I will not carry over my ME 1 playthrough into ME 2. Since I intend to romance Kaidan this time and since Kaidan is not part of her canon romance I will simply re upload the ME 2 file into ME 2. I may do ME 2 into ME 3 depending on circumstances and how I feel at the end of the day. There are ways around this, though somewhat convoluted. Import the ME1 game and play until you wake up at the Lazarus Project. Save and exit. Then use the Gibbed Savegame Editor to tell the game that you "finished", also using it to flag that you romanced Kaidan. Then import that save to a new playthrough. It will start with Kaidan on board the Normandy. The only "off" point anywhere in the game will be in the message Kaidan sends to you, referencing you as female. However, the import into ME3 won't make any such references, though certain dialogue may be silent if it refers to a continuing romance. You just need the subtitles on for that. Playing on PS 3.

Mark Shepard:
Franklin: An Alliance facility had been overtaken by batarians. They launched missiles at two locations. Somehow, I had to stop it. After taking care of the batarians, I found there was only one kill switch code. Now I had to decide who lived and who died. I chose to save the capital city. I meant the colony would have to be restarted from scratch but I could let these people die.
Normandy SR-2: Got a message from the Illusive Man. Says a turian patrol disabled a Collector vessel but was itself destroyed. All sounds sketchy. Anything that could take out the SR-1 would make short work of anything the turians could throw at it. In any case, it's necessary to get there and get some intel on the Collectors before the turians show up.
Collector Ship: Went in with Miranda and Grunt. It's creepy and there are no signs of life. Ship itself seems organic. Found empty Collector pods and piles of dead human bodies. Then we found a dead Collector. EDI analyzed the data and I got a hell of a shock. The Collectors are Protheans. The Reapers repurposed them for their own ends. Shitty end for the Protheans.
EDI confirmed it's the same ship that attacked the SR-1. An unlikely coincidence, just like the Collectors chasing after Kaidan. It was looking more and more like this was a trap. When I created a bridge between a console and the Normandy something strange happened. The Normandy briefly lost power. Then things started powering up on my sides. Platforms with Collectors on them began hovering in my direction. It was a trap.
We fought them off but that thing on Horizon that kept taking control of the Collectors there was doing the same thing on this ship. Finally, when it was done, I re-established a link to EDI. She was able to take control of the platforms, which kept the Collectors from getting to us that way. Now we just had to fight our way back to the shuttle. Then EDI dropped a bomb that the turian distress signal would never have been thought to be real by the Illusive Man. The Collectors had send the signal and he knew it. This is the second time that sneaky bastard had intentionally put us in harm's way without giving us all the details. Even Miranda was startled by the information.
To make matters better, the Collector ship started powering up. If I was still on board the Normandy would have no choice but to leave. Even with armor upgrades it would likely destroy my ship. Then I'd be stuck here. We hightailed it out of there, killing every Collector, Harbinger, husk and scion that was in our way. Only had to revive Grunt and Miranda once, which is once too many times in my opinion, but at least we all got out alive.
Normandy SR-2: I let the Illusive Man know that I could not trust his intel based on what he was saying. Nevertheless, there was an eons dead Reaper that might have the necessary IFF (Identify Friend/Foe) that would allow us to pass through the Omega-4 relay to take the fight directly to the Collectors. Jacob wanted to go immediately but Miranda cautioned building the team. I agreed with her. We weren't ready. Not with most of the crew distracted by personal issues. Plus, there were still a few more allies to recruit, including Tali - though I wasn't sure I really wanted to endanger her this way.
Had dinner with Kelly. We just talked. Not sure I want to take anything further with her but it's nice to have a friendly around. Easy on the eyes. And she didn't flinch at seeing Kaidan's picture on my desk. But she did offer to feed my fish. Replacing them once was enough.

Today, I've done something I've never done in any of my ME2 runs, bring Legion to Tali's loyalty mission. It was glorious, all the Quarians freakin out bwahaha and I'm kicking myself for not trying this sooner! Yup, I'm an idiot. Next stop, shopping and then Legion's loyalty mission, gotta blow up dem pesky heretics. Heh, bring Tali along for balance.... Domi's Mark the Renegade finished Mars, and recruited that Other Doctor to prove just how Renegade he is. Yep, lots of auto-dialogue so far, but M!Shepard sounds very much in character. But, providing, I am planing Domination Ending, I find that the options to say something like Hmm.. etc vs the Illusive Man are missing, but then again, he is now an opponent and Mark is a man of actions, not a philosopher. Anyway, we'll see if Mark has to resist the idea till the very end.

Decided to progress my playthrough today by rescuing some Cerberus defectors whilst playing ABBA's Greatest Hits in the background (because why the heck not ). Killing Cerberus soldiers to the backing track of Dancing Queen is quite fun and relaxing! Anyway moving on...
Adept Shepard on insanity...
Battled Cerberus soldiers and encountered Jacob. Shepard and Jacob had gotten on okay in the past but they wouldn't consider each other as friends. Jacob has moved on from everything that's happened in the past and he now has a fancy woman named Brynn. The next reunion wasn't so happy as Dr Archer's callous experimentation was something Shepard wasn't going to forget. Archer didn't deserve to know that David was safe so Shepard let him fret further. Dr Archer couldn't handle his guilt and ended his life. Shepard might have shown more emotion if he hadn't known what torture David was put through. The "Winner Takes It All" played at this point, which was a little bit distasteful when a man just taken his own life but it seemed a little apt as well with the line 'I don't want to talk' . Shepard asked Jacob about his father to feign a little interest about his life story (I can't actually remember how I dealt with his father to be honest because it was a lifetime ago ) and then it was off to save the facility. The entire area was evacuated for a happy ending.
Investigated an Asari monestary and reunited with Samara. At the bomb site, Shepard died once through a close quarters banshee attack (I forgot how terrifying the banshees fights are especially whilst hearing the teleporting sound effect behind you when you're trying to flee). I ended up just panic throwing lift grenades everywhere and luckily scraped by the fight. Shepard stopped Samara's suicide because he doesn't want to witness two suicides in one day. The monestary is peaceful and can be forgotten once again.
Shepard's next stop will be a meeting with the Quarians because they've been patiently waiting for the longest time.

