Just on the Character Creator, with all the negative feedback do you think Bioware will update it with a patch? Would it be hard to implement? Honestly, I doubt it. I could be wrong. The memory of many old threads on old BSN expressing displeasure of the hairstyles in DA:I is fresh in my mind. I'm pretty certain posts pretty much saying "Dear Bioware I will give all the money if you let me get more hair" were prevalent. Maybe I'm just a pessimist. A pessmist who wonders why I can't fix my Ryder's fricken overbite...

OK. Spent some time in the CC. My thoughts: The CC is more limited in scope than I realized. The lack of mouth/nose/eye shapes is obviously the biggest blow to customization. I felt limited in hair colors since we cannot change eyebrow colors at all. If a hairstyle is too high on the forehead, there is not much to be done to close the gap. The eyebrows and eyes can only go up so far. The ears can't be adjusted at all. I do not think it's possible to modify the CC in a way that we want because once I started playing the game, I could see that the animations were better with fixed features. Yes, there were derpy moments, but I think that applies to all of the presets and the default Sara. There are also some nice moments, too. Anyway, I ended up going with preset #5. Despite the lack of customization (apart from makeup and hair), she really does look like a real person and blends in with the NPCs around her. A few non-spoiler screenshots from the game: You did a really good job! She's got a very distinct look that's very different from the preset. Your Ryder gives me a little hope we might be able to make a few decent characters out of the CC. Speaking of has anyone managed to make something decent out of female preset 3 yet (the blonde caucasian one)? I'm really interested to see if someone was able to not make her look like a soccer mom turned emotionless serial killer.

I'm going to be the unpopular opinion and say that IMO I rather like the CC in Andromeda, both compared to ME1/2/3 and DAI. Why? I'm a person who's bad with CC. I tend to take defaults and make small tweaks to them. One of the most horribly daunting things about DAI was the CC because I'm just not that good at making a face. Honestly, any game with a lot of facial options just results in me making incredibly minor tweaks to presets to try and tip-toe my way into my ideal character. So for once NOT having to deal with a mess of sliders is reassuring to me that I won't spend a zillion hours pushing sliders a half-centimeter to the left or right and agonizing over which turned out better. Not that I don't understand the plight of others with regards to the CC, but it's just a relief to me. My only real gripes are: 1) You can't really do fair skin on the presets that you think would allow it because of the skin-tones (Default Scott/Sara seem to be the palest skin tones available) 2) No ability to modify Defaults. Honestly I really like Scott's look, I just wish I could remove the facial stubble. 3) Hair color. I wanted to do a strawberry blonde/auburn look to hair (like myself) but making a redhead seems difficult without doing hair-dye red. Or maybe I just suck at the color wheel business. But why one - good pre-sets, should exclude another - ability to modify them?! You like what you see - use it, someone who wants more individuality would get it too, bit no! Let's make expensive face-scans without tasting if they can be later modified, and as a fix slap some clown colors as customization options, then lie to gamers about CC complexity - stupid gamers should be thankful they have some options at all. I should not be that angry - it's not the first or even second time they lied to our faces without a hint of apology, but this time they took away the part of the game I truly cared about. I feel as if in MP I would be allowed to use only 2 weapons with rhetoric "but others are too difficult to play with".

I feel like female preset #1 will be used tons, it already has. Since I was going to make Asian character anyways that's pretty much what I'll be using as well so Mandy will look like tons of other characters, but at least she won't look awful. Also I'm pretty much forced to pick #3 for male Ryder. I guess I can make it work. I'm not happy with CC at all and I'd like to be, CC's are major feature for me and I have bought game before based on CC (Saint Row), but I can make it work. BTW did anyone post here yet video about how Alec Ryder's face works? Abilitydrain did video about it: So basically it's completely based on what preset we pick. I'm the same, i bought saints row just for the cc and it was fun. When i like my custom character everything follows and i enjoy the game.

They basically tied Alec to presets, and if you go too far (eh ) they won't really match. Though from AD's video it seems Alec is closer in appearance to Scott's presets then Sara's.

But if it is EITHER Inquisition or THIS CC, I chose THIS CC.

Dad is definitely just tied to the preset, because I have the same Alec and I used the same female preset and default Scott as well. I was a bit surprised as well to see him. It's hilarious - in a 'I want to cry' way - when you realise they limited us this much and still don't get the families right. They should just have let us customise all three really, problem solved. I really really hate the CC now that I've gone through it. Twice because for some reason my Ryder's mouth ended up much higher than it seemed and it looked awful. The second time it still looked higher up but I gave up at that point. (snipped) I got that Alec too, and I was already having trouble reconciling pasty white default Scott with my very tan Ryder... who I'm mostly okay with other than her mouth being 90% higher and narrower, and her chin 50% shorter than they looked in the CC. Alec didn't get the memo that we went with "palest Hispanic skin tone". I'm going to have to go back and try again I think, either try making a decent custom Scott or trying one of the Caucasian preset Saras. I really REALLY wish we could at least adjust eye size/width. I could work with everything else. ...okay and maybe the eyebrows. I'm officially on blackout, but I had to come and check out other people's Ryders. See what presets they used that have results I like.

