I've been enjoying the thread where maplesyrup discusses playing Mass Effect multiplayer anew. Alongside all the 'LOLbronze' and 'git gud' comments, I wonder how hard it is to actually take a Level 1 character out, with over 1,000 hours MP experience, but now with only an Avenger I, and 1 medi-gel, and no gear? So here goes, if you have access to a fallow account (which I do) and want to share your 'LOLbronze' stories, go ahead

I did the same thing recently. Played about 5 games of bronze, a few silvers and then headed to gold. The power sets of the human characters allow you to be effective on gold with low level weapons. I've unlocked a few URs but the biggest draw back is not having a lot of the piercing mods on weapons. You do have to play a little more conservatively with onlyou having 2 gels

You do have to play a little more conservatively with onlyou having 2 gels This, so much this. I was able to compensate for everything else, even clutch a couple of waves on gold, except for this. Reload-cancel reviving yourself hurts a lot #LOLEviscerator. Being with two OPS packs and two gels makes it vital to know when to use it and when to wait for a revive. Also, fuck that Russian guy who got himself killed alongside everybody in the team except me. Letting me clutch first 4 waves White Haz/Collectors with my Tsol+Tempest. On wave 5 telling me I kill them way tooooooo slow and quitting the match after that. The biggest drawback must be other people in the lobby, 15 N7 rank withmaxed manifest with no skills to match, brute forcing their score with no idea what they are doing... One important thing is to spot them before starting a game since consumables are so precious but otherwise it was fun, mostly with newbies. There is a certain charm in it. Played, enjoyed myself and quit at the moment when intensive credit farming was needed to bring my manifest on next level. To conclude: Human vanilla characters kick ass. Turians are awesome. Turian soldier is extra awesome. Mantis is a really good weapon. Salarian infiltrator is really hard to unlock. This might not be the best multiplayer game out there, but for me is the most charming one and I wouldn't trade it for any other game.

I actually did do this.....but when I did, I started on a whole other platform ( PS3 ) ..it was fun owning Gold with really low weapons and stuff. My only mistake was playing ME3MP on PS3....cuz of all the hard freezes, it destroyed my brand new playstation 3..... 237 total hours of gameplay across 2 games ( ME3MP & The Last of Us) and now all it is good for is a door-stop.

I did this a little bit ago when switching to ps3 Ran a bunch of silvers then went to gold, buying 20k packs to max out uncommons(which I just did today! wooo time for URs) kept me at reasonable equipment levels. I rediscovered how good the human engineer is. Only two missiles made swarmer nuking more costly, but I still couldn't resist. The gear thing was definitely annoying, especially not having the appropriate weapon amps. At least I got geth scanner pretty early. Still don't have any grenade+ gear though. The katana was probably my favourite of the starting weapons, I like the mantis a lot too but didn't get around to using it much. I pretty quickly unlocked the mattock, saber, acolyte, and suppressor, so weapons weren't a big deal. Still waiting for that claymore...

It depends on the folks you are playing with. If everyone is inexperienced and lowbie, lowbies can be both challenging and fun. Normally you can tell easily enough folks who start on new account. They know the spawns, don't get lost and score rather high. It's really hard to replicate the authentic new person experience once you get some savvy. but I think we all will end up there in just a few months with Andromeda 😀

A fascinating experience, took my Level 1 female Engineer out for 5 'lolbronze' missions. Do you remember the starter pack? At least i had a couple of medi-gel... So here's the thing, I'm really squishy, a single hit from anything wipes my shield, so I'm hanging back slightly behind tougher teammates, but 1,000 hours of experience cannot be denied, so I'm positioned where I need to be, not getting myself killed unnecessarily (once in 5 missions) and am contributing somewhat. Net result: 5 solid missions with extractions, and firmly bottoming out the score board Take-aways from all this? It's fun, as I'm levelling basic items first, I bought 16 Recruit Packs. More excitement than I would normally get from a dozen Premium Spectre Packs (with one random ultra-rare weapon, on average). And having a new character really makes me look forward to the same experience in MEAMP. It's surprised me quite how many multi-thousand N7 players are happily sauntering around 'lolbronze'. With a few consumables in the stash and my weapon up to an Avenger III, I'm about ready to hit Silver...

I did this on Xbox one not so long ago. I usually play on PS3. It was annoying to start all over from scratch but not as hard as I'd thought it would be. Perhaps that's because I had the help of Gecko and Organic Toaster though... idk lol I'm currently taking a little bit of break from both platforms though, I'm soooo bored.

I remember doing this when I switched to ps3. I played a couple of bronze games to get accustomed to the different controls vs xbox but everything you're saying is on the money. Having only 2 gels & 2 ops packs made playing gold (once I finally jumped) fun but I couldn't play nearly as aggressive as I'm used to. Not to mention, since I hadn't promoted in years, playing anything but level 20 was tough too.

