I obviously haven't seens yours, but at least in regards of male characters, a couple presets are better then most CC characters from the trilogy I've seen. I'm pretty confident I can make a better looking character compared to the trilogy. It doesn't justify the lack of options though. I didn't play around as much with male CC in ME, but purely presets aren't as good to me as what I came up myself in trilogy. Maybe after moving features bit around etc, but although I have always found ME's CC limited you could still do quite well with it. This is my only male Shepard I had and I think he's better than ME:A's presets (excuse the bad quality pic though, PS3 doesn't have screenshot system..): And I'd say all my ladies look better too since there isn't quite combo of all facial features I'd like more than theirs that I got to decide myself He does look good, although I still think some presets look better. It might be subjective.

A post-patch launch is nice. but what good does that do for people like me who were all excited to start playing your game next week? why should we waste time and create a new character, only to have to restart all over when/if they release a more robust CC who-knows-when down the road? this should have all been resolved pre-launch. seriously, didn't anyone notice this during testing/development? didn't anyone point this out? I know. I've waited 5 years and now I have to wait longer because they've droped the ball with CC. We can play MP or just start game with default for first playtrough.

The character creator takes the cake... I'll just decide to laugh about the absurdity that is MEA to me at this point.
I haven't seen an uglier CC in ten years. It's making ME1 look good. How come they went from the excellent CC of DAI (except for the hair) to THIS?!?

I almost get the feeling that the design is about protecting us from ourselves. I always end up having trouble picking face components that work well with each other. (Probably because I'm borderline face blind.) I'll probably end up with a usable result in ME:A much more reliably than I do in better CCs. I've never been one of those "bioware is streamlining their games for casual players" types but I kinda don't see this argument. So what if someone picks features that don't fit well together? Why would you limit options for everyone just because one small part of the playerbase is unskilled with the tools? You wouldn't expect them to remove the Insanity difficulty just because some people prefer playing on easy. If you're face blind, you could always pick a preset and just start the game with that. Removing options for players who enjoy them and use them just doesn't make sense.

Once again, you have an insane definitiok of truth. Call it a fib or a white lie if you want, but the two CCs are as dissimilar as an appetizer and dessert. Sure they may both be food and eaten within a certain time frame, but one just makes you crave more food and the other is satisfying in and of itself. actually it's more like comparing different cooks of steak. Nope. It's a night and day difference. It's comparing a character creator to a preset picker with hair & make-up options.

Apart from the unfortunate hair situation, I thought the Inquisition CC was the best Bioware had ever done. I won't lie, it was hard to figure out at first, but once you got used to it, you could make some great characters that actually look like real people. The last one is my attempt at making Eva Green. In ME:A, you get to look like Caucasian #2 with different hair and clown make-up. What's amazing is, BEFORE I scrolled down, I thought "oh wow, I love that one, it totally looks like Eva Green!" That's how awesome the DAI CC was. I didn't even need to see the text to know who that was modeled after. All Inquisitors look the same, my fluffy nerd ass. I'm just uncomfortable calling a studio, that i trust, liars without proof. Not when I don't work for them nor am i in the industry. It may be insane to you but i call it common human decency. If you can provide proof they are lying I'll be willing to give it a fair hearing. Though we seem to have very different opinions in other areas, I'm actually right with you on that part. Though I understand some people are very passionate right now, this is... complicated. As much as it sucks, and as adamant as I am about wanting more options, it's entirely possible that at one time they did port over the DAI CC. But then with testing options, maybe they saw a lot of problems with facial animations; the kind of things that could happen in DAI if you made the wrong facial structure. Since there's no way to edit your character after you start the game, no Black Emporium, they may have gone waaaaaaaaaaaaay overboard on trying desperately to make it impossible for eyes and teeth to clip through the wrong things. Just been overzealous about making it all work. So lack of communication between teams and other issues may have caused a thing that was once true to no longer be true. Doesn't mean I'm happy, nor that I accept this and will cease to ask for what I want--but I'm not going to call anyone an outright liar. Life is often more complex than that. In talking with the devs on Twitter, I'm convinced they're trying and they want us satisfied.

(Probably because I'm borderline face blind.) I'll probably end up with a usable result in ME:A much more reliably than I do in better CCs. Same with the power wheel/pause to aim. It's like they want everyone to play it as a fast-paced shooter, and are afraid that people will make the "wrong" decision and play it differently if given the option. In the end, it just makes for a lower quality product. I mean, who cares if the face a player creates doesn't line up perfectly with their design for Alec Ryder? They could keep the facial structure presets, like they've always had, use that to pick Alec's model, let the player do whatever mad face-breaking mojo they want to their own character a la DAI, and call it close enough.