From the Personal Logs of the SSV NormandyCommander's Log, Commander Abigail Shepard reporting, SSV Normandy.
Surprise, surprise, the Asari lied to me. The Asari Nassana Dantius's sister was a slaver. And while I do not appreciate being used in the least...well I suppose its better if I do not burn all my bridges just yet. However, well she did lie to me. Someone to watch out for in the future.
And this Cerberus sounds like a nasty piece of work. Alliance Black Ops? Why is this the first I am hearing of them? Regardless, they led innocent Alliance Marines into their deaths...why does that sound so familiar?
I have laid in a course for Luna to deal with Admiral Hacket's little problem, we will be there shortly. Quick question for everyone: Should my Shepard, or another member of the crew since I am also thinking about doing...other members of the crew eventually...mention the Andromeda Initiative in these logs, give their thoughts on it? Now keep in mind it will likely get mentioned in a log entry for ME 2 or ME 3 so I have a while, just curious. And man, I hate to say this...because I still consider ME 1 a great game. But, playing this game after playing Dragon Age Inquisition is like transitioning from an Austin Martin V 12, to a 67 Mustang. Both great cars, but a littttlllee clunky. Though on the flip side I am appreciating playing a character which has a little personality again. Don't think I realized just how bland the Inquisitor was until I stepped back into Abigail's shoes.

Just finished Legion's loyalty mission, blew up the heretics. All I have left to do is wait for the Collector raid and begin the SM. Looooooooove the SM. Debating whether or not to put Jacob in the vents, for shits and giggles.

Karen Shepard, Soldier (Shock Trooper), ME1 NG+:
Noveria: Peak 15 (Rift Station)
Shepard, Liara, and Tali took the tram to Rift Station and were met by Captain Ventralis, the ERCS officer in charge of security at the Peak 15 labs. Ventralis and his troops were exhausted from fighting off attacks from the alien creatures for days, and had resorted to taking stims to try and stay alert. Shepard assured the Captain that they would do whatever they could to help resolve the situation.
Ventralis gave some info about the situation, and warned Shepard not to poke around in high security areas. He revealed that Benezia had gone to the Hot Labs, and provided a pass to use the emergency elevator to get to the labs. Shepard took the pass, but decided not to head for the labs right away. As always, she wanted to gather as much intel as possible before continuing to a confrontation with Benezia, and there was something about Ventralis' behavior that didn't sit quite right with her. She was probably imagining things - the captain was suffering from exhaustion, after all - but given all of the hoops they had been forced to jump through to get a pass to go anywhere on Noveria, Shepard was a little suspicious that someone was suddenly bending over backwards to be helpful.
Shepard and friends proceeded to the mess hall and spoke to some of the scientists and guards there. The guards were on edge, and the science team seemed as worried about the guards snapping as they were of the alien creatures. A salarian toxicologist named Dr Palon said he hadn't seen Benezia, but pointed out a Dr Iallis as the only asari present. Iallis was a fairly recent arrival, which raised Shepard's suspicions (Benezia did bring a group of asari commandos with her to Noveria), but she could certainly spout incomprehensible jargon as well as any scientist, so perhaps Shepard was just being paranoid.
Palon had mentioned an accident involving a bio-toxin infecting members of the science team (as if being attached by “bugs” wasn't bad enough), so Shepard and colleagues went to the medical bay to see if they could be of any assistance. The sick scientists were being treated by Dr Cohen, who was “'a' doctor but not 'THE' doctor”, a microbiologist who took over sick bay after the medic was killed by the alien creatures. The scientists in his care were contaminated by a biological weapon experiment went wrong. Cohen provided instructions on how to make a cure, Shepard would just need permission from Ventralis to access the quarantine lab in the science quarters.
Ventralis agreed (after a bit of grumbling), and the Spectre and her two companions headed for the quarantine lab. Down in the science quarters, they encountered Han Olar, a volus who had been the only survivor from the initial attack on the Hot Labs. He blamed himself for the death of a colleague, and was clearly traumatized by the events.
While answering a few questions from Shepard, Olar made a galaxy shaking revelation - the alien “specimens” that had escaped from the lab were Rachni, a race who were thought to gone extinct 2000 years ago as a result of war with the Council races and the uplifted Krogan. Shepard couldn't imagine how they survived all this time - Olar claimed an egg had been discovered on a derelict ship - but the fact that Saren was involved in their return couldn't be good. They would need to find Benezia and figure out what was going on before Saren added Rachni forces to his growing army.
First, they needed to finish the cure for the sick scientists. As they were synthesizing the cure, Dr Iallis showed up, escorted by geth and asari commandos. It seemed Shepard's instincts about her were correct after all. She'd been ordered by Benezia to stop them, so she killed the ECRS guard outside the door and cornered them in the quarantine lab. She soon learned that taking down Shepard's team was easier said than done, when a geth hacked by Tali started shooting her in the back and Liara sent her commandos flying around the room. Good times.
Han Olar revealed that the geth had come in through the maintenance area, and Shepard knew that if they could get access to it they could get to Benezia. Olar said that any project lead could provide a pass. Shepard returned to Dr Cohen, who was thrilled to have the cure and all too happy to part with his maintenance pass in exchange - “there's just snow back there”, he insisted; Shepard knew there was a lot more than that, but didn't say anything. Shepard went to check in with Ventralis, to inform him about the death of his guard at the hands of Iallis. He claimed he thought she had been “just another egghead”, but Shepard still wondered if he was hiding something. Cohen had revealed that the guards had been “on edge” since Shepard's arrival and had been expecting her. Shepard was glad she had been cautious and not tried to force her way past security, a bloodbath would surely have been the result.
Regardless, they now had a secret way in to the secure areas, and Ventralis and the guards would be none the wiser. Shepard looked at Liara and wondered if bringing her was a good idea. A confrontation with Benezia was no doubt imminent, and despite Shepard's hope that they could convince the Matriarch to turn her back on Saren and join them, she was not optimistic that a fight could be avoided. It was too late to turn back, however; hopefully Liara would be OK, no matter what happened with her mother.

