Am I alone in thinking the character creator isn't so bad? I know there aren't as many options as Dragon Age Inquisition, but the presets and hair are way better.
Maybe it's just because I'm lazy and untalented when it comes to making characters so I prefer to tweak a preset rather than create something totally original.

I have yet to see CC of Scott that I find more appealing than Steven Brewis, who does look amazingly like his face model. I have therefore not been motivated to customize Scott, whereas I have done CC for Shepard.
As far as Jayde Rossi, that pic was a joke, right? Makeup or no, that woman doesn't even remotely resemble Jayde Rossi. Make fun of the poor graphics and not the model.

Maybe it's just because I'm lazy and untalented when it comes to making characters so I prefer to tweak a preset rather than create something totally original. Yes, I would have loved to make minor changes to the original rather than have to use the presets. I wonder if it's something to do with BioWare not be allowed to alter their image. Kaidan's face model (Luciano Costa, visible on my avatar) said his image was captured one time only and that that changes across the games were related to improved technology rather than BioWare altering his image. I'm sure the same was true with Mark Vanderloo. Samara's face model was dead accurate. Not sure why FemShep had no face model, or at least I've never heard of one.

That woman doesn't even remotely resemble Jayde Rossi. Make fun of the poor graphics and not the model. If you're discussing the real model vs Sara, you can see the resemblance easily provided you account for the variations.
This is more in-line with what they were intending - but I can still see her face in the standard in-game model. Due to whatever corners they cut, they had the facial structure intact and her lips were very similar, but again, add the completely different complexion, the much bigger eyes, pinned up hair and lack of makeup plus everything else and it's easy to see why some can't see the original model in Sara. I can see it a mile away.
---
As for the Character Creator.
The creator itself isn't terrible - it just suffers the same fate as a lot of others. Games like Fallout 4, Inquisition, MEA and various others involve different lighting in the creator than most of the actual gameplay, hence why you could spend so much time fine-tuning the perfect character only for them to look like hot garbage once the game actually starts. Even 0.10 opacity black blush will look god-awful in anything other than conversation close-ups, and the prettiest looking character will turn into a cartoon goof-ball once the truly terrible animations/faces kick in, like Sara's face at the beginning. Same with Inquisition - all inquisitors pull the face at the beginning and that's when things start going south. However, the followup issue in MEA is that the base-models and animations themselves do zero justice to your work. Mix them all together and you have a 33/33/33 ratio between three different issues, most of which aren't tied to the creation process. The issue with the creator itself is simply the fact that it is somewhat restrictive compared to various other titles, yet you can produce some OK results.
---
On that note, .5 increase of skin-tone and a new-hairstyle converted my old Tamina Ryder into a completely new look (intentionally). Now that my second (and final) playthrough is complete, all I want to do is upload a very final Sara to the archive before shelving SP. I've been very happy with Tammy overall - only the really stiff animations or overly protruding talk-animations (or sad/smirk faces) ruin it, but those problems effect almost every human/asari character in the game, so it's a great baseline for me and 100% my own.
Will no doubt do some more tweaking and finalize it sometime soon, then moving on to Inquisition (which ironically has very similar issues despite more creative freedom).

I can see it a mile away. Scott's face model looked almost exactly the same in-game. That's why I saw Sara as so problematic.

Again, Sara was not a 100% replication. If she were, she wouldn't have different hair, freckles etc. They obvious took some of her but altered it for one reason or another. Even after those changes (and yes, even with the original bug-eyes of the pre-patch release and other strange details) I can clearly see the model's features in Sara and vice versa.
