Giovanna Shepard, Paragon Vanguard, ME2, finally finished recruiting all suggested team members on the dossiers provided by TIM. The end result was an assortment of vigilantes and criminals, biotic experiments, a mad scientist, one ex-Alliance, one test tube krogan, one merc, and Tali. Surprisingly, given Cerberus' human-centric reputation, most of the them were not human. To his credit, TIM focused on those with the skills and knowledge needed to take on the Collectors - whoever they were - rather than on those who fit Cerberus' ideology. After recruitment, Giovanna found herself having to deal with special issues each of these individuals carried with them. Though dealing with these issues took time, they did allow Giovanna to build ties of loyalty with each of them...or at least it allowed her to see what made these people tick.
All of them were surprises; most were positive. Thane, the Drell assassin, proved to be something more than a cold-blooded killer. Dr. Solus, a salarian scientist - formerly with the STG - who had worked on the genophage and who vigorously defended his work, showed signs of conscience when faced with the results of that work on Tuchanka. Miranda Lawson, a greatly augmented biotic who ran Project Lazarus for TIM and who appeared to fit the cold-blooded Cerberus stereotype showed a softer side when she asked Giovanna's aid in protecting her younger twin sister from her father. OTOH, Giovanna found veteran merc Zaeed Massani something of a loose cannon willing to tolerate "collateral damage" in pursuit of his vendetta against the leader of the Blue Suns mercenaries, Vido Santiago, much like Saren had on his mission with Anderson. Jack, a rather volatile enhanced biotic who was the subject of a Cerberus program gone awry - as with most Cerberus projects - and who had legitimate gripes - seems unable to put the mission against the Collectors ahead of her personal war against Cerberus. Oh well...
TIM advised Giovanna that the next step was to pull an IFF off of a Reaper corpse. This would be necessary to utilize the Omega 4 relay to go into dark space. Before she would do that, however, Giovanna had some other business to take care of, including seeing if she could entice her old friend, Liara, to join the team, with the incentive of Cerberus intel on her enemy, the Shadow Broker.

