I don't live in USoA so I had to ask a friend to record the eps (VHS at that time) and send them over. It's like receiving precious presents! The local tv station did air the B5 series but they're behind by several months, I couldn't wait that long! I really appreciate the time and effort she made and tried to make it up to her.

Okay, now seeing another thing that seems Mass Effect-related. Mind you, I'm loving this series on its own terms but I love seeing how great the influence of it is on Mass Effect. Since some people think I'm spoiler things without tags, I'll put it under them. There seems to be some for of indoctrination by the Shadows. The Shadows themselves almost seem like Reapers. Can't wait to watch this series through, though I'm told the movies that follow the series are kind of necessary. Not sure Amazon Prime has them.

The movies are In the Beginning: Which is about the Earth-Minbari War that started all this. Probably best to watch after season 4 (when it was made) since it may spoil some revelations about the events that are SHOCKING to the characters. Thirdspace: Set around midway through Season 4 The River of Souls: Set shortly after Season 5 A Call to Arms: Set around five years after The River of Souls and kicked off Crusade, which never really took off and was cancelled after one season.

First, I apologize for started another thread on Babylon 5. I couldn't find the other one. Mods can feel free to merge this with that other one. CrutchCricket
I'm well into the second season of B5. Interesting what they found on Mars, which is reminiscent of Mass Effect 3. Also, Cerberus having its claws in everything (true from the beginning, IIRC, or maybe not until ME2) sounds like what's going on in Earth's government. Plus, you could never be quite sure who was indoctrinated, kind of like the Nightwatch. These don't line up perfectly but there are some interesting similarities.
The search can be a little wonky. I've had some successes using the advanced search. If you click the search button before typing anything in, you'll get a popup with a few filters. Might help narrow things down. Right now searching "babylon" no filters did show this thread, and about two pages worth of results (I also tended to name-drop the show or reference it just about anywhere so that might account for some of the results ) Anyway, we're all set now. This thread isn't always on the front page, but I believe you have options to keep track of it. If you go to the op, and click actions you should have a bookmark option. I just tried it and that created a new option on the navbar for me where I could see my bookmarks. So you could use that to keep track of your favorite threads. The more you know Also Cerberus are amateur hacks, and also puppy dogs, next to the Psi Corps and Bureau 13/ the Clark regime. It's embarrassing, really. There are a lot of simularities between B5 and ME. It is what originally put me off playing ME actually. But... why? *puts on best CrutchCricket impression* I did it! I think. I went through lots of menus and pressed things....and the thread hasn't melted so I think I did it? Yay. Wait that didn't sound like Crutch at all.... You'd be surprised... Yeah, it's rough when I have to stop for things like sleep and work. About 10 years ago I binged through all 5 seasons during the week between Christmas and New Years. It was awesome! (had the week off from work that year, the only time we've been closed that week since I've worked there) That's how I did it the first time I watched it, three years ago! What a memorable holiday. I also watched The Prisoner for the first time during that time. Tis the season for mindfuckery (and awesomeness) Okay, now seeing another thing that seems Mass Effect-related. Mind you, I'm loving this series on its own terms but I love seeing how great the influence of it is on Mass Effect. Since some people think I'm spoiler things without tags, I'll put it under them. Can't wait to watch this series through, though I'm told the movies that follow the series are kind of necessary. Not sure Amazon Prime has them. Ehh. Not really. I can argue that the Shadows would really, really hate the Reapers, thought the aesthetic and methods are obviously inspired. Wait until you finish the series, and then we can talk.

EarthGov? Well, it's been in any number of media but the oldest I know of is Adventure Comics #247 (April, 1958) which was the first story of the Legion of Super-Heroes. Interlac? Adventure Comics #379 (April, 1969), written form in Legion of Super-Heroes v2 #312 (June, 1984). Seems like B5 had its own influences just as it had a large influence on Mass Effect.

I'd have to re-watch, but I believe JMS' commentary on that episode explicitly mentions A Canticle for Leibowitz as inspiration.

It sounds cheesy, I don't know what to make of it. What caught my eye is the "B5 actors". The general Haig line is a fav. I didn't realise the Minbari Sharlin warcruiser is so big.

I'm currently at a dead stop with B5. Once the war ended and Sheridan became...something...it just hasn't had the same feel to it. Is there more to come that will knock my socks off?
