Remind me: How does Ashley develop as a character in ME3? She's getting drunk some more, hates Cerberus, hates the geth and is still talking about her family. Not sure that is much development to what we already know about her

Remind me: How does Ashley develop as a character in ME3? Barbie-doll makeover cracks aside... You can get some different insights into Ashley if you do some very specific things in ME3. For example, if you recruit Tali before doing the Turian Bomb mission and then take the two of them on the Turian Bomb mission... then go down to talk with Tali afterwards, you overhear very different dialogue from Ashley. The romance scene during Priority: Earth (i.e. talking in London) does yield an Ashley who is much "softer" and perhaps more vulnerable than she is otherwise. If you romanced Ashley in ME1 and Miranda in ME2 and then continue to romance Miranda in ME3 (and then just withhold the Alliance data from her such that she dies while being romanced by Shepard), Ashley does come across as being somewhat sympathetic regarding Shepard's loss. I admit that it's still not great and Bioware could have (and should have) done a lot more to flesh out Ashley's character in ME3.

Is there any sense that she has overcome her cynicism about alien races? That is, does it feel like she has progressed as a person since ME1? It's been a while since I had her in ME3, and I can't remember what she was like. People say that she barely interacts with anyone on the Normandy, and that BioWare actually "ruined" her character. I'm not sure about any of this.

I'm not sure about any of this. I guess it's a better overall and she considers Tali a little sister (she only mentions that though if Tali dies AFAIK), but generally she still comes across like she didn't that progress much. I also was kinda disappointed by all her scenes. For example you get a nice talk with Kaidan once he joins the Normandy, Ash doesn't get any scene here. After Gellix, Kaidan has a great scene about Cerberus, in which you can see that he's willing to give things a different perspective. Kaidan interacts with James and Engineer Adams, while Ash only interacts with Vega off-screen and you only see the aftermath of her being a drunken mess on the floor. I think she gets a scene with Tali though over the comm (but then Kaidan has at least one with Liara as well). Not sure if that's the scene UpUpAway mentioned, but I guess so. Ash is also more hateful of the geth in general, while Kaidan appreciates the quarian and geth support if you broker peace. He comes across as more open-minded than Ash to me. I'm not sure if this is helping you, maybe you should wait for someone who is a big Ash fan (I'm not, but I don't hate her ). But for me, Kaidan is far superior than her in both ME1 and 3. Even in ME2 or should both be killed at the Citadel coup, Kaidan comes across slightly less aggressive, but maybe that's just my imagination and biased opinion

I'm not sure about any of this. Yes. The complaints most frequently heard about Ashley in ME3 is that they "let her hair down" in the literal sense. She just doesn't look like a marine anymore; and for a number of people, that was a good part of the appeal of her character. She is also very much short changed in the dialogue department in ME3, especially when compared directly with Kaidan (who serves the same role on the ship as Ashley). I don't know if it was that her VA wasn't as available or what happened, but it is a disappointing. However, depending on the order in which the player decides to do things, some additional autodialogue (as mentioned in my previous post) does give some pretty "nice" insights into her character. She is certainly not the racist that she first comes across as being in ME1.

For me it depends on the Shepard I bring through, if I'm planning romance with one of them, it's a non decision.
Currently replaying the trilogy now in anticipation for Andromeda, Kaidan is going to be the one dying on Virmire, though, Ashley will join him shortly as she will be gunned down on the citadel.

Does she have more conversations on the Citadel than Kaidan? It would be very strange if she has less dialogue overall than him.

Ashley gets 1 or 2 additional convo/meet-ups, depending on relationship, while Kaidan gets 1. Both get 1 meet-up in Citadel DLC, Ashley's at the bar and Kaidan's in the apt.
Edited out bad info. See below for better explanation.

Do you get the second convo in a non-romance? What second conversation and for who? The second Ashley meet-up on the Citadel, after the one about her sister. I don't normally keep her alive unless she's my ME1 romance, so I don't recall having the second meet up with a femShep or non-romance male Shep.

Depends... if you are generally nice to her, show up for all hospital visits, and investigate the situation with her sister during the second hospital visit (when she's still in bed), she'll invite you to the memorial wall with her sister. If you've been mean to her, though, she won't be there... so you won't even get that conversation, let along the second one on the Presidium. If you show up at the memorial wall and talk to her when she's on the floor drunk, then she will set up the meeting on the Presidium regardless of whether or not you've romanced her in the past. It's that meeting that gives you the choice then to either start a new romance with her in ME3 or not. If you're already committed to another LI when you go to that meeting, it will just be a chat between friends. Thinking about it some more... perhaps the actually # of lines of dialogue between her and Kaidan is about the same. For some reason though, the conversations with Kaidan being on the ship and having him moving about the ship seem to leave a more lasting impression that the additional meetup on the Citadel with Ashley does.

Not just that, but Ashley only complains about Cerberus or the geth every time you talk to her on the Normandy (except for the drunk scene which....don't get me started). You might get one quick line about the previous mission, then it's back to: "I hate Cerberus. Cerberus sucks. Grrrr." Every. Single. Time. Its gets really old really fast. And her poetry recitation skills are terrible.

Yeah, Ash has the scene with her sister on the Citadel and the talk about her father in the same spot where Kaidan's dinner scene is. Kaidan has a scene after first coming to the Normandy (where he stares out at space) and one after the Ex-Cerberus scientists. Ash additionally has the drunk scene, so they're equal in scenes, but whether the content is equally great depends on one's own taste. Ash's dialogues are family-related and well, being drunk. Kaidan talks about different things and I personally think this variety is much better. Pretty sure though that Kaidan has more interaction with the crew. He spends time with Adams, plays poker with Vega and talks to people on the comm. I know of Liara for sure. Then there's a scene with Kaidan talking to either Garrus or James (if Garrus is dead) on the comm. This happens after Tuchanka: Bomb, so the same spot as Tali and Ash (which means the Turian Platoon/Bomb mission has to be delayed). He also has a tiny conversation with Shepard after the geth server mission (Ash will have the drunk scene here).

I believe I've only saved Kaidan once in all the playthroughs I've ever done and I missed Ash enough to never leave her behind again. lol
What sucks though is that the Ashley that shows up in ME2 and ME3 isn't the same Ashley from ME1. She's an almost completely different character to the point that I'm not sure that she's not a doppleganger sent by the reapers/cerberus to try to undermine Shepard's mission. =/
The Ash I knew would never run around in a skintight catsuit unless it was the bedroom (she's a hellcat there haha), but ESPECIALLY not for going on military missions. I also don't think she'd be passing out drunk on the Normandy during a reaper war either. SMH
I just can't finish ME1 without her so, she lives.