Mark Shepard:
Haestrom: Didn't want to put off getting Tali any longer. I need another trustworthy person on the Normandy. The sun's a killer on this planet. Literally. It destroys shields. First place I came to had a dead geth and a dead quarian. There was also an emergency log saying the geth were present and to get to Tali'Zorah. Then there was a geth dropship. It wasn't going to be easy getting past them with shields going down whenever leaving shade. Fought through a lot of them to find a bunch of dead quarians. Answered the radio call of Kal'Reegar. He was the squad leader for these quarians.
Needed some demolition charges to get past a blockade the geth used to keep me from my destination. Found a journal entry from Tali. She was on Haestrom investigating why the planet's star was giving up such high levels of radiation. It wasn't always the case. Jack threatened to haunt me if she dies. Amusing.
Got in direct contact with Tali. She's safe but also trapped. Made my way to Kal'Reegar. Tali told me to save him so I made sure he didn't needlessly sacrifice himself against the self-healing colossus armature we were facing. He wanted to be a target but I convinced him I needed him alive - especially since he was the only quarian left alive aside from Tali. And she was on the other side of that colossus. It was a bitch of a fight but we came through. Tali was dissatisfied with the high mortality rate of her mission and so decided to join me on my suicide mission. Big win for me!
Tali did mention Haestrom's sun had aged much too quickly and she thought dark energy was to blame. Dark energy created mass effect fields and was also harnessed by biotics. I guess that meant that people like me, Kaidan, Jack and Miranda were part of the problem. Something to let the scientists deal with. That's what Tali's data was for anyway.
Normandy SR-2: Jacob gave Tali a welcome but she was clear that she distrusted Cerberus completely. As Tali was leaving to settle in, Jacob told her to introduce herself to EDI "the ship's artificial intelligence". Can't tell if he's being a jerk or is just insensitive. Than again, he did give his father a gun to kill himself so anything is possible. However, Tali immediately came in handy, getting us an upgrade in our shielding that might just save us from total destruction by the Collectors.
Tarith: Discovered a Blood Pack communications relay. Naturally I have to shut it down. The planet is full of sensor-disrupting fog. It's also got these weird things that look a heck of a lot like dragons - except bugs instead of reptiles. They even breathe fire. After killing them, some vorcha and a krogan, I shut down the relay. This, of course, pointed me to another base elsewhere.
Helyme: There's an Eldfell-Ashland Energy facility here. There are also lots of Eclipse mercs. Sounds like trouble to me. A log I found said the facility came under attack by mercs which means the Eclipse were raiding them. Found some encrypted data. Set about decrypting it while more mercs attacked. The decryption was a bust since the data was incomplete. Well, not a complete loss but it would require a lot more work to figure out what it was about. More disappointing was that Zaeed and Kasumi went down for the count until my last enemy was dead.
Illium: Lots to do here. People to recruit, an old friend to catch up with and to help Miranda's sister. Still, I figured I'd catch up with Liara first. That's why I brought Garrus and Tali with me. I learned that my fees had been waived by Liara who was now an information broker. Quite a leap from Prothean archaeologist.
Some random asari passed along a message from the rachni queen I'd saved on Noveria. The queen knew I was after the Reapers and promised to help me when the time came. I was leery of it all since the asari spoke in the rachni queen's "voice". She swore she wasn't being mind controlled but I didn't really know their capabilities.
Ran into Gianna Parasini, another one I'd met on Noveria. She owed me a beer but took off, leaving a note for me to help her out. Helped her with some white collar crime. No guns drawn but I did persuade the merchant to give me a discount before she realized she'd been entrapped. When I talked to Gianna again, she mentioned something about dark energy. I'm guessing this is going to be a thing. And she gave me a kiss on the cheek behind. Liara, Ash, Kaidan, Kelly, Tali and now Gianna - all seem to want me. Weird.

