It didn't bother me either but it did make me stop and be baffled for a good 3 seconds or so as to what i just witnessed. It's over in a heartbeat but it sure is a sudden, strange tonal shift and then back to the plot again. It sounds like the "STEEEVE!" line should've been followed up by something else than "I'm all right!", "You sure?" and it felt like there should've been a cutscene and not a brief scripted distraction from the gameplay. This. I didn't think there was anything wrong with Shepard shouting "Steve," even if he isn't the LI. Cortes is a fellow Marine and a comrade-in-arms, regardless of how the player feels about the character. Shepard would be a terrible officer if he or she didn't give a fuck about the well-being of the people under his or her command. What made the scene odd was that the next line of dialogue from Shepard, where he sounds almost zen. It's the tonal shift. Instead of the calm "You sure?" Shepard should have had a line of dialogue where he still sounds slightly stressed. "No more close calls, Lieutenant. That's an order." Or something to that effect.

Nah, if he'd yell "STEEEVE!" like that then he should've also yelled "THAAAANE!" and "KIIIID!" in other parts where he seemingly would've cared as much.

Shepard does shout "Thane" when he gets stabbed. It would have been a bit odd however to have Shepard shout a character's name every time a crew member bought it. People rarely respond exactly the same way to different situations. A vocal reaction to a stressful situation also doesn't necessarily indicate that the situation was more stressful than another where the person was silent.

Kaidan has to take the shot to make it clear that I'm not a Cerberus agent shutting Udina up. (These are RP reasons, not game mechanics.) EDIT: Udina also has a weapon trained on the asari councilor. Not exactly looking innocent there. Mind you, the asari's biotics should have swiped that gun out of his hand but this is what we got. Would have been better to use the turian since he's likely not biotic.

Too bad there wasn't an option to let Udina shoot the asari then shoot him. excellent.
I would've shot Udina in the arm, leg or shoulder. Then question him why he did what he did.

I think it makes for a better story if the Virmire Survivor is the one to take down Udina.

It's still lame you have to kill Udina though without a hint of remorse. He was taken too far.

I think it would be more interesting if Udina wasn't a villain, but that's not the route the writers went. Hopefully in ME:A they do a better job of writing politicians. All of them were either incompetent or self-interested scheming scumfucks in the original trilogy, with the exception of maybe Dominic Asoba, but only because he's only encountered very briefly. It was a bit much. The writers need to tone down the cynicism a tad.

Why should anyone have any remorse over Udina's death? He deserved to die at that point. I don't agree. Why couldn't he be shot in the arm, leg or shoulder to be questioned? He wasn't a villian. He was doing what he can to get help for Earth. He's looking out for his species. That's a noble cause. I would never of done it the way he did, but he did unfortunately.

He's like all politicians. He puts his ambitions ahead of the people who got him where he is. He loved Shepard when Shepard did great things but when unpopular ideas came up he was quick to turn on him. I had absolutely no problem with him dying. Like I said, would have done it myself except I wanted Kaidan to do it. Either way, that guy needed to die. No Shepard I played ever liked him. Also, I choose Anderson every time so you know I don't trust him.

I figured Shepard freaked out because "STEEEEEVE!" has the keys to the Normandy.
Do you know how hard it is to call an emergency locksmith out when you're stuck in the middle of a war zone? We can't use Traynor's toothbrush either, since it was broken the last time we got locked out.
We really should have gotten a set of spares made, rather than waste those credits on fancy fish we never feed.

It shows I care. Admittedly, I did give the space hamster more attention but he talked to me!

One of the worst moments in the trilogy for sure. Took me out of it completely right when I got into the intensity of the game. Having me scream Steeeeve! for a guy I don't care about and team crying out in most embarrasing ways, just too much. I take off my headset at that part