I'm also confused as to why one preset face has super hot-pink lips. Shouldn't everyone be neutral? I mean, sure we can change it, but it's almost a turn off from attempting to use it in the first place because what if that colour affects the lipstick shade?

Ah, clarification: I meant have a preset for Alec for each PC preset, and let people "do whatever mad face-breaking mojo they want" to their own character, not to Alec. We're saying the same thing, I just worded it clumsily.

Removing options for players who enjoy them and use them just doesn't make sense. They might think that limiting options will lead to higher aggregate satisfaction. Remember, the part of the playerbase which is really invested in doing good work with the CC is also small. Forum chatter is a lousy measure of the tastes of the playerbase as a whole because boards like this self-select for high engagement. That's why Bio runs formal testing. The difficulty level metaphor is pretty good, but in a sense a robust CC like DAI's has only two levels; casual and insanity. And the cost structures of the various options don't map onto each other well.

I agree. And maybe don't go comically overboard with the facial animations in the first place... more is not always better. I'd take a stunning custom face that doesn't move all that much (modded Bethesda games) over whatever the hell happened in MEA. ME2 looked the best imo. Remember how they ditched some face options in ME3 for new facial animations? Really odd choice too like how my Shepard suddenly didn't have purple eyes anymore?? And the eyes looked super dead. The whole change was so unnecessary and resulted in Shepard looking way different in some cases without really improving the animations much at all. Then DAI came along and while the faces weren't as stiff anymore, some expressions looked worse than Mass Effect. To me it feels like Bioware's facial animations are getting worse instead of better with every game. The dead ME3 eyes are back. ME2 eyes looked good. Hell, DAI faces looked way better than they do now. The MEA faces look like they have no shaders in the skin textures at all. It's so odd...

In the end, it just makes for a lower quality product. I had already forgotten that I can't play it anymore like I used to with constant combat pausing :/ It just feels like they're trying to control everything and don't offer choices anymore. You have to use a preset character or default and you can't even play renegade anymore because the choices are literally sassy "A" and serious "A". I want MY character and MY decisions. If I wanted to play an ugly idiot who constantly behaves like a psychopath and is reckless, I could do it in the OT. But here I have my little young explorer without any personal connection through customization and choice-making. ATM my hypetrain is going backwards and after the announcement to release a CC patch I basically have the choice of playing something everyone else has or waiting weeks, getting spoilered probably, and hoping the patch will add more than 1 slider.

Has anyone seen a video of someone who used the blonde/caucasian face preset that also showed Alec's face? I'm wondering if that's the preset we need to use if we want Alec to look like the default from the promos or if he's locked to the default twins.

I don't think they did. They expecially stated there'll be differences because it'll be based on the same type of face customization the trilogy and DAO/DA2 had, instead of the one used in DAI. They did at least imply there'll be tons of options, which is untrue. I remember a tweet, from Aaryn I think it was, saying that it will be similar to Inquisition, and that they weren't trying to reinvent the wheel. I'll have to go look for it. Edit: Here you go: The only response to that: Edit: But seriously how was their reaction to make a crappier CC after the love DAI's CC got? (Most issues I saw was with the abomination hair and those caveman eyebrows)

I love mucking about in the CC as much as the next person, I am a little disappointed but I just can't get too worked up about this. There are changes I'd like to see certainly, unlock all skin tones for all presets and allow all hair across all presets/genders, but mostly I am fine with it. I think with those changes there would be enough variation to get the racial look desired and to create multiple characters for multiple play throughs without repeating yourself.
What I think I'm getting from a lot of the complaints is 'everyones characters are going to look like mine', which given this is single player and not an MMO seems sort of irrelevant. As long as you can create the look you want, why does it matter that a gamer down the street has the same looking Ryder, it literally has no impact on your play through at all.

I too would like Alec to remain default... he's the only decent looking human in the videos! My experience with the generated siblings and uncle in DA2 were not great. My Carver looked about ten years older than Hawke. So it wasn't just that Bethany looked worse but Carver was also breaking the canon age immersion by not looking like the younger sibling. At least we can customize the sibling to avoid this issue. That's cool! Seeing those presets I might actually go default Scott. That would be a first for me.

Has anyone seen a video of someone who used the blonde/caucasian face preset that also showed Alec's face? I'm wondering if that's the preset we need to use if we want Alec to look like the default from the promos or if he's locked to the default twins. The video I linked a few pages back did...wait... here. Awesome, thanks! That's disappointing tho I wish he wasn't exclusive to the defaults.