"Are you done with your lunch?" "Yeah, you can have the rest if you want. I see how you look at that pudding." "How very kind of you. So tell me... how exactly did you end up taking back Rannoch?" "Through multiple events involving sheer luck, the help of a geth and a lot of firepower." "Luck and firepower I understand. But... a geth helped you?! Okay, so let's hear that." "Our first stop was a geth dreadnought. It was the source of a Reaper signal that had been broadcasted to the geth and made them a lot more dangerous. I boarded the ship with Tali and Kaidan and we fought our way through some geth, but it wasn't long before we found the origin of this signal. It was a geth, hooked up to Reaper tech. Like the geth on the derelict Reaper, it knew my name. And it offered help if we freed it." "Well that doesn't sound suspicious at all." "I know, mom. I didn't trust it, but we freed it anyway. And it was good we did. Cutting the signal made the geth weaker and would've given the quarians a chance to retreat. If this damn Admiral Gerrel hadn't targeted the dreadnought instead." "With you still inside?!" "Yeah. That geth saved our asses. It got us out in time in one of their fighters." "I see. So it really wanted to help?" "Not necessarily. I think it just wanted to build up trust to make me more sympathetic towards them, but after everything I had experienced with the geth, trust was a little hard to come by. I did try to give it the benefit of doubt at first, so all I could do was stay alert and accept the help along the way. The geth also notified us of a server on Rannoch that controlled some geth fighter squadrons. We shut it down to weaken the geth further." "I don't understand... Why would it help take down its own?" "Because it actually didn't. Without me knowing, it transfered the programs from the server to other geth platforms. That's when it lost any chance of trust from me. That was dangerous as hell." "Dangerous how?" "Because it didn't know what would happen. Said it 'judged' that the programs would support us and not the Reapers. If those things had turned hostile, we'd have died right there." "I see. That's something to be concerned about." "After that we launched a rescue for Admiral Koris, who had crash-landed on Rannoch because he had sacrificed his ship to take down the geth's planetary defense cannon. We needed him to lead the civilian fleet, and if there was ever a chance to make peace with the geth, he was it." "But that never happened." "No, it didn't. We had one more thing to do on Rannoch, and that was shutting down the Reaper base located there, still sending a signal and providing the geth with Reaper upgrades. But it wasn't just a base, it was an actual Reaper." "Oh my. Oh wait... this was the Reaper you took down on foot!? Hackett told me about that!" "Yeah, it was. So you already know how it went down. That we had this amazing targeting laser from Admiral Xen and synced it up to the whole quarian fleet for an orbital strike against the Reaper?" "Yes, that sounds familiar. Jesus. Jesse, that was so dangerous." "Mom, I was in constant danger. Nothing during this time was safe." "I know, honey... still, when I heard it I honestly couldn't believe you did that. And actually managed to really take this thing down. Above all I was so proud of you." "It was a start, but we weren't done. The geth suggested to upload the Reaper code it still carried inside to the other geth so they'd become true intelligences, in exchange for their help. But they'd still be as smart and effective as when they were hooked up to the Reaper's signal. I couldn't agree to that, I just couldn't. Too many unknowns, way too dangerous. No one could guarantee they'd stay on our side even if we did reach a truce between them and the quarians." "I guess it didn't simply accept that?" "No. It attacked me. Tali saved my life by stabbing it in the back. It shut down after I shot it, and the geth fleet got ripped apart by the quarians." "I see. Makes you wonder if peace would've actually ever been possible... So what happened to the quarians? They had their homeworld back." "That they did. Well Tali stayed on the Normandy with me, while a lot of her people stayed on Rannoch to start their new life there and get things going. I got plenty of support for the war effort as well." "And... will Tali ever go back to Rannoch?" "Um, yeah. She and I actually... I want to build her a home there." "Oh! I..." "You're welcome to visit any time you want." "I just wanted to say... I'm happy for you. You two deserve this." "Thanks, mom. And the offer still stands." "I will make good use of it. So, what happened next?" "Let me think..." Piiics: All this happened over the past week And now I can finally do some more side missions and especially pick up Javik! I miss his trolling already. Combat-wise it went fine except one death during Koris's mission. My reaction time too dodge was as fast as a snail Other than that it went fine, but now I think about whether I shouldn't finally switch over to Overload instead of Tech Armor. Why can't it be like in ME2

Did the geth dreadnought mission, again, for testing purposes. Two considerations. The two interrupts in the aftermath battle after Shepard returns to the Normandy, confronting Han'Garrel and Xen, are terrible implemented. When confronting TIM at the citadel you have another two that flow much better in the conversation. You can convince TIM through your reputation and if it works, there isn't need of the interrupts. If it doesn't work then you have the chance to take action, which are the purpose of the interrupts, isn't? Also, look what I have at my docking bay... I will repeat myself again: the quarians are asking for it.

What makes it great is Harbinger. ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL. My Shepard likes him talking smack to her LOL, same. Sometimes I reloaded the Collector battles after beating them and ran around with tactical cloak hiding from Harbinger to see if I could get more of the smack. It's so weird how he says the same stuff over and over, and then will randomly and rarely say something different. I think I got "Neutralize Commander Shepard" once, and "I know you feel this" like 100000000000 times. Is there a trick to get him to say some of rarer stuff on the battle quotes list? masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Harbinger_(Collector)/Battle_Quotes

