I don't expect the movie to ever be made.
That said, I'm not one of those people who feel a bad piece of entertainment based on an established IP (whether it be a video game, movie, book or otherwise) ruins the entire series. Nor am I one of those people who would be upset if the movie was based on the first Mass Effect and the Shepard didn't 100% fit with my idea of Shepard. So I am hoping that the movie does get made at some point.
If it does get made, I doubt it'll do the series justice. Most studios don't want to put a lot of money behind a video game movie because of their historically poor performance. Which will probably mean they will be light on script, and heavy on CGI, which is exactly why video game movies fail. And so the cycle continues.

Ugh. Deception is actually the only ME book I have. Completely put me off, which is sad considering how much I enjoyed all of the DA books. That's terrible. That's precisely the one you did not want to ever find on the bookshelf. The other books really are pretty good. All were written by Drew Karpyshyn. He's a capable writer, and no one knows Mass Effect better. They gave good depth to the setting, while still being completely optional reading. I've always been most annoyed by Deception on account of never getting a satisfying conclusion to the Anderson-Kahlee-Leng plot. I know how things end for each of them, of course, but a properly written novel would've been nice.

Pretty much. One thing that stuck in my mind is how they (Anderson?) talk about the kid being "an L2 with a chance of becoming an L3"... while he'd be an L3 implanted at the WORST, and might even have L5 implants depending on when exactly those were introduced (Shepard is an L3, opposed to Kaidan's L2 in ME1, and in ME2 Cerberus upgrades Shep with L5 implants if biotic).
Guy didn't give a single flying fuck about the lore, he made up his own explanations for stuff. Of course, with Karpyshyn writing the previous ones, I'd imagine he tried to be as immaculate with the lore as I did with my own writing.

I quit reading a few pages into it. I couldn't get past the freighter with the Tantalus Drive Core. I knew at that point this guy had no idea WTF. I had heard how Gillian was no longer autistic, that what's his name suddenly became straight (Hendel?), and of the epic cereal-killer moment. I was not aware of the biotic implant confusion. I bet Dietz leaves this novel off of his résumé.

Haha! Stealth freighter! I didn't even catch that. Or maybe I don't remember it because of the sheer terror. It's golden though.

We'll see how the Assassin's Creed movie pans out. If it turns out good, the ME movie project might gain some steam. Just an update: saw the Assassin's Creed movie today and it is bad as it gets.

If they get James Gunn to do the Mass Effect movie, I dont care which time or character they use. Just take my money and do it already!!! segmentnext.com/2017/01/11/guardians-galaxy-director-mass-effect/I just learned this yesterday but immediatly made me think - Maybe thats why I always felt some kind of Omega Vibe during the Knowhere scene in GotG (the gigantic celestial head that is being mined and where the Collector is).

This has happened in the past.
Movie studios got the rights to both Metroid and Castlevania in the late 90's early 2000's to make movies based on them but ended up sitting on them until the rights expired.
