I love the trailer from the Game Awards, but have one concern. The scanner reminds me of Eagle Vision/Detective Mode/Witcher Sense. And I hope it isn't, because it's getting old. Quantum Break had it too and probably I forget a few other big games.

I can see what you mean, common gameplay gimmic. From a narrative point of view it makes a lot of sense. You'll probably be the first to see a lot of stuff so better scan that stuff for the science-brain-people-guys to science on. Maybe there will be more to it however? Like you can scan and see if something has dank meme potential? I dunno, I should get back to work.

I liked it. Hopefully it will give as much information as I am hoping, brings back good memories of Metroid Prime days exploring these alien landscapes.

Going to alien worlds you need to have your tricorder ready to scan everything. I just don't want it to turn into Batman: Arkham Asylum where you can have it on all the time and "cheat." Or, like the planet scan-a-thon in ME2. Scanning for minerals was such a timesink.

I have to admit that I'm slightly concerned about this myself.
I hope the objects that we can scan are telegraphed properly. I don't want to walk around with a scanner in every room.

I think the metroid prime like scanner is a good add, personally. Im always intested to see more info about anything, species, plants, weapons etc.

I am a bit tired of the mechanic, admittedly. However, I feel like it makes more sense in this game given the context; you're basically here to explore and find new things. Utilizing that scanner from your omni-tool to make sense of the things you discover seems appropriate.
