Obviously, you can't completely solo In Hushed Whispers because Dorian is there, which is just fine. My questions are concerning the quest order and cutscenes.
The cutscenes have several references to your other party members. The first first is in the hall in Redcliffe where the steward initially refuses entry. The second is in the Future where you are tasked with finding these people, whereupon you learn specific valuable information (assassination of Celene, demon army, etc) regarding the plot from these rescued followers, which is mentioned later on.
What happens in these cutscenes if you don't have any other party members? I can imagine that the first dialogue with the steward is skipped, which we've seen before with other such scenes. What about the quest in the Future? Do you just not get the quest? Does the quest fail to complete? Am I able to proceed? Do you learn the information in any other way, perhaps from Leliana?
The reason I ask is because cutscenes can get wonky if you don't have expected people there. For instance, during In Your Heart Shall Burn when you fire the trebuchet into the mountains, the camera goes to Varric and shows his initial celebratory reaction. If Varric is not in the party, the camera still goes there and you just see an empty space; this is noticeable because he's shorter than the other followers, necessitating specific camera placement.

Got curious and wanted to test this for myself, had a save nearby and time to burn, but the game didn't trust me and forced Cassandra and Varric into the party D: Even tried it two times and made sure to click the "remove all" button a few times before starting the mission. But no. The Inquisitor could not go into obvious trap alone. D: They were probably worried about his glorious hair. (Varric and Cass also got sucked into the time loop as well, so did no further testing than the dungeons.) Also...excuse me game. I have a half naked body guard who's well versed in Tevinter politics and spy craft, and you send me out with these guys? Shame. Did another test where I only took the body guard. Looked promising at first, but then spotted Varric hiding behind the Inquisitors elbow. D: Sneaky dwarves are sneaky. (Same with Sera, so the game was not being considerate about class types in the party.)

I only did CotJ solo, so never ran into this.

I would imagine that, unlike CotJ, there are too many places where companions are required for the purposes of dialogue/action. It is not just the information you get in the dungeons but there is later on when the companions offer to go out and hold off the demon army while Dorian activates the amulet. May be they tested it and discovered it had too great a possibility for bugging out so they included default companions if you tried to go alone.
Oddly enough the first time I played through CotJ, the game bugged out on me after the Fade sequence and I was left to do the rest solo, despite having taken Cassandra, Solas and Varric with me. Funny how these things turn out.

^ Hah I totally forgot about the grand finale with the demons. However, I think in that scene Leliana is the only important one, and she is not optional, so I'd think it would turn out the same as the wonky In Your Heart Shall Burn cutscene.
I always duo IYHSB with just Dorian, and that seems to work out well enough.
Thanks for the replies everyone!

I have nothing to add to this topic other than to say that this scene cracks me up because I never have Varric in the party and yet you can clearly see the Inquisitor move slightly as he/she gets slapped on the back by an invisible Varric during that cutscene- complete with the Inquisitor briefly smiling and looking at said invisible Varric.