From the Personal Logs of the SSV Normandy We have arrived on Ferros, to deal with the Geth problem, but there seems to be something else going on with the colony, people are acting...weird. I can't quite put my finger on it. But in the meantime we helped them get out of harms way, and Kaidan has started to save my bacon...I guess he is making up for the whole Eden Prime thing.
Made a quick stop back at the Normandy to pick up supplies before heading back into the colony. Which I am actually about to hit Zhu's Hope in the game, with the Thorian gas, but since I am only doing 'logs' every time Shep walks on the Normandy I am a bit behind the times. Anyways the 'highlight' of the time playing was when the Mako got stuck on some sort of machinery on the skyway of Ferros, and then decided to launc itself into the air by driving through said piece of machinery and then falling to its death. That was fun. But on the reload at least I got to shoot jeung, that is one Renegade/ Paragon charm I do not do.

Illium (continued): Ran into Conrad Verner on Illium. He's been trying to replace me since I went missing a couple of years ago. Even wearing replica N7 armor. Only he's just causing trouble. He was swindled into believing the owner of a bar was a red sand distributor - it's not and it's legal on Illium anyway. It was another merchant trying to unlawfully get the deed. I convinced that other merchant that all she had to do was show and be tough. Then the deed would be turned over to her. Heh heh. I got there in time to see her arrested. I told Conrad she was a deep cover terrorist and he helped me find her. Then I sent him home. Oh, and I got a discount from that weapons merchant before her arrest.
Finally went to see Liara. She was happy to see me. She needed help from me. Just hacking a few terminals, nothing major.
Helped an asari and krogan to get together. Also ran into Shiala, the asari who formerly served Matriarch Benezia before being given to the Thorian on Feros. She was looking green, just like the clones of her the Thorian had created. Control by the Thorian had given the colonists from Zhu's Hope all kinds of medical conditions. Someone was paying for their medical care but exploiting them as well. They needed help. After talking to the Baria Frontiers representative it was all sorted out for the better. Then Shiala hit on me. I know hot green alien babes is a thing but I like the asari better in blue.
Met with Seryna. She told me Thane Krios, an assassin I was looking to recruit, could be found at Dantius Towers. I met Nassana Dantius on the Citadel. Her sister was a slaver and she wanted her dead. I had no problem with that job. However, it seems Nassana is cut from the same cloth. Abusive toward her workers and generally not a good person. That meant someone wanted her dead and Krios was the one planning to kill her. Apparently, he's not doing this for money so that makes it interesting.
Dantius Towers, Illium:Seryna dropped myself, Jack and Mordin off at the Towers. The first sight I saw were mechs gunning down fleeing salarian workers. That's it. Nassana is dead. I destroyed the mechs but only saved one of the workers.
Fought my way up against mechs and Eclipse mercs. One merc refused to give me information and I gave him the fast way down to the pavement below. When I finally reached Nassana she was convinced I was there to kill her. I was, but that hadn't been my initial motivation. That's when the drell assassin dropped in, taking out her guards, and killed Nassana. I was impressed. Thane agreed to join my mission.

From the Personal Logs of the SSV Normandy Commander Abigail Shepard's Log, SSV Normandy, March 28th 2183.
Well, found out what the issue with the Ferros survivors was. they were under the control of something called 'The Thorian'. A very old creature. And all its minions, and Asari clones. God I hate Asari Clones. Nevertheless I understand it being a tradedy to killing something so old, at least in a thoretical sense, but it was still enslaving people. Still something that had to be stopped. And, it was actually a fair bit of tactical brilliance to get there. A curious puzzle to work out keeping all our people alive while killing the Thorian and its minions. Wonder if the Creepers were clones from...somewhere?
Nevertheless we made our usual stop over at the Citadel, stocking up on supplies, food, ammo, mostly, before heading back out. Dealt with my fan a bit. He was quite the idiot...wanting to be a Spectre. I shoved a gun in his face and he folded like a cheap suit. Almost hated doing it but he didn't have what it took. He has not seen violence, combat, the blood, the noise of a battlefield. He could not survive Torfan, let alone any of the minor battlefields I have been to recently, time he figured that out.
With the Normandy resupplied we laid in a course for the Armstrong Cluster, on the other side of the Galaxy, rumors are the Geth are mounting a major offensive so I am going in to stop it. So boy was Ferros fun last night. I didn't have anywhere near the same number of problems that I usually do with the Throian Section. I started off with an insane idea, even more insane that it worked. I charged Shiala the first time she appeared out of the Throian's gut and Assault Rifle whipped her, it knocked her over the edge and she plumeted to her death *cackles*. Then my girlfriend asked me 'if I ever needed to releoad' since I was able to fire a constant stream of bullets. I showed her the Frictionless Materials X on my Spectre AR but she was asking more...so I accidentally unequipped it, so going from no heat, to a lot of heat, oh crap, had to change it out back to Frictionless Materials. The last thing of note I was really able to set up my ambushes this time and watched the Creepers go into my weapon stream. Bit annoyed at how much damamge these things are taking on Hardcore difficulty but...yeah...its great. And I started the geth invasion thing/ Tali's loyalty mission. And in non gameplay news I had my first ME A dream last night. The dream started with me getting my copy of Andromeda like...next month...oddly enough. So I looked into it and found some people got the game early so they could stream it and I was on the short list, so we could stream. So I streamed some of the MP, and tried out the SP, didnt get as far as the CC and saw a bunch of cool options with Ryder's hair in the CC. So...that should make people happy.