I think now's the time when I can say that I've really fallen in love with the franchise.
Simply put: Mass Effect 2 is phenomenal. It's so full of exciting content! With basically 80% of missions being about your companions, it really makes you care about them. The first two times around, I didn't really give all of them a chance. But this time, I'm making sure that I talk to everyone, and there's just so much to be explored! I'm amazed. Some of the loyalty missions are scintillating, especially those where the focus is not on fighting. Samara's and Thane's missions are some of the best moments in the game, I think.
And it's astonishing to find out there's so much to like about the crew. What felt like a pretty mediocre collection of people during my first and second PTs is now becoming like a bunch of good friends. I really, really love Mordin - he's such a hero, always giving his best while also bravely confronting the dirty consequences of his actions. And he cares so much about Shepard. And Thane, he's a treasure And of course Garrus, Shepard's best pal (or LI) who just sticks with them no matter what. Even people like Samara and Jacob, who bore me before, have become more multidimensional after I've put in some effort to spend time with them. I've kinda started to see why people love Shepard's crew so much.
I never really expected to say this, either, but I'm completely changing my opinion of (female) Shepard, as well. Before, I always felt that she was a bit boring and too much of a no-nonsense soldier, but now I'm starting to warm up to her. She's got this amusing, deadpan style of dealing with things As I get older, I'm getting less and less interested in roleplaying and more and more interested in playing the role of a predetermined character. And it's pretty sweet to put myself in the boots of someone I'll never be and whom I would never create myself: a total badass soldier who makes everything explode on the way to saving the galaxy
And as a bonus, it's fun to compare the attitude of the renegade Shep to the aggressive Hawke:
Shepard: I'm fighting my ass off to save the galaxy, so if you don't cut the bullshit, I'm gonna take this bottle of Serrice Ice Brandy and smash it on your head! Hawke: If you don't get out of my way, I think I'll tie you up, pour myself a glass of good wine and slowly disembowel you while enjoying the sweet tasting notes of this [insert Orlesian equivalent of Zinfandel]. And then I'll do the same to everyone you love. The choice is yours
Anyway, later today I'm gonna finish the loyalty missions of Tali, Jack and Zaeed, and then head out for the derelict Reaper. Can't wait what I'll discover in ME3 when I get there. My first MET playthrough was pretty minimalistic - a mistake, it seems.
Nothing will ever best Dragon Age 2, but Mass Effect 2 is seriously challenging DAI as my second-favourite BW title.
I just replayed ME 2 for the first time 5 years and I loved it more than I even thought I would, to the point that it's now (with all DLC included) definitely my favorite game of all time. All of the characters and your interactions with them are just so....rewarding? The conversations were so well written compared to other installments and the loyalty missions all felt significant and important to the characters. And all the interrupts (especially the renegade interrupts, except for maybe punching the reporter) in that game are so satisfying. I've only played a femShep -- maybe I love her so much as a video game character because I share her "deadpan style" of dealing with things IRL. It's interesting because I've always felt that maleShep was the boring one because he reminded me of so many action male action heroes I'd already encountered, and femShep is more of a rarity as far as action/sci-fi main heroes go (not just because she's a woman, but because of the kind of woman you can play her as, especially if you go full renegade on that shit). After I finish with replaying ME3 (which I am also loving a lot, enjoying more than ME1, which I didn't expect because it is so linear), I will replay DA and I am most looking forward to #2, which everyone but a few (like you) seems to find the weakest -- I just remember liking aggressive + sarcastic Hawke as well, as well as Fenris and Anders, who became two of my favorite characters in that franchise. I guess I like the angsty ones.

