisRyder to Alec for example.
If we take the above into consideration (again just my thoughts). SAM would be tied to the Pathfinder via say implants as has previously been suggested. Now what if we are there when something happens to Alec or if we take it from the trailer we see where Ryder gets spaced, something happens to us.
Alec could either be injured/dying and tell SAM to transfer to Ryder, or does it so that SAM could try save/help us and our implants activate.
SAM: Welcome Back, You are the Pathfinder now.

I heard it as male first time too, but some time later I realized that it's filtered so much that VA's gender is indistinguishable. Probably why they've gone for a gender neutral name like SAM too, even if it is just an acronym. I really don't know what to think of SAM currently. Like someone else mentioned here i'm kind of against the idea of having an AI/VI with you at all times. For one it reminds me far too much of Halo which gave me a few concerns (especially when the 4K tech demo really looked like the inside of a Halo Installation...) and it just seemed totally pointless. Cortana made sense for Master Chief because she was generally the only entity you interact with so had a key role in the story, but in ME we have 2 companions that we choose to travel around with, so what use do we really have for an SAM? Couldn't it's lines have simply been said by one of our companions?

If another character was performing the function of the AI/VI obviously the lines wouldn't be the same, but the end result would. Besides if either Drax or Vetra were on the Nexus where Sloane Kelly served they would know of her.

I see SAM more like Jarvis, just like us ironman have companions on the field, but with Jarvis he have the advantage in that he can access info faster. It may be the same with SAM and Ryder.

SAM confirmed as Simmulated Adaptive Matrix and an AI. Was kinda suprised that he is indeed a AI.

Like his parental advisory item or something? 2) If it can modify the responses of my body... what will happen if it's hacked by the enemy? Or an antagonist? Or an insider?

Ryder: "Oh...well, that's awkward."

Yeah, thank you Vall, for mentioning what I had on mind.
If he sees, feels and... basically everything the same as Ryder...
Then... you and your LI can never get a moment of just you two... ...eeeh... Y'know, that implant is not something I'd go for, personally, but sure, it was a god damn requirement...
(Bonus creepy points if you romance another from the original Pathfinder team. Then it's always a literal threesome with one feeling everything the other two... uh... WEIRD!)

Alec became interested in artificial intelligence as a means of human advancement. S.A.M (Simulated Adaptive Matrix) Pos: Implant AI Station: Hyperion The first Pathfinder neural implants were created by Dr. Ellen Ryder, a pioneer in human biotic implant design. While biotic implants bolster and focus electrical signals along the nervous system, Pathfinder implants go a step further by connecting to not only the nervous system, but circulation, endocrine function and exteroceptive senses. Synced with artificial intelligence the implants reveal their full potential. The implant is a two-way connection, giving full insight into the host's physical and mental state. While allowing it to generate and alter electrical signals along my host's neural pathway that the body processes as it's own. In short, when we bang, SAM is banging too lol. The last line in the character assessment uses "my" .... ? But i didn't really get who is SAM connected to-, all of Hyperion?, all of the Tempest?, all the squad mates?, Pathfinders only? The trailer depicts 5 people, Alec + Scott + Sara + Liam + Cora? Wonder if he will eventually get it's own body.

Not our entire team Err, gonna have to totally disagree with you there. The briefing states 'all members of the pathfinder team receive implants' and it also describes Alec, Scott, Sara, Liam and Cora as the pathfinder team prior to that. Beyond that the visual shows 5 icons linking up to the Ark, which would be the 5 characters it has just described. If it were referring to each individual pathfinder there would have been 4 icons, rather than 5.

And here we are with another concept that makes no sense, at least at the state of our present knowledge. Could someone please enlighten me how we can share real time feedbacks with an AI that resides in another ship than the Tempest? Remember: 1) We don’t have access to communication buoys. 2) We don’t have quantic communication. AND YET we can share real time feedback with SAM even if we are light years apart? Like, really? Fucking space magic… that is uproarious.