Michael did a quick run over Menae to get himself a Primarch. First time I've done it without Garrus and it was surprisingly pleasant. Not enough to get Garrus on the perma death list, but he might end up getting another rocket to the face in future playthroughs. It also created an interesting mental image, Liara pondered how Garrus would have fit into this if he was still breathing and decided that he would be in the middle of the action, pissed. So now I got the image of him drunkenly stumbling through the battlefield, shouting obscenities at the Reapers. Speaking of drinking, Michael then beat up James for drinking on the job, since James didn't remember that he'd just been to the Turian home world. Michael only took the renegade interrupts, so his nose got a bit bloody, but he got a new nickname for his trouble. Michael also started Leviathan, since he's probably going to end up killing a few friends so he needs them extra ems points. Also tossed a Peruvian Whiskey bottle at Kaidan, told Chakwas to stay at the lab while he recruited Dr. Michel and met an unloyal Thane at the hospital. (Also a first time for me, since Thane is usually loyal or dead, he's a lot more prickly this way.) He ended the session on Aria's couch, sober, discussing how to get those pesky gangs to be useful for other things than target practice.

Karen Shepard, Soldier (Shock Trooper), ME1 NG+: Noveria: Matriarch Benezia, Rachni Queen Shepard, Liara, and Tali snuck in to the secure section of the labs via the maintenance area, thereby avoiding setting off any alarms or alerting the guards. At last, they came face to face with Matriarch Benezia, Saren's second in command.
She was holding a rachni captive in a tank, presumably a queen, as she claimed the rachni's children were bred to "hunt and slay Saren's enemies". Benezia, Shepard and Liara exchanged words, but Shepard's attempt to resolve situation without a fight by appealing to Benezia not to try and kill her own daughter failed. Benezia began casting biotic powers as geth and asari commandos came streaming in. Shepard and her team defeated all of Benezia's forces, and the Matriarch was exhausted from using so many of her biotic abilities over such a short period. She claimed she was attempting to fight off Saren's influence - the indoctrination - and had sealed off a part of her mind that would enable her to help them for a few minutes before Sovereign regained control. She confirmed Shiala's claim that Sovereign was the key; the more time spent in the ship's presence, the more you came to idolize Saren, but even he was just a tool. Sovereign was the real threat. Benezia initially thought she could resist, turn Saren away from his madness, but she too fell under his spell.
She revealed what they were really after from the rachni queen - the location of the Mu Relay, which was key to finding the Conduit. It was lost when its star went supernova four thousand years earlier and pushed it out of its orbit, but was undamaged. The rachni had controlled that part of space and knew its new location, and the hive mind nature of their species enabled them to transmit information across generations via the queens. Benezia had provided the location to Saren, and now gave it to Shepard as well.
Just before the indoctrination began to overcome Benezia's willpower, she told Liara she was proud of her. Then she attacked again, aided by more geth and commandos. In her weakened state, she wasn't much of a match for Shepard and her team. Benezia slumped to the ground and Liara begged her mother to stay with them. Shepard offered medigel - she still believed that if they could save Benezia and get her away from Saren and Sovereign she could help them. She couldn't - or perhaps wouldn't - carry on. She pleaded with Shepard to stop Saren, then Matriarch Benezia succumbed to her injuries and died.
That left the matter of the rachni and the queen to deal with. As Shepard approached the tank the rachni queen was being held in, she was startled by a "dead" asari commando that began speaking strangely to her. The queen was able to control the mind of the dying commando, who was too weak resist the telepathic influence.
She told Shepard that her children had been taken from her, and without their mother they couldn't develop properly - the rachni on Noveria had essentially gone mad, and that they were beyond help and needed to be euthanized or they would continue to attack everyone. She answered Shepard's questions about her past, and what she knew about the Rachni Wars. She said that the rachni communicate via a telepathic "song", and that during the Rachni Wars this song had been corrupted by a "sour yellow note" and implying that fighting had not been what the rachni had wanted.
Shepard had to decide her fate, whether the queen would be released or executed. The queen promised that if released she would rebuild her species peacefully, teaching her children of the mercy Shepard had shown them. Shepard knew she might be saying that just to save her own skin, and Tali suggested that letting her go was too risky, but Liara countered that the queen "has done nothing to us". Shepard was inclined to agree. The queen was a victim, of Saren, of Binary Helix scientists. Just because her species had gone to war with the Council races in the past didn't mean conflict was inevitable, just as the humans and turians were now allies despite the First Contact War. Shepard decided to let the rachni queen go, despite the risk. With all this talk of "Reapers" and the Conduit, she suspected that there were much bigger threats lurking out there anyway.
Noveria: Hot Labs / Normandy Shepard, Liara and Tali made their way to the Hot Labs, to deal with the remaining rachni. A worker named Yaroslev Tartakovsky confirmed the queen's story about the remaining rachni being beyond saving. Binary Helix had found an egg on a derelict ship, and had wanted to clone the rachni and create and army, a plan which had obviously backfired. He indicated that activating a neutron purge would eliminate all of the remaining rachni forces on Noveria. Before he could activate the purge, he was attacked and killed by rachni that emerged from the vents.
Shepard and her team killed the rachni, retrieved the activation codes from Tartakovsky's body, and activated the purge. They successfully extracted before the purge activated, and returned to the Normandy.
In the debriefing, the team debated whether to head for the Mu Relay or not, but without any knowledge of where Saren was heading it was no use. They needed more information. Shepard dismissed the crew and called the Council. As expected, they were not happy about the release of the rachni queen, fearing the consequences of their return. Shepard stood by her decision - the galaxy would have to find a way to live with the rachni, assuming Saren didn't doom them all first.

