^ Agreed. S1 is slow but watch every one even if it seems dull because there're sparks in the eps that will lead to bigger stuff later on.

The catch with S1 is that what seems unimportant and throw-away, can be Checkov's Gun. What seems important might only come back in a tangential detail. "No one here is exactly what he appears."
Is it worth watching? Abso-fragging-lutely.

I watched the first two eps and I felt that the acting was a little over-dramatic at times, especially from Sinclair. I know he doesn't stick around though I don't know the story reason behind it. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.

Despite the rudimentariness of the movies before hand they do explain a lot.

Placing that at the beginning of a re-watch, yes, but not necessarily for a first run through.

I tried searching for B5 threads before starting my own. The search came up with nothing but here's this thread! Anyone, mine has my own poll so it's all good.
So far undecided about this show but still willing to give it at least a season to decide.

So far undecided about this show but still willing to give it at least a season to decide. Having already forced coached a friend through it, I can say this: The buildup is slow but it is there. Season 1 is a lot of everyone finding their feet, getting into their roles while doing "thing of the week" almost "filler" episodes. That being said the hints of something greater keep coming up and the payoff will not disappoint. I'd say pay attention to: -Sinclair and his private moments. The actor Michael O'Hare was struggling through some issues but still managed to turn in a solid performance. -Delenn. Very little of what she does is filler. -the contrast between Londo and G'Kar. Key Episodes- these were the ones that really hooked me in: Mind War- besides introducing some of the most interesting and memorable aspects of the show, in my opinion, this episode for me represents everything B5 is thematically, and seems to almost speak to me directly regarding my beliefs in SF and reality as well. Signs and Portents- the hook of the major story arc begins here. Apart from that, there are some good character moments and admittedly a bit of filler and 90s sci-fi cheese. But the good, embraceable kind of cheese.

Babylon 5 is good 90s TV show, but it hasn't aged well in terms of CGI (it was bad in the 90s and most of the CGI looks like cutscenes from a bad PS1 game) and it in production design, and other shows mined and dealt with a lot of themes, subjects, and storylines much better Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Caprica, Farscape, Sense 8, Doctor Who, Torchwood, and it's own short-lived spin-off/sequel series Crusade just to name a few are better shows) and it's big final battle is huge disappointment.
If you haven't seen any of the other shows I mentioned then Babylon 5 is a great show but if you have you'll be wondering "what is the big deal with this show?" For a 90s sci-fi show it is a great show but other shows have pretty much did what JMS started and they ran with it and IMHO did it much better than he did on Babylon 5.
IMHO Babylon 5 is not even the best thing JMS ever wrote, that is Midnight Nation a woefully under-rated comic book series he wrote in 2000.
I know that Microsoft Movies and TV used to have the show and the TV movies (they might still have them) you can watch them on XB1, XB360, Windows PCs otherwise. You can buy them on DVD from Warner Bros' website or on Amazon. They generally go for $30 per season. The TV Movie set for $25, and the short-lived Crusade $10-20.
The last two TV movies the it's so bad it's kind of good, but still totally bat-shit crazy Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers and the boring as hell and just God-awful Babylon 5: The Untold Tales (the only good thing with the POS movie is that CGI isn't complete and total shit) maybe for $5-10 (and that is being very generous) per movie but I don't recommend either of them, unless you suffering from insomnia and/or just in a self-masochistic mood.

Shouldn't that be Bester's Gun for B5?
Anyway, I agree with the general sentiment here. B5 rules. I only got around to watching it around 2010 but even then, it was fantastic. Yes, the CGI is very early CGI work (I think B5 was the first tv show to use CGI instead of models for their space scenes) but once you get used to the "style", it's fine and the characters and story telling more than make up for it.

I'm sure I'll find out soon enough. Wont get into the story reason but I will tell you the actor left the show because of mental illness. I would have really liked to have seen a new miniseries or something else but sadly the actors that played Sinclair, The Doctor, and J'kar died.
The last season felt a bit rushed though. If you want more after the series then I guess you could check out Crusade. It was a spinoff but it only lasted one season.

I watched every Episode, every movie in German. When I was without a job, it was my routine to watch it while and before sleeping again. I gifted the whole stuff 2 my brother, who up until this day did not finish it So yeah, best series ever, and my faves are clear, Shep, and all that transpired around him oh and the backstory of the actors is rlly cray cray, y'know why the last commander had to leave the show, +sheesh+ but he got back with my 5th fave role. I freaking love Babylon 5.

Babylon 5, each season is going for a nice price at the moment. You can usually find the complete set for a decent price.
Space Above and Beyond.
Esp if you can get the 2nd for cheap. IE 40 bucks or less.

Besides, I have not a single device on which to view them.

Character: Londo - the dark, funny, tragic, operatic heart of Babylon 5.
Group: Earthforce - love their spaceships.
Race: Humanity - humans tend to be the good guys in sci-fi shows, but in B5 Earth was... not like that. Much more interesting!
Episode: Chrysalis - maybe there are better episodes down the line, but this was the moment B5 defined itself as a series. I had never seen anything like this in a sci-fi show - they basically blew up the status quo in a way there could be no going back from. "Nothing's the same anymore."
Oh, and purple, of course. Londo looks fabulous in that.
