I'm a bit confused.
If I understand correctly, there are two siblings in the game. Are they actual siblings, i.e. if you choose one, the other is an NPC? Or is there just one Ryder and the other isn't there?
Also, assuming that they are actual brother and sister - is it possible we'll have a chance to switch between them midgame? Go to one mission with one and then switch to the other in another mission?
Because that would be SO COOL!

It is my understanding that your initial choice locks you into one character (though you can change gender with New Game+)

If I understood it correct, we chose one Ryder to play as. The other Ryder is still in the world but is not a member of the team. And as far as I know we do not switch between them. Edit:

From my understanding they are seperate characters, if you pick male ryder, female ryder becomes your sister npc and vice versa, the npc sibling is not a squad mate so won't be joining in battle, due to some story reason, iirc.

I actually am against being forced to play as more than 1 character.
For example, GTA V is a great game, but what REALLY frustrated me while playing it was that I HAD to play as 3 characters instead of just as 1. This really hampered my immersion into the game and my ability to attach myself to my controlled character.
Just when I started to feel in the shoes of the character I was controlling, I was forced to complete other missions associated with another character playing as that other character. I dunno, somehow I really didn't like it, others may love it... but I just feel plot-dizzy when I jump to other characters in plot driven games.

In the trilogy you played as either male or female, it's just the individual personal interactions & romances that changed. Same thing here, only this time the male & female versions are siblings. That's the only thing that changes. We'll probably get fleeting mentions of our "other half" but I don't expect anything big like fighting alongside them or anything.

Well I'm not saying you'd HAVE to change character for some quests. I'm saying it would be cool if it was possible, since both characters would be voiced and are optional to begin with

As I wrote in the other thread: The sibling you don't play as seams to suffer some form of hypersleep mishap in the begging of the game, disabling them for most/all of the game. That's the reason you become the new Pathfinder and your sibling is not a possible squad mate.

Oh no Always hated that part of DA2 It's from a German article which apparently got the info from the devs during a presentation... the sibling will still be a part off the story - and customizable at character creating - though.

I would actually enjoy having a family member as a party member at some point in the game. Although, we all know what Bioware does to family members.....

I'm not necessarily opposed to playing a barely-outta-the-teens PC, but I already see Bioware placing ridiculous amounts of power and authority into our hands (I'm having "for the Inquisition" flashbacks, ugh). I really want them to make us earn respect, with the occasional "shut up, kid, the adults are talking" moment. Sadly I'm already expecting Mass Effect: The 100 given the most recent trailer. That's gonna f*ck with my immersion.

To be fair, there is supposed to be some "learning the ropes" in the main story ark/character progression, but it could just involve the normal leveling up/learning new skills process... one of the other older, mentor like figure on the crew would still be nice, though.

I actually hated the games where you played 2 different characters like Halo 5, Halo 2 and another one. From what I have understood is that - lets say for example you choose the female Ryder, the brother for whatever reason doesn't wakeup/get out of cryosleep right away. Though eventually will come out of crysleep and will not be a squadmember and will be on the ship that you can talk to

I have a feeling that role has been given to PeeBee...the designated info dump companion.

I worry how Bio is going to establish our family connection to be more than this is your dad/sibling therefore you care about them. If it's just an info dump, no one's gonna care and it's gonna fail as an idea. If the game starts with us coming out of cryo and our sibling ends up stuck in cryo, then we effectively have no connection to him/her, so why will anyone care when the inevitable "you need to save your brother/sister moment" comes our way.

If Ryder is to replace him, then he has a good teacher - his/her Dad, who can transfer his training/knowledge to his child. I think that Ryder siblings were also properly prepared for this trip even before they left Milky Way, but having a Dad/mentor surely would make it more credible for Ryder to become new capable pathfinder.

Not sure that's what they meant with "hypersleep mishap"... I did sound to me like the sibling will be in the story, just in some form disabled, that could mean ie. paralyzed. So she/he could still have a supporting role (Oracle, anyone?). I doubt they would let us customize the father and the sibling only to drop them from the story completely at the start... if it really IS customization, and not the "changes along the lines of the main character" we had in DA2, of course. Then again... it's highly unlikely that father and sibling will be "disabled", that would be really lazy writing.

I never have understood the point of putting age as an indicator of status. If I'm right and they wrong it don't matter if they are a krogan from the rachni war or a 900 year asari.