I missed posting a few days this week, but basically I loaded up some old ME3 Sentinel saves so I could record some dialogue for a video compilation.
I also fooled around a bit with a Barrier detonation playstyle, but much like the last time I tried something similar... it just sucks. Detonating your barrier does not detonate biotic combos, only primes. And because Barrier cooldown begins after detonation, you cannot detonate lifted enemies since they fall down before the cooldown ends. So you end up relying on Liara's Warp (and/or Javik's Slam or Kaidan's Reave if you have them). This would be expected and fun in Mass Effect 2 because it makes sense within the game mechanics, but in Mass Effect 3 it just ends up being second-rate (or even third-rate) because you just have so many other better options.

I'd probably skip mentioning AI myself. I have no idea of how much Shepard knows. I try to stick to actual events in the game, not even references to other media (books, comics).

Mark Shepard:
Illium (continued): Miranda has what she called a twin sister. She took her from her father when she ran away. Now it seems like he's on to her and the family she lives with. Now that we're here it turns out that, while they are genetically identical, Oriana was actually born when Miranda was a teenager. Thus, she stole an infant. It complicates things more but no surprises there when it comes to Cerberus. Miranda also brought in her old friend Niket, the only other person she trusted with this.
As we killed our way through Eclipse mercs we started to hear snippets of conversation. It sounds like Niket might not be so trustworthy after all. I told her so but she didn't want to believe me, at least not until we got to him and one of the Eclipse mercs - a merc who shot a transport worker who was simply trying to flee the scene. In any case, Niket was paid off by Miranda's father because he also didn't realize Oriana had been an infant when taken. Miranda was going to kill her but, unlike with Jacob, I didn't see this guy as evil. He really thought Oriana would be better off with an insanely wealthy father over the average family who raised her. I stopped her from taking the shot. Unfortunately, the Eclipse merc killed him. But then we killed her and all of her mercs.
Oriana was reunited with her family. I prodded Miranda to introduce herself to her sister. I could see that put Miranda at ease. Besides, if it ever came down to Cerberus vs me, I wanted her choosing me. Decisions like this, where she makes good choices, help.

From the Personal Logs of the SSV Normandy: Chief Engineer Adams reporting, March 30, 2183.
I have told the Commander numerous times that the Mako getting damaged, and patched up with Omni gel is not a permenant solution, it still needs a detail once it comes back to the Normandy if it is damaged in battle. And this last time, it was heavily damaged. Worse she expects it back open for combat operations within 2 hours. *sigh* and I was looking forwaard to some off time to.
***
CO SSV Normandy, Commander Abigail Shepard reporting, April 2, 2283.
We finished sweeping the Armstrong Cluster of Geth. A risky operation, made even more trecherous because the Mako's guns could not depress far enough often enough to hit the targets I was aiming at. But they could sure hit it, so much so that numerous times it was easier to engage the enemy on foot, even with Collusi and other high yield units in the area.
Afterwards we finally looked down after Admiral Kahoku's lead about Cerberus. And found him dead. But we put a dent into the operation and downloaded data about their operations. The death of an Alliance Admiral is bad. But, for the moment, he is avenged.
Now onto the Hades Game Cluster to deal with Helena Blake's...issues.
Also, I am officially noting Engineer Adam's concerns about the Mako but if the thing did not suck this much it would not need to be repaired as badly. Man the combat in this game is a frustrating grind fest. After playing games like Inquisition, and Witcher 3, and even the later ME titles...this is not a game you want to play casually. Hell maybe I should have even skipped it for this go ahead, I did not evens start it on insanity. Neverthless, I lowered the difficulty to Veteran, hopefully that will help.

Fired up ME3 again to continue my Kaidan-mancing Vanguard playthrough. Today i've finished Rannoch (second attempt kill on the Reaper! I'm getting better!) and didn't get stuck anywhere daft vanguarding geth primes. Having brokered peace, again, it's back to the Citadel for a party or at least a night out at a swanky restaurant with Joker. Oh damn...renegade interrupted again...
Also had a go at multiplayer for the first time. Ummm, i'd like to apologize to my teammates for being the worst infiltrator ever. Luckily for them my game froze and i'm going back to JenShep, who's going to take Kaidan out to a casino...

