Branson Cadash went and recruited the Templars. I was very much on the fence about whether to go for them or the mages, mostly because the quest to get the mages is WAY more inspired than the Templar one. But last time I really enjoyed the camaraderie you got to build with Dorian, and since I've never paid much attention to Cole I thought maybe I'd make more of an effort to use the quest to engage with him the same way.
Aaaand... for the first three quarters I was pretty sure I'd end up reloading and going for the mages instead. Champions of the Just is... just... so clumsy and boring and uninteresting, and even when you're locked into a 'battle within the mind' with a demon the visions you're shown are mostly garbage and childish and there's no reason why they would faze an actually adult Inquisition agent. Some of them did strike a little bit of a chord, but since the sequence is almost completely non-interactive (which is another huge missed opportunity among many that Bioware would have recognized and prioritized in a heartbeat if they'd still been in the business of writing actual RPGs by then) it all kind of falls flat.
And Cole... I love characters that speak in metaphors and strangely insightful gibberish, but for that to work their dialogue needs to be very well-written, and/or spoken in short sentences with meaningful emphasis. Cole seems to spout mostly nonsense that means absolutely nothing, and when he does say something genuinely interesting it's packed into fairly long and fast sentences that go aaaaaall over the place, so it's hard to catch and appreciate properly, at least in his introduction when you keep asking him to explain stuff.
That said, after getting the awkward "You're another spirit in an Envy demon's mind prison, why the fuck should I trust you?" phase out of the way and seeing for himself that Cole does in fact just want to help, I think Branson feels a little bit compelled to enable that spark of helpfulness and altruism the same way Cassandra and some of the others have gradually coaxed it out of him.
Working in the underground, he probably has more experience working with dysfunctional and abnormal people than any of my other Inquisitors to date, and would have learned to recognize that people like that can still be helpful, and maybe even dependable, if the loyalty underneath their oddities is true and they're slotted into the right place and surrounded by the right people to bring out their best. So while he can barely make heads or tails of what comes out of Cole's and Sera's mouths, being mostly a casual, straight-talking, no-nonsense badass himself, I figure that he maybe feels a bit protective of them and their desire to contribute to the crisis even though nobody in the rigid human world really knows what to do with them...
So that's what I'm going to try to lean into, that he's kinda-sorta taken them under his wing. Also chose to recruit the Templars as partners rather than enslave them, even though Branson's first thought was to go "Yeah, you're mine now.".
Partly because the PR of having a public alliance with the Templar Order is going to heavily boost the Inquisition's credibility in Thedas compared to dissolving the order and absorbing its members, partly because I really like to see the Templars as an organization getting to do their actual job of protecting the world from dangerous magic and one of the only actual clear-cut instances of that in the series is by helping suppress the Breach, and partly because of those Envy visions warning Branson where things could go if the Inquisition gets too powerful and hungry.
So overall I got more out of the quest than I thought I would, but it's still mostly terrible compared to In Hushed Whispers.
Looking forward to seeing where things go next. Unlike my other Inquisitors who have mostly just felt very weird and noncommital about the "Herald of Andraste" thing, Branson decided that the only way a dwarf being an Andrestian religious icon was gonna work to the Inquisition's benefit would be if he went all-in and played it up as much as possible in public. So things will get interesting when all those claims of being Chosen by the Prophet start actually being put to the test.

I will admit I never fully understood the love people had for the tactics in Dragon Age: Origins. The majority of time unless it was to use a potion they never worked for me even if I was copying them from an online guide.

I used this guide at first until I got the hang of how tactics worked in DAO, and it served me pretty well for awhile. Now I use it as a base to start with and build from there. I discovered that I enjoyed the strategy aspect of it, and that, once I built my companions right, I rarely had to worry about micromanaging them again. But hey, different strokes for different folks ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯ I think it would be nice if DA4 had custom tactics as an option, so you could play it that way if you wanted to, or opt for the AI-style tactics of Inquisition instead if that's your preference. Something you could turn off or on, maybe. Having choices would be great!

I've done it several times now, but In Your Heart Shall Burn never fails to get me excited about the game, even though I know what comes next. It's such an awesome quest. I enjoy playing it every time! Probably my favorite main quest alongside What Pride Had Wrought. Here Lies The Abyss is annoying, though. I'm not sure why, but it feels like such a slog each time I play through it. (I always do it before WEWH because it makes more narrative sense to me that way). I tend to rush through Crestwood and the Western Approach just to get it over with. Finally done with that and moving on. I was hoping to avoid the Exalted Plains this time, just dip in and out for Solas' personal mission, but I have to gather materials there for the Rift Mage specialization.

I'm trying (keyword being trying) to make a fun new build for a new Warden (rogue) I kind of want to try a dual-wield + archery build, but having a hard time trying to decide on the talents to grab to keep things balanced for specializations I want to grab duelist and shadow...but again, not sure how to balance the talents
so if anyone has ever tried this before and has some tips, that'd be nice...otherwise, just going to cobble some things together and hope they work

TBH unless I'm doing the tougher fights such a sthe Deep Roads levels in Origins I find I don't really use the tactics much.

so if anyone has ever tried this before and has some tips, that'd be nice...otherwise, just going to cobble some things together and hope they work Duelist is good for both archer and dual-wield build. If you don't have Leliana in the party, I would suggest Bard over Shadow for the song bonuses. Both archery and dual-wield rogue depends mostly on cunning (so cap strength at 18-20 and dex at 30, dump rest of points into cunning). The main problem of your build idea is that archery is very depending on talents. In the rogue tree: you can ignore the master talents unless you have spare points. Get Lethality, coup de grace and combat maneuver ASAP. dual-wield: you want dual sweep and momentum (beware of haste bug) + the dual training line passives. archery: melee archer tree line (first talent is a priority and try to get master archer early too) and pinning shot tree should have priority + rapid shot toggle. If you have Awakening, you want the Accuracy tree line too.

