I had almost given up on Metallica but then after listening to Death Magnetic in its entirety, it's actually a pretty good album. Hopefully they stay on track and keep the thrash coming like the old days. I really don't get why I've seen so many people hating that album specifically. Sure, it's not as good as what they put out during their peak but it's such a huge step in the right direction after the colossal pile of shit that was St. Anger, and a decent album just in general. I agree. Death Magnetic is solid. I think people still don't like the production at least that's what I hear more commonly from people. It doesn't sound bad at all although the snare probably could have been turned down just a tad. Greg Fidelman engineered it and he's producing their new one. I expect it to sound similar to Death Magnetic and also Slayer's World Painted Blood and High On Fire's Snakes For the Divine since he produced those as well. |

Personally, I don't dislike it, it's decent enough, as you say, way better then St. Anger. It's just, well, Metallica back in the day were a hell of a lot better than just "decent enough". Which leads me to the question, why would I want to listen to Death Magnetic when I could listen to the similar in style but vastly superior Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning? Seriously though, I thought Death Magnetic sounded like a Metallica cover band trying to make an album of original songs. Its okay, but I listened to it once, and never felt the need to listen again, maybe a second time through I will have a different opinion.

I think Metallica has always tried to go for that "raw garage room" sound. Personally I think the production is ok but I'd like to hear what they sound like with someone like Andy Sneap as a producer ( he's done Testament, Exodus, Megadeth, Kreator) Give the album another listen. It's still enjoyable. |

Bobaflex is pretty awesome and definitely deserves more attention than they've gotten. Bury is my number one, but they have quite a few killer tracks. And they're interesting. As in, they're from the Mothman town (but my town is a sort of home away from home), and Marty and Shaun are actual McCoys (as in the Hatfields and McCoys). |

This thread exists and no mention of old Megadeth? For shame! I've never owned any Megadeth albums until recently. For years I was never really interested in them mainly due to Dave Mustaine's voice (it was very off putting for some reason) He's definitely an amazing guitarist and songwriter but it just never really clicked with me. Never thought the music was terrible or anything. When Endgame was released that was when I started digging their music but l still never got around to buying it. Then I heard the new album Dystopia. Sounded awesome so I ordered those two albums and a few of the older ones (Peace Sells..., Rust In Peace, Countdown to Extinction) and after listening to most of them from start to finish, I like it. Different from some of the other thrash bands (probably a lot more guitar wanking since there is plenty of that on all their records) I'm basically playing catch up.  |

I'd link Disciple by Slayer, since it's one of my favorite songs, but I don't want to piss anyone off. I can say it's a great song to chase off fundies with. I'll do it then. Funny story: years ago I was driving to work and on my route I would drive by this church. There were tons of people outside one day and I had my windows down while listening to Slayer (which Disciple happened to be playing) I cranked the volume and stopped at the stop sign for a good whole several seconds while the line "GOD HATES US ALL" was blasting from my car. Lots of turned heads and lots of laughter from me.  |