Mark Shepard:
Illium, Commercial Spaceport: It was time to find that asari justicar, Samara. I was already warned that asari have different rules in their own sector of space that doesn't always go over well outside of asari space. We'll see how this works out.
Samara is investigating the murder of a volus merchant. Eclipse mercs are the likely suspects but the area is sealed off. Detective Anaya was my way in. She wasn't going to help until I said I wanted to recruit Samara and take her out. Everyone is anxious to see this justicar away from anyplace that could cause trouble. Most asari know that following the law and going up against a justicar is a death sentence so they don't want them around. Understandable. Sounds like someone I could use.
When I got to the crime scene I didn't waste any time attempting to talk to the Eclipse mercs I saw. Me, Tali and Garrus just went straight for the jugular. In the next room I found Samara fighting against another Eclipse sister. (Apparently all the Eclipse around here are asari.) Samara was looking for someone and wanted the name of a ship. When the sister refused to provide that information, even knowing she'd likely die, Samara killed her. It's my policy to kill mercs on sight so I have no problem with her methods so far.
That's when Anaya showed up to detain Samara. Samara said her code allowed her to be detained for a day but after that she would leave custody - something which would lead to a lot of innocent deaths. Samara suggested that if I could find the name of that ship then she would willingly leave Illium with me. I agreed. I wanted her and did want to see innocent people die. She pointed me to the partner of the dead volus merchant, Pitne For. He had an illegal copy of a pass key to a backdoor into the Eclipse base.
Pitne For was the cause of all of this, something he only admitted to at gunpoint. He sold the Eclipse a drug that boosted biotic powers but failed to mention that it was toxic. That's why they were gunning for he and his partner. I'd just shoot the guy but that might compel Samara to come after me.
Ran into an asari who claimed she never shot anyone. However, she was in Eclipse armor. Pitne For said that Eclipse sisters have to kill someone to get the uniform and I suspect he's telling the truth. That's why I killed this one. I don't know who she killed but letting her go would just lead to more. A little later I heard a recording from that asari mentioning how she earned her uniform by killing a volus. Don't know if it's Pitne For's partner or not but it's good to know my instincts are sharp.
Found information implicating Pitne For in selling the toxic biotic booster, as well as red sand. Again, red sand isn't illegal on Illium but I look down on anyone who sells it. I know what it can do to people, especially biotics who get addicted to the power boost.
Ran across Niftu Cal, a volus biotic who is clearly high. He thinks he's some kind of biotic god. The Eclipse mercs injected him with all kinds of drugs, maybe even the one Pitne For sold them. He believed he could take on the Eclipse captain alone. I knocked a little sense into him. I don't know if he's a good guy or not but he's clearly not fit for action.
Captain Wasea was pissed about smuggling that "filthy creature" (presumably Samara's prey) off-planet. It was bringing a lot of heat down on her. She attacked first, which was fine with me. We took care of her and found what was needed to allow Samara to leave with me.
Reported back to Samara. Anaya was relieved. Then I got a shock when Samara pledged her loyalty to me so that she wouldn't violate her code. However, she warned that if I made her do anything extremely dishonorable that it would come back on me once the mission was done. I think she and I are on the same page so it shouldn't be a problem.
Hacked a few terminals for Liara. She's hunting the Shadow Broker and this information helped her. Also helped people with a few minor things, like giving a salarian his family genetic data, which is apparently important for breeding purposes. Gave an asari a locket with a picture of her deceased human husband, the only thing of his she had to pass on to her daughter. Those things aren't galaxy-saving important but they do make me feel good, keeping me in touch with the people I'm trying to save.
Zada Ban: Found a Blood Pack base. Just like the Eclipse and Blue Suns, I love killing these guys on sight. Mostly vorcha with one krogan leader. Saw a reference to Garm on a data pad. Guess they don't know he's dead. Anyway, completed the mission by blowing the base to hell.
Aequitas: Alien signatures in a mining facility here. Stopping in to check it out. Aaaand...we've got husks. Again, this is either leftovers from Sovereign, the Collectors or even Cerberus. Time to figure out which. Surprise! It's Elanus Risk Control. Don't think they have Cerberus connections so this is just a tragic accident. This was leftover Reaper tech that they stumbled on. I blew it up.
Citadel: Garrus was looking for vengeance against Sidonis, the turian who had betrayed his mercenary band and got them all killed. I wasn't sure this was the right way to go for Garrus. He was my buddy and I didn't want to see him go down a dark path. Captain Bailey directed us to a warehouse. Inside were one volus and two krogan. None of them were Fade, the guy who hid Sidonis, but they did work for him. At gunpoint, the volus was more than happy to give up Fade. He was Harkin, a corrupt former C-Sec agent who had been kicked off the force around the time I became a Spectre. He used Blue Suns mercs for protection. Good. I was itching for a fight.
Citadel, Factory District: I brought Tali along with us. I'm hoping that it'll make Garrus uncomfortable enough that he'll be less willing to kill in cold blood. As soon as Harkin saw us he sicced his goons on us. He couldn't know why we were there other than that it was for him.

I'm baaaaack! I finished Final Fantasy 15, The Last Guardian, Brothers and Dear Esther over the holiday period and now I started Final Fantasy Type-0 as well, but I couldn't keep my hands off ME2 any longer, so I'll play both games at once Seeing as I have time until March until the next games I really want to play come out, I hope I have time for one more Shepard after I finish my BitchShep So... here we go! Filed under: Personal Illium is a lot better than Omega ever could be, which is not hard of course, but still it was quite pleasant to be there. Met some old acquaintances as well - this idiotic Verner guy I ran into the first time I was on the Citadel, Parasini and Shiala. Verner shouldn't be on Illium anymore now, thank God, and I helped out both Parasini and Shiala again. They're not nearly as annoying as Verner. T'Soni pretended she was my friend just because I saved her back when the Normandy went down, but at least she had information on both Krios and this justicar called Samara. I successfully won them both for my cause, but I do not trust them. Krios is an assassin, in addition he's dying. He told me he'd join my cause because innocent people have been abducted by the Collectors, but I doubt he doesn't have some agenda. I guess we will see. I told Jacob to watch him, and I will do the same. One more good thing that came out of it was that this bitch Nassana Dantius died by Krios' hands. I would've done it myself had he not shown up. The justicar follows a black and white code to deal with situations usually, but since I helped her find a ship name she needed in order to pursue some criminal, she pledged herself to me and my cause. She swore she had to follow my orders, but I don't quite believe her to do so. She already stated that she'd deal with me if it were necessary. I'd like to see her try. It's pathetic. Who needs a silly code anyway to deal with situations? Of course, I will stay on her friendly side, tell her what she wants to hear to keep her off my back. What I do or don't do is none of her business and I will not let her rule over me. Since the Normandy was docked at Illium anyway, Jacob and I helped Lawson get her 'twin' sister to safety from Daddy Lawson. She's not really her twin in age, a little detail which Lawson 'forgot' to mention to me... Wasn't too keen on this, but I have to say that I developed respect for Lawson. She understands my actions better than most of the crew does and she is certainly someone who knows when to walk away from something to reach her goal, even if she was attached to it. She shot her former friend who had betrayed her by trying to return Lawson's sister to her father. Bravo, Ms. Lawson, bravo. I admired her determination to see her sister safe, no matter the cost. I could use more people like this. Instead, I feel like I have to babysit all of them. Dr. Solus, Vakarian, Jack... all want my help for something. Jack is such a whiny brat, but I'm inclined to think I might be able to dig up some more dirt on Cerberus by going with her. We'll see. Pics! So here we are. I knew Neva would either respect or hate Miranda... and now, respect it is. Sometimes I like developing things along as I play, because some dialogues fit better to one idea and then I'm usually picking this up What I'm still having trouble with is the Samara/Morinth situation. Usually this is a no-brainer since I always pick Samara, but I feel like this could be the only Shepard for the near future to pick Morinth (I have never seen her dialogue so far and I'm interested to do this at least once). I guess I could see if my Paragon/Renegade scores are high enough to resist Morinth, then I could get rid of Samara's observing eyes that way while Shepard knows she is strong enough to resist Morinth. It will also be tough to be an ass to Jack furthermore because I love Jack, but I'm determined to see this through I love this Trilogy so much (I can't say it enough times)!