I think I might switch Leliana and Zevran depending on combat situations, other party members will likely be Alistair (as my tank) and Wynne (healer) so for Strength just level 'till I have 16 and then use the fade essences to get to 20?
I figured out you have a max of 39 talent points to assign (which includes the initial 3 at character creation and the 2 after the Joining and 2 after the Landsmeet) and that's without any talent tomes you can buy (during the official campaign you can buy 3 of them, and another during Witch Hunt) so I can give or take assign 42 talent points in total.
I also plan on chugging the weird darkspawn potion by Avernus
I've done a semi-build of this before with a Ranger, but she only had some sparingly dual-wield talents since I only grabbed the wolf summon (and proceeded to never use it after that) from the Ranger tree

Heh, funny you should say that, dwarf noble is the only origin I've yet to finish a game with
But I always feel like dwarf nobles are more meant to be warriors and the casteless ones are more fit as rogues...though my casteless dwarf was a hammer flailing warrior then again I do feel like a dwarf noble might lend well to the whole "fallen from grace" thing, whilst still trying to do the right thing I do wonder...what would a dwarf noble do with Loghain? I've yet to do a world state where the bloke makes it past the downward facing sword, because I hate Alistair's hissy fit I mean, I did have him in that scenario once with a human mage who didn't romance anyone but that playthrough never made it into Inquisition
Might actually make it interesting - provided we get racial selection again in DA4- to have all the races be present in my canon world (I mean, Hawke's the default human and my Quizzy is an elf, so might make the DA4 protagonist a Qunari provided we get that chance)

Play mostly as melee and switch to the archer for fat enemies. CUN-rogue is very good, in particular DW-melee but it requires many arrangements, investment and things to have/buy/talents. -- My CUN-rogue stabbed the High Dragon in no time which was a surprise for me. But to make that happen had to do certain things - time consuming to say the least. -- Use Duelist (more defense) + Bard (attack, crit). Archer: - take two modes: defensive for dire situations (almost no enemy can hit you) and Aim (the main to use) - the only talent: Arrow of Slaying for those fat enemies - scattershot might be useful as well - the rest archery talents: only not to get bored DW: - your usual DW-rogue-style to play Dump everything into DEX. With high DEX your character can actually hit enemies and has higer defense. Plus DW-line- talents depends on DEX as well with all those checks. --- Again: CUN-rogue (melee or ranged) is very good and I enjoyed my PT with such build. But in your case, since we share thoughts and ideas here, I would take DEX, duelist + bard, and use Archery AoS for fat enemies.

Back in December, this thread mentioned DAI on sale. Since my computer met the requirements to run the game, I downloaded. It's only now that I was able to play the game in the last week. Ups speed a bit and packs the party into a TARDIS bag so they don't accidently chase the halla off into the wrong direction.

I felt the need to play DAO again, it`s been a year since i`ve last played it, so i`ve decided to recreate my favorite warden, Liadan Cousland. And it feels so good to be playing this game again . She survived Howe`s surprise atack, was recruited for the Grey Wardens, explored Ostagar and the Korcari Wilds with the most junior member of the wardens and two other recruits, met two witches of the Wilds and she`s currently waiting to go through the Joining Ritual. And it was only today that i finished this playthrough (real life has been really demanding this year...). Major plot decisions: saved the Circle of Magi; saved Redcliffe and got rid of Connor`s demon with the help of the Circle; broke the werewolf curse; joined forces with Caridin and destroyed the Anvil; helped Harrowmont gain the dwarven throne; gained the Landsmeet approval; Alistair executed Loghain and was declared king, Morrigan performed the Dark Ritual with Alistair and Liadan Cousland defeated the Archdemon and lived to tell the tale (and she also married Alistair six months later).

So...last year I made a mod addressing some mismatching npc equipment
Today I was reviewing my mod and decided to remake it, or at least see if I missed anything (which I did, 'cause let's face it...there's a lot of npc's )
I came across Ser Landry (the guy in Denerim who accuses you of being a traitor and whatnot ) and noticed his shield doesn't have a heraldry. I was wondering if it was ever specified if he was from a certain area for which I could gave him a heraldry on his shield. Though given that he seems an avid Loghain supporter, I might just give him a Gwaren one.
I also noticed that many npc's in the Dwarven Noble origin use Darkspawn weapons, I was like "wait...why?" so I'm changing those too

So long story short, I don't find it making sense that the dwarves would use darkspawn weapons just because they're laying around...wouldn't that insult the smith caste? DAO codex mentions Shrieks using their own blood for poison, yeah. Do you mean Bhelen's mercenaries? I can vividly rememeber the leader having a pair of DS swords, which are pretty ugly by even by DS standards. I'd say it probably depends on the dwarf. Warrior caste or nobles wouldn't use DS stuff I guess, but a bunch of expendable dusters hired for three coppers and pointed toward the enemy...
