I asked this some time ago on the original boards but then I stopped playing for a year and now I've forgotten and I can't find the original responses I think I've got a handle on it but I wanted to check before I spent too much money upgrading them to rank X. My own character is a melee-specced infiltrator using shotgun and pistol but I still need to know what other weapons to upgrade for my companions. I already have a Venom Shotgun, N7 Typhoon Assault Rifle and M11 Suppressor at rank X. Most others weapons are at rank V or lower currently. I'm thinking Geth Plasma SMG for my companions that use SMG and N7 Valiant for companions who use sniper rifles. Does that sound about right? Are there different weapons that might be better depending on the type of enemy? Thanks!

I already have a Venom Shotgun, N7 Typhoon Assault Rifle and M11 Suppressor at rank X. Most others weapons are at rank V or lower currently. These are three of the best guns you can get in SP, so they would be fine. Suppressor and Venom especially. I would probably just go something like Saber. Possibly Wraith or Claymore for fun though. Best squaddie SMG is probably Hurricane or Bloodpack Punisher if you have either of those. Suppressor is pretty good on squadmates though, so that is also a consideration. Javelin is the best SR for sniper squadmates. I personally don't think enemy type matters a great deal for weapons in this game, as the powerful weapons are pretty good against everything. Suppressor is nominally best against humanoids / things with the normal type headshot but base damage is so high for the SP version it is ok against large targets with boss headshot modifiers. Ammo might be a problem though so probably best to take some sort of bullet hose with it for those things (Hurricane, Punisher, etc).

Thanks for that!
What would you recommend as an assault rifle for a power-specialist like Kaiden? I think the Typhoon and Saber are a bit heavy.

Weapon weight doesn't matter for squadmate cooldowns, so you can use whatever weapon on him you like and still get the same cooldown. Typhoon is good on squadmates. Not real impressed with Saber for them though (don't think they fire it enough... I mentioned it above thinking about Shepard really, my mistake). The Revenant isn't horrible either, and they are decent with Harrier and Lancer too.

Just don't use the Scorpion Heavy Pistol on the mission "Priority: Mars", specifically to kill Dr. Eva. Since the Scorpion's damage is delayed due the properties of the weapon, it will fail to stop her final attack, and she will reach and kill Shepard before the rounds detonate.
Edit: Ooops, sorry for necro'ing. Didn't pay attention to the date.