Miriam Shepard recruited a vengeful ancient... Visited Ashley in hospital; now back on her feet, all visible bruising healed. Intends to accept nomination as second human Spectre; she'll be awesome. Received news from her family; mother and sisters made it safely to the Citadel, but brother-in-law killed in action. Has hit her pretty hard. Met up with Miranda Lawson in the Citadel's lower decks; now on the run from Cerberus, having seen them for what they are. Still wearing absurd catsuit, but at least no Cerberus logos. Concerned about her sister, who has gone off the grid; suspects father's involvement. Encountered Matriatch Aethyta tending a bar in the Presidium. Turns out that she's Liara's father and has been taking jobs in locations where she can keep an eye on her daughter. Liara's talent for obtaining information is apparently hereditary. Encouraged Liara to get to know her father; might not have another opportunity. Returned batarian religious relics to a preacher in the Citadel refugee camp, having found then while exploring Reaper-controlled space. Secured top-grade weaponry for C-Sec from a black-market dealer in exchange for recovered artefacts. This reduces C-Sec's reliance on ordinary logistics, allowing them to tolerate some losses of shipments to Blue Suns pirates; this was the price for Blue Suns joining war effort. Don't like it, but war is a dirty business; can't be choosy about allies. The enemy of my enemy... Rescued a team of Shadow Broker operatives from the krogan DMZ following a tip-off from Barla Von. Operatives will join war effort. Ordered the Normandy to Eden Prime, where all this began, to investigate a Cerberus attack on the colony. Intelligence indicated Cerberus having uncovered a Prothean artefact, so went planetside with Liara. Took EDI as well to see how she fares in the field. Found heavy Cerberus presence, colonists slaughtered, evidence that some had been kidnapped, presumably for indoctrination and forced enlistment. Artefact turned out to be a functioning stasis pod containing a live Prothean. Cerberus attempting to open pod, unsuccessfully; searched colony for research that might help. Research was coded for Protheans only; Cipher activated; received visions of Protheans' last stand on Eden Prime. Intention was for a million to survive; plan failed following relentless Collector and Reaper attacks. Defeated Cerberus occupying force and opened pod. Prothean physically resembles Collector drone, unsurprisingly; but more reptilian than insectoid. Individual was disoriented; attacked landing party using powerful biotics. Willingly returned to Normandy after coming to senses. Questioned individual; gave name as Javik. Prothean civilization was a centralized, galactic "join-or-die" hegemony; conquered client races also considered Protheans after integration into empire, explaining apparent lack of evidence of other races during previous cycle. Centralized, homogeneous society proved to be downfall; too inflexible to adapt to Reaper war conditions. Organic-synthetic conflict similar to geth war occurred during Prothean cycle; Javik generally suspicious of synthetics. Javik agreed to join Normandy crew. Will evaluate performance on next mission. Visited Mordin in the medical bay, spoke to Wrex and "Eve". Wrex proving to be enlightened leader; will not pursue revenge against turians and salarians after genophage is cured. Eve's personality quite different from male krogan; quiet, philosophical; considers patriarchal rule responsible for krogan social problems. Hopefully, Wrex's new order will involve women at all levels of government. Mordin explains his one-eighty regarding the genophage as different tactics for different circumstances. Probably as close as he'll get to admitting an error. [Died twice on Eden Prime, blasted turrets were responsible both times! Whether single-player or multiplayer, Cerberus are colossal trolls Due to having to watch out for turrets all the time, I was a bit less vanguardy than I wanted to be. Turrets aside, "insanity" difficulty doesn't seem too insane thus far. I'm aware that the Adas is an easy-mode gun though, I don't think I'm doing anything especially skillful.]

Might it work better on an Adept than a Sentinel? Cluster grenades are a universal detonator (I think), with no cooldown. It'd smack of being a gimmick playstyle though; again, you'd have far better options.
