Do the indies on Steam you play compete in scope or technical sophistication with a game like DAI or MEA? Let's be realistic here.
That opens up another question. Do we actually need or even want that scope and technical sophistication?
Well if scope or technical sophistication are crutches instead of tools in a creative toolbox, then not so much. But other than that? Yes, scope and technical sophistication will be needed in order to tell stories that require it. At some point we'll run out of tricks that can creatively overcome the lack of those. As a graphic artist, I can create many wonderful things in MS Paint, but I can do so much more (and faster) in Photoshop.
Ask yourself if Pixar movies would have the same impact if they didn't use top notch animation, aside from talented crew. Or whether LotR trilogy would be as epic and well-remembered if they didn't use every trick in the book and superb team of actors and producers? Or whether Dragon Age or Mass Effect would be so epic without all the talented VO and cinematics? Or whether adventuring in Skyrim would be the same without its sweeping vistas and excellent music? They could, technically, be done without those things - but they wouldn't be the same.

“The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
Great find, SofaJockey . Everyone who enjoys gaming should read this, and take it to heart. It would be great if respect and decency were simply common traits. They're not, of course; but maybe these worlds will penetrate and find purchase in a few readers' minds.
And yet when the quality of the game is mixed or below expectations of their audience that completely goes out the window. ME3 really killed my interest with the industry.
Are you seriously saying two wrongs make a right? If one dev screws up or gets greedy, with no benefit of the doubt for good intentions gone bad, it's then open season on the entire industry for endless harassment and shit giving?
And never mind the industry, how about a fan who just wants to read what some dev thinks is a cool new technique? Why are such fans acceptable collateral damage in a blitzkrieg of shit giving?
No adult gives af about your disappointment over some game.
Inquisitor: Is that innuendo? Sera: No, it's at the front!
Recent AAA games tend to focus on being visually appealing. People expect them to have stunning graphic effects, high framerates, good (please not that discussion again) animations etc., which seems to take most of the ressources. In the end the games certainly look shiny, but too often have little else to offer. Indie developers with their comparatively limited budget are simply unable to produce games on the latest technical standard, so they take more care with things where they still can make a difference, like storytelling, innovative gameplay and whatever niches the big companies don't occupy. The real question is, what aspects important to you in a game and which are not. Of course you can want it all at once, I mean, who doesn't, but then you are in for some disappointment. Which leads us back to the "toxic gamer culture", or at least what I strongly suspect to be one cause of it. tl;dr get your priorities straight, results in less butthurt.

I'm very happy with some indie purchases. And it's exactly because of gameplay. Recent highlights were Rimworld and Heat Signature.
Justin @im_versatyle About the devices timer, could you put the running out of time sound cue on for the whole duration? It would instill urgency to the player.
Fernando Melo DiscoBabaloo agree, but not at this point it would req a game patch

Could someone ask the MP people if they'll add some actual story to the MP blog for the final few character updates and missions they are releasing? They used to do it and it was the most interesting part of MP for me, to see how the story is progressing. But since the batarians were released they've kept it to the bare minimum.

Probably whoever was doing it is now working somewhere else on some other project? You gotta figure that MEA staff is down to a skeleton crew.

Don't expect to see anything more. Game support is dead apart from those streams.
