It's so much more dire than I thought it would be. If nothing else, they have to do something about the eyebrow colors. I can work with dark eyebrows/lighter or unnatural hair, but that blond one is pretty much completely worthless with anything but a couple of blond hairs. That being said, 1 and 8 have pretty good "bones" and look age appropriate, so I imagine they'll be the most popular. I ended up using preset 5, mostly on the strength of its nose and freckly texture. Hair shadow issues aside, I'm pretty happy with how she turned out. Once the archive is up and running, I'll probably reboot with her and maybe go with a natural brown or black for her hair.

Just give me this preset. Different eyebrows, different eyecolor and I'm happy not pissed.

I'll take a generic face any day against bumped-all-around-the-casket-during-cryo-sleep-for-600-years face we've seen so many surfacing already. Asian = generic? I never saw a good Asian Shep in ME without mods and there weren't any real Asian options for the DA series. So an authentic looking Asian preset for MEA is a rarity to me, and they certainly don't look generic or "average" (unattractive) to me. Asians can really look generic and average especially with these " all Asians are just Chinese/Korean/Japanese" stereotype presets.... there's 48 Asian countries and we are all very diverse with various ethnicity, cultures and their subethnics. If you go over earlier posts, I do mention a post with a Ryder who kinda looks like me which isn't the designated Asian preset. And lol, I am currently discussing the game with several (asian) ME fans and even they agreed that the Asian presets looks horrible especially the male Ryders. Yes, its harder to make a proper Asian-looking Shepard before but we still have the freedom to choose whichever features that we want and I still call that Shepard as authentic Asian - even if you personally think they don't. Point is, we don't need presets to judge that for us. If I want to make Gackt or Aaron Kwok or Iko Uwais as my twin brother, let me do that instead of settling down with some lan jiao-looking guy.

Well the game crashed CC is awful.. but I managed to make my Ana have some semblance to who I wanted her to look like. There's no getting around the fact it will be extremely obvious which preset you picked though. Might mess around with some other presets. Pictures in spoiler. I have a feeling that, that hair option is gonna to be use quite a lot across FemRyder all over. Yeah--honestly, that's literally the ONLY hairstyle I have any interest in. At least there were 2 in DAI.

Is the CC upload/download feature (Mass Effect Archive) working? I have EA Access on Xbox One but I'm getting the PS4 version. I'd like to have my faces ready on Day 1 if possible so I can jump straight into SP.

I'm not too bummed about hair this time around, I think those at least are improvement from trilogy. That might be, because I like bob hairstyles, but saw quite many I can pick for my Mandy. Male hairstyles seems bit more limited to me, but at least default Scott's is nice. Of course they could be better and there really could be more options than just 11, that's quite low amount, but style wise I'm not too bothered. Color-wise though I'd have liked option to have dark purple hair, unnatural colors are bit too bright and pastel for what I was thinking of.

OK. Spent some time in the CC. My thoughts: The CC is more limited in scope than I realized. The lack of mouth/nose/eye shapes is obviously the biggest blow to customization. I felt limited in hair colors since we cannot change eyebrow colors at all. If a hairstyle is too high on the forehead, there is not much to be done to close the gap. The eyebrows and eyes can only go up so far. The ears can't be adjusted at all. I do not think it's possible to modify the CC in a way that we want because once I started playing the game, I could see that the animations were better with fixed features. Yes, there were derpy moments, but I think that applies to all of the presets and the default Sara. There are also some nice moments, too. Anyway, I ended up going with preset #5. Despite the lack of customization (apart from makeup and hair), she really does look like a real person and blends in with the NPCs around her. A few non-spoiler screenshots from the game: Even though I'm dismayed that I still know that's the #5 pixie cut preset, I'm elated that it actually took me like 5 seconds this time to figure that out. You did an AMAZING job with limited tools, tbh. And that preset at least has some freckles. Was that the lightest skin tone you could choose or just a little off the middle? I love it, in any case. If she was an option, I'd choose her over the others immediately. Now I at least have a tiny bit of hope I can make something I won't hate looking at. Thank you.