I've got 4 PC accounts and 1 XBox account. My starting-from-scratch experience is that once kits are up to level 20, the really limiting factors are lack of piercing mods, and low amounts of in-game consumables available. Not having great gear/guns hurts some, but like people are saying, using powers effectively plus knowing how the game works helps make up for things.

Starting out now? Sheesh, it would blow cock. You have maybe 3x as many Ultra Rares (N7 guns used to be gifted via Commendation Pack only), much more equipment and amps plus ultra rare characters. I feel bad most newbies these days have to start with all that to unlock. I maxed my manifest originally maybe less than 2 months out from the last DLC and I've played MP since the beta demo (though I only played SP up until June 2012).

Decided I wanted to play some ME3MP before Andromeda, so just started yesterday again on PC. I had maxed it on PS3, but few of my old friends play that, and one had just started on PC too. First impressions is it's a total faff compared to PS3. - buy game: easy enough. Go to Origin store, give moneies, click download ME3... - DL speed terrible, 7MB/s max - start? Nope, you need origin too... - install EA virus - Oh. No controller support - Google furiously for 30 mins - download dodgy-hack mod-loader - install controller hack... - Nope you need Java - download Java - install - install Controller Support mod - start ME3MP - still no controller support; you need a Xbox controller, not DS4 - rummage thru dusty attic looking for 360 - restart ME3MP, controller! - faff about in Origin adding mate to friends list. Eventually using mobile phone WhatsApp to coordinate things - no comms - google. try stuff - no comms - use Origin comms, but no in-game comms options, other players cant hear me Oh well, played some games, and it's still fun. Having full widescreen 1080p is nice, and 60fps locked makes it very smooth. Collectors don't auto-crash your game! :-o Started with human adept, as you don't need guns. Had the fun of PUGs, some are terrible as usual, a few good ones. Was outscoring a "best of the best" until they started hitting spawns with rockets Then I swapped to a NovaGuard, on Bronze, and got kicked twice... Looked for Wood Difficulty, but seems like it never got patch in, but found some nice PUGs that carried me, and got me a few levels. Overall the setup is an awful experience, and reminded me why I don't PC game. However once stable it's very nice, and enjoyable not being able to be so lazy with level 10 URs and loads of consumables.

I maxed my manifest originally maybe less than 2 months out from the last DLC and I've played MP since the beta demo (though I only played SP up until June 2012). Oh, it's not bad at all. Compared to MMOs, you get flooded with rewards in ME3MP. The amounts of currency are generous enough to maintain the supply of the appropriate gear and stash for the eventual advancement (if desired) to the next one. About the only thing that is really bad is the RNG on the mods drops. Everything else comes at a good pace, keeping the whole "It's Christmas!" feel alive in Bronze/Silver at least. The progression does keep up fairly well with what you need in a tier. Basically, I think I played for around 250 or so bronze games to max out blue weapons and build up to move to Silver, and less than 100 Silver games till the silver weapons all get maxed out. While it's not a fast pace for any of you, guys, restarting it, it works well for someone who is completely new to it & without much gaming talent. Building up and growing within each tier is a part of the game. If anyone could just hop into Platinum in a week, the game would have been poorly designed. The tiers and gear collection does contribute to keeping things interesting. In my not so humble, ME3MP offers a solid experience to an actual newcomer, and is, like, awesome. If anything, I find it strange that the numbers indicate a fairly low retention rate of the players, as the 10% percentile in achievements is less than 100,000 players, and getting there does not take a particular commitment.

I remember a TGI nuking swarmers between waves and thinking it had to be a vet starting a fresh account. I got a good chuckle out of that! On topic, I remember starting an alt account a long time ago and being ecstatic that my first rare was a claymore. I was a bit baffled when I brought a claymore human soldier into silver and two of the people tried to kick me for "not using a good loadout" or something like that. I guess it just goes to show how differently new players understand the game. Piercing mods are definitely a pain to get now thanks to all of the permanent gear in the uncommon pool. I'm really surprised they didn't bring back premium veteran packs.

After 2.5 hours total play, moving onto 'lolsilver' now With no pressure to promote, there is also no pressure to build my N7 into the thousands (120 will do). My starting-from-scratch experience is that ... the really limiting factors are lack of piercing mods, and low amounts of in-game consumables available. Agreed. This, and the terrible ammo capacity pretty much every gun has at lower levels means you're always doing some serious ammo-box-humping. Oh, and grenade kits without Grenade Capacity (or at least ShockTrooper/Warfighter).

^ May be less likely now, with the player base dwindling people might be more tolerant in the interest of keeping/getting a full lobby, but if you play on Gold/Plat with low challenge points and low level weapons, you will get some kick votes eventually. Getting Lone Wolf or other banners (i.e. that require gold/plat waves) seems to help mitigate this a bit.