This is the FIRST game with CC (and I've seen a lot, trust me) where I am avoiding topics with characters presentation. Still, already spotted twice future look of my Raider - same to the last detail (since you can not change those details) even if hair color is different. Character Chooser instead of Character Creator hurts

So after fiddling with CC for about 90 I think I can conclude it with one word - DisappointmentResizing, moving up and down and adjusting the height of nose, mouth, eyes and brows is just not the same as switching between different ones. I don't really like the eyes and mouth of my character, what can I do? Well nothing apart from choosing another preset which then has an ugly faceshape or feature. Anybody else having problems making a nice blue for the eyes? They always have too much purple or turquoise in them, regardless of what I choose. Anyway I did my best and will have to live with it. If anybody wants to have a look at my creation, here it is June Ryder

I'm so sad about the CC. I was so excited for this game but I don't see myself playing it without being able to make the character I love. I don't understand this step backwards.

Character Chooser instead of Character Creator hurts :( I am used to it from SWTOR, & I don't like the Inquisition CC. My ideal would be better presets with ME2/3-DA2 and fine-textured hair (some of it were) with better/brighter color palette. But what I see is close enough & yeah, I think I will walk away from the creator with the most appealing character to me than in any previous game. What other people do in the privacy of their game is of no concern to me. :) I guess, if you really want creating neat characters with gazillion of sliders you can DL something like Revelation On-line, it has more options than Inquisition & it's free.

The main problem, for me, is that you can clearly see the resemblance with any Ryder based on that preset. They all look like siblings or cousins.

I watched a gameplay video last night, and I saw a minor NPC dude who looks waaaay better than all the preset males, or at least the Caucasian ones. Crappy picture, I know, but it's the only good one I could get from that video. Anyway, why isn't he a preset? Or that MP girl. Their faces are in the game already, and I assume they've been altered in the CC to some degree, just not made available to us. Maybe a quick fix until we get that supposed patch would be to just make more presets available in the CC. Yeah, it wouldn't solve the lack of facial feature choices, but it would help.

I've made one character so far and I have to say this CC is a vast improvement over the one in DA:I. Sadly I forgot that Origin, for some unexplainable reason, still doesn't allow to take screenshots... so I didn't. I will force load the game through Steam next time I make a character, that should allow me to take screenshots. (edit: this doesn't seem to work though I wonder why, never had problems loading non steam games through steam before) Anyway, some things I noticed/liked: 1) The ears are fixed in size and position. Excellent decision. It's impossible to have your hair clip through the ears now, which was damn near unavoidable in DA:I unless you went for a short haircut, or positioned the ears in such a way that your inquisitor was highly likely to have a chromosomal defect. Sure, a better fix to this problem would've been to put ridiculous amounts of time, money and effort into making more realistic hair, but ultimately I think this was the better solution, because more time could be spend on things that actually matter for gameplay and story. 2) Numerical values for the colour of your makeup. This makes it much easier to get a nearly identical colour on the different make up zones. Excellent decision. 3) You can't really change the shape of the eyes, nose and lips. They are different among the different presets though, so I don't think this is gonna be too much of a problem. Still would've liked the option. 4) Crazy futuristic make up. Absolutely adore it. But most importantly, I made a great looking character on my first try in less than 30 minutes. Can't wait to see what I make once I actually get the ins and outs.

As a very (and I mean VERY) pale man with long hair, I'm disappointed with CC in Mass Effect (and later in Dragon Age) since 2007. Oh, well, I'm glad I got over it ten years ago. Other than CC, I have no complaints about Andromeda so far. But those hairstyles, ugh...

Could someone out there with early access pretty please show screenshots of all (or at least female) presets with their lightest (and darkest, even though the CC does favour darker tones, it would be interesting to see just how dark some can be made) skin tone options? Or, despite my dislike of videos, if anyone knows of a video that shows them, link it? Edit: Okay, I've seen a few now: preset #1, preset #2 (and #9), preset #3, preset #8, and preset #9, and only #3 comes anywhere close to having pale skin with what could be considered caucasian features...but its facial features are terrible. Not every white woman has half-asleep/stoned eyes, thin wide lips, aquiline nose and bad skin. Bioware plz.

Wish we could get all skin tones for all presets. I've got a Ryder I'm happy with when it comes to looks, but her skin is to dark.

We really have to call it what it is. This isn't a character creator. It's a race chooser. Different hairstyles and clown makeup are "a bonus". I hate to be "that guy" but this has social justice written all over it. It's more about being inclusive than being good.

The cc must really be improved, more settings. More brighter skin tones because I can not create a single char than is brighter than the standard Ryder. And best to bring all presets from the multi-player to the singleplayer.

So as a very light skinned Asian, I'm very disappointed with the lack of lighter skin tones. Bioware, this is creating some...unfortunate and insidious dialogue across forums, Reddit, tumblr and Twitter about you...

We really have to call it what it is. This isn't a character creator. It's a race chooser. Different hairstyles and clown makeup are "a bonus". I hate to be "that guy" but this has social justice written all over it. It's more about being inclusive than being good. The previous games' CC were terrible if you wanted to create anything other than a Caucasian Shepard- the fact they've actually done something about that is excellent. It's not a one or the other situation, they could have made improvements for creating POC and made a great CC ..but they didn't. See the real problem is not that they were "more about being inclusive" it's that they thought using facescans was a good improvement, despite it seemingly being the reason we lost the most basic of features (changing eyes, lips and nose shapes).

I wish instead of Alec being tied to the preset we choose, that we could select Alec from a set of presets. I mean, depending on how much you change your Ryder, Alec can end up not matching them at all.