What's up with skin tones being so limited for many of the presets? The skin tone the default ryder has isn't in the character creator for many of them, e.g head 8 on the female side.
Well, at least it has physics this time and hair doesn't look like it's glued on like a plastic wig anymore, I guess that's something.

Well. I freakin' tried. Oddly enough, I used the default Scott Ryder sibling and the game interpreted this combination of things to mean that my character's dad needed to be half black dude half Asian. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Apparently your dad is simply tied to preset you pick so no matter how much you modify your preset your dads look doesn't change.

What the hell, BioWare?! You make it so hard to support you, sometimes. They've basically made it impossible to make an attractive caucasian female with the CC. And the fact that this very good preset exists in their game, but only in MP for some bizarre and baffling reason, is just the icing on the cake. I'm genuinely angry now. Why the hell isn't this preset in the SP game? Please, everyone who feels the same way, send them tweets about this. If enough people complain I bet they'll add this preset in a patch.

My Ryder kinda looks like he has wrinkles sometimes but then like the textures load or something and he looks normal. Also the back of his hair clips into his neck. So I am gonna have to try again with a different preset and hair. It's a shame coz he looks fine in most cut scenes.
idk why I can't choose stuff like complexions. I also really want to change the eye shapes.

I'm going to be the unpopular opinion and say that IMO I rather like the CC in Andromeda, both compared to ME1/2/3 and DAI. Why?
I'm a person who's bad with CC. I tend to take defaults and make small tweaks to them. One of the most horribly daunting things about DAI was the CC because I'm just not that good at making a face. Honestly, any game with a lot of facial options just results in me making incredibly minor tweaks to presets to try and tip-toe my way into my ideal character.
So for once NOT having to deal with a mess of sliders is reassuring to me that I won't spend a zillion hours pushing sliders a half-centimeter to the left or right and agonizing over which turned out better.
Not that I don't understand the plight of others with regards to the CC, but it's just a relief to me. My only real gripes are:
1) You can't really do fair skin on the presets that you think would allow it because of the skin-tones (Default Scott/Sara seem to be the palest skin tones available)
2) No ability to modify Defaults. Honestly I really like Scott's look, I just wish I could remove the facial stubble.
3) Hair color. I wanted to do a strawberry blonde/auburn look to hair (like myself) but making a redhead seems difficult without doing hair-dye red. Or maybe I just suck at the color wheel business.

Such a let down.... seen hairstyles on NPCs we can't get... why? Facial hair is a complete joke.... I'm feeling this is what most of us wanted: And this is what we got: Really happy that Bioware found the time in those 5 years to really work on that clown make-up.... /sarcasm

Dad is definitely just tied to the preset, because I have the same Alec and I used the same female preset and default Scott as well. I was a bit surprised as well to see him. It's hilarious - in a 'I want to cry' way - when you realise they limited us this much and still don't get the families right. They should just have let us customise all three really, problem solved.
I really really hate the CC now that I've gone through it. Twice because for some reason my Ryder's mouth ended up much higher than it seemed and it looked awful. The second time it still looked higher up but I gave up at that point.
I ended up just desperately trying to make her look less like a clone of the preset, but it didn't really work. I hadn't designed my Ryder beforehand, but I did have a Hawke (from an Inquisition pt, I love that CC soo much) I kinda wanted to use as a guide, because I'd just presumed the CC would be similar in at least options. But now I just feel stuck with a generic face I feel no real interest in as a character, which is a shame because I like Ryder's lines so far.
And yes the make-up is horrible. Even the 'normal' ones... who puts one colour all over their eyes up to the brow? And the lipstick looks like a sticker.
I went with one of the unnatural hair colours just because we finally could but I agree that the lighter colours look, well, flat almost.
Also I'm fairly certain I spotted a female NPC who looked generated in the CC but had a curly undercut we don't get to use. So maybe there's more like that and it might get patched in? I don't expect much from the patch, because I'm not sure if they can even give us the options we want. (Changing facial features, eyebrows.) But some things should be possible.
Also, that website is a joke. Did they do something for Inquisition like that? Because THOSE characters could look divers AND people were constantly sharing sliders... but here. If you see a picture of a Ryder you like it would take two minutes to recreate them.
(I know this was all negative, but it is a CC thread... I did like the rest of the game, what I saw of it in the trial.)
