Bah, I'm at a point where I couldn't care less. Just give me a fun game to play and enough abilities to tinker around with unique builds and I'm happy and a few good characters and I'm happy. Anything else is just a bonus. Hopefully they will fix the animations, but if they don't and the game is still fun I'm fine with that.

You shouldn't be so quick to settle for lesser quality...that's the type of attitude that gives rise to substandard games. Once a company allows that mindset to pervade, it ends up effecting all the aspects...including gameplay. Push for excellence in all facets so that when they fall short (inevitably and often they do) you end up with merely a good game. If you're willing to accept merely good or just average and fall short...well, you get the idea.

I'm glad to see there are a bunch of you that still have faith in Bioware. I'm not one of them. They are a shell of their former self and they have shown me nothing that proves there is absolutely nothing to be concerned with. For me, DAI was a total disappointment and if they head that same direction, from what I see so far they are, this game will be as well.
I hope I'm wrong and it turns out to be a fantastic game. I'm sure it will be good on consoles, but I don't own a console and don't want to. I'm more concerned about how it will be on PC.

I do care for excellency, I want gameplay excellency, I want the game to feel polished and responding to my inputs, I want the skills to be unique and interesting, this is the stuff that makes me replay a game over and over and over, this is why I love Overwatch or Starcraft 2 or Unreal Tournament 99, this is why ME3 is probably my most replayed in Shepard's trilogy. This is why I'm very positive about the gameplay trailer as I fully ignored the animations, I love that the game gets more fast paced in terms of combat, this is why I'm worried about pee shooter Revenant more than some wierd smile from SisRyder. Probably this is an opinion not shared by most BSN but I don't care.

It's funny how they mentioned the eyes because that's exactly what I was looking at the first time. Completely inexpressive in the entire scene. She arrives, talks and steals the gun with the same expression which is very unnatural.
I remember how they said ages ago how much of an improvement in facial expression they achieved compared to previous games, and that was not the case in this particular video. However, that's definitely not the final product and it's a thing they'll surely at least want to fix/improve.

The smile she had after taking the gun reminded me of an obscure suit wearing muppet with really exaggerated corners to his mouth. I couldn't find a picture of him, so here's one of Ernie with a similar expression. Because the eyes/brows on a muppet also don't move, it's difficult to know what this expression means. Is it a smile or a grimace?

At least this guy had a plausible explanation for Hamburglar's racoon paint strip. And I still don't buy it. I had no problems with eyebrowless asari in trilogy. There is much more problems with SisRyder besides dead eyebrows. Parts which do move, move like plasticine.

You know, I did find the facial animations annoying because they were simply not right. The smile from FemRyder, after taking the weapon from the Turian is unnatural. Odd, that I found myself concentrating about it rather than focusing on the game. Maybe my expectations were a tad high.

But they could also have bitten off more than they could chew Now days, this shouldn't be acceptable with a Triple A company. It was one thing when they didn't use facial mocap and did all the anims by hand. With mocap there is simply no excuse. You would think.

Mocapping facial expression (the subtle ones in particular) may be beyond their tech abilities or the tech does not exist. I estimate you need a shitload of face sensors to properly capture the expressions, including eye brow movements. If you recall the "behind the scenes" Bio video, the artists was manually animating PeeBee's face. Given we are about two months away before the game goes gold, I say Bio has an uphill battle. I'm calling facial animations is a weak spot in this game.

I'm calling facial animations is a weak spot in this game. There was a lot of mapping of facial expressions in the World of Warcraft movie (I saw a BTS on it) and the facial proportions of the orcs were certainly pretty far from their real faces so I guess the tech exists now. At least in the movie world, if not the gaming world!

Had you seen Rogue One already? I have only one word. Tarkin. It took me long enough to realize what the hell I'm looking at. And that Warcraft movie too. So - the tech is already there, apparently. CGI had drastically improved over the couple of years. I know there's a distance between the prerender and real-time, but that's not much of excuse to show something like Sara from the trailer as part of the promotion. Not in the end of 2016.

The problem is they already said they cannot do mo cap because of the many different faces the Ryders can have.

What bothers me from the disarming scene is not the faces but the Krogan guard who doesn't shoot Ryder when she gets the gun from the Turian and points it to his boss. He doesn't even tell her to drop it. It's like he knows Ryder's future actions or lack thereof. Have you read the script too, Krogan? Hey what's that on the floor, is that the script?
Plinkett references aside, I expect characters' actions to make sense in the stories I enjoy and that Krogan made no sense.
