Let me clarify: I played bioware games before (DA series) on pcand just wanted to know if I would be lost lore wise on ME: Andromeda.

Greetings, I haven't really played much of mass effect (me1) on Xbox 360, for 2 hrs. Should I go through the first 3 on my gaming PC, or buy andromeda? If you like space sci-fi games with lots of choices, dialogue, lore to read mixed with action and a rpg like level up system then go for it.

A no brainer. The first in particular is better on PC.

Let me clarify: I played bioware games before (DA series) on pcand just wanted to know if I would be lost lore wise on ME: Andromeda. As others have said, Andromeda is essentially a reboot so you should theoretically be able to follow it along without playing ME2/3. However, given the in-depth lore of the series, I'm sure you'd have more context to certain things if you did go back and play 2/3. I imagine BioWare will do what they can to make backstory unnecessary for newcomers and similar. Really depends on if you would prefer to have more context. The original trilogy is definitely worth it for its own merits, but they can wait.

I really doubt you'd be lost lore-wise if you didn't play the Trilogy before starting Andromeda. Bioware will no doubt fill in the Codex with anything really important for you to know. There is also a series of books planned for those who want to delve deeper into the story than what will be just provided in the game.

Let me clarify: I played bioware games before (DA series) on pcand just wanted to know if I would be lost lore wise on ME: Andromeda. Well, if someone asked you if they should play DAO and DA2 or just get DAI, what would you tell them? Do you really need to know about Blights and Grey Wardens and Templars and Hawke in order to play DAI? Probably not. Does knowing about those things enhance the experience? Probably. And they're just fun games in and of themselves, so even without adding backstory and lore they're worth experiencing (although they may break you... temporarily).

I'd just suggest playing Andromeda first and then playing trilogy if you like it. Andromeda is basically a reboot far in the future, far away from the same galaxy that ME 1-3 took place in. None of your saved games will transfer to Andromeda. Andromeda is designed to be a jumping on point for new players so don't feel obligated to play the trilogy for the backstory.
I do agree with the DAI analogy -- why start there when you can go back to Origins and see how it all began? Each game is still building on the previous game with saves and world states carrying forward. It's all connected. With Andromeda, it's a clean break.

I absolutely love the Mass Effect series. I love Mass Effect 1 and adore the Mako. I even enjoy the jenky gameplay (except against the Asari Commando Unit). The entire trilogy is well worth the money and time put into it. I've played through the entire trilogy at least 6 times, probably more, and put over 400 hours into the multiplayer (small potatoes compared to many of the veterans, but still shows how much I enjoyed it). The story is fantastic, the DLC well worth it. I didn't even hate the ME3 endings as some others apparently have. I actually found them very fitting. But even for those who disliked them, I think many would agree that the other 100 hours of single player story and replay-ability are well worth it. Honestly, it's the best game series I have ever played, and has had a tremendous impact in my life.

Yes you should buy the trilogy (there's a package that has all 3 and some dlc) if you enjoy ME1. Just watch some youtube vids to get a feel for the game. If you like it go for it. Keep in mind that ME2 and ME3 come with most of the big dlc not included in the trilogy package and these dlc will ammount to ~100$ (or something like that... I think 45$ for ME2 for example... can't really remember).

I don't think you'll find anyone here, telling you not to play the original trilogy. Even people who are still salty about ME3's ending (like me) will tell you to play all three. (Also, it's not like there are too many options out there for Sci-Fi RPGs.)
As to whether you need to play (or read?) anything before picking up MEA, I think the answer is no, as many others have already stated; that's because this is pretty much a reboot.

Seeing how the cost of the Trilogy for PC is $15 more often than not, and that it's still 2+ months till Andromeda release, it's a no brainer. Unless you are playing something else you just can't tear yourself away from.