Melody Shepard, Colonist/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator, ME3 Insanity: Admiral Koris' ship had gone down on Rannoch's surface following an otherwise-successful mission to destroy a planetary defence cannon under the control of Reaper-aligned geth. Without his leadership, Civilian Fleet captains were panicking; some of them were planning a suicide run to the mass relay in a vain attempt to flee the war. Melody, Tali and James mounted a rescue mission. Koris' location was impossible to determine due to radio frequencies being jammed by the geth; and the jamming tower was defended by anti-aircraft cannons. The trio made their way to the three cannons in turn, neutralizing the geth infantry on patrol. Melody assigned Tali to disable the cannons, her knowledge of geth systems proving invaluable. The squad found the bodies of some of Koris' crew as they proceeded through the area. They found a lone survivor, maintenance tech Dorn'Hazt, but he had lost too much blood for medi-gel treatment to be effective. Tali bestowed the ship name "vas Rannoch" on him posthumously. With the AA guns offline, Cortez had a clear shot at the jamming tower from the Kodiak. Admiral Koris pleaded with Melody to rescue his crew rather than him; she yelled at him until he agreed that he was vital to the Civilian Fleet. With the admiral secured, the shuttle made best speed back to the Normandy. EMS after this mission: 1524 (checked twice). (I had forgotten that the background music accompanying this mission is a reprise of Tali's BGM from ME2. Two embarrassing deaths, both in the final combat sequence, both due to that bosh'tet Prime. I thought I was in cover, but I was not in cover ) Melody overheard Tali and Admiral Xen arguing over the fate of some quarians who had been forced to evacuate a stricken vessel. Melody sided with Tali, urging Xen to divert ships from her salvage team to rescue the evacuees. Joker and EDI discussed the quarians' strategy to arm their liveships. EDI noted that it just turned them into targets. Garrus received a static-corrupted transmission from his father, attempting to evacuate from Palaven. Despite krogan reinforcements, the situation there didn't sound promising; it was serious enough to coax the usually-agnostic Garrus into praying. Pics and video... Checking her weapon. Take a moment, this is a big deal: Farewell, brave pioneer: The pitiless calculus of war again: This happens to me in multiplayer with embarrassing regularity: A few combat scenes (embarrassing deaths edited out, obviously). Watch as I fail to hit anything with a gun turret, and stand around oblivious to the rocket trooper a few feet behind me. I'm playing a more static, cover-based game here than I'd like, which I'm blaming on the Prime siege pulses and trolldrones all over the place.

I've been sidetracked by The Technomancer, and a MUD I used to play years ago. Anyway, I created Jeph Shepard for ME1 (Spacer/Butcher of Torfan), giving him a custom appearance that I think is decent. However, I still have to close out Ioan Shepard's story in ME3. Plan to get on that tonight. That's all I've done in ME lately but will get back to it.

More Kathrine today. Off the record she finished Miranda's loyalty mission and had enough renegade points to keep Jack's loyalty. Then she went clubbing for Samara. Beat up three Turians and helped a reporter to draw Mornith's attention. And amazingly, she had enough Paragon points to keep her wits about her when things got hot and heavy in her apartment. Which was good. Not like I had this big head canon of Samara swooping in to rescue her or anything.
She started this session with checking on Garrus and accepting his quests since Kelly requested it at least three times already. On the way to meet Fade she saw Joram Talid advertisement on the wall and realized that Mark Meer might have voiced the Turian who sells spices on the Citadel. Spicy! Mission went fairly decently. Mech brothers were a bit of a hassle, but nothing the good old Arc Projector couldn't handle. Since she was on the Citadel she decided to visit Councillor Anderson. Sadly the council was also there being all disappointed. She's dating Cerebus now Council, you just don't understand it! But Kathrine was polite enough to keep her Spectre status, because of benefits. She also talked trash to Udina. Another mission to cross off because she was in the area was Kasumi's loyalty mission. So she donned a tiny black dress and went to kick butt. Went well, even the gunship bit. Checked her email after that. Michel has not been paying attention, since she thought that Mall cop had nearly died in the destruction of the Normandy. He wasn't even near it. Also checked on Samara and Kathrine is on the talk where they nearly kiss. Kathrine is really pushy in it. Debating whether to go through with it now or flirt with someone else first.
Saw a new dialog option with Mordin about what to do with Maelon when he first brings up the quest. "Let him rot". I think Kathrine is getting how this play through is rolling. Did not let him rot, but he got shot, so that's something. Also toasted a lot of Krogan, love how incinerate just eats the armor up.
Ended the session by going to pick up Tali. Am currently stuck on the Colossus. Too many Geth on the dance floor and I just can't.

I think I'd go so far as to say that this one is the odd one out among the interrupts, even though it's still a really cool one Interrupts sure build up your reputation, but every time you use them Shepard takes some form of action. Is different than using only your reputation and choosing paragon/renegade to reply or convince someone. I tried this at one playthrough, didn't used a single interrupt during the entire game. In the final confrontation with TIM I had reputation to stop him, but some people hadn't. So you are forced to use the interrupt. And there's go the player choice down the drain one more time in a endless of times during ME3. Thessia's mission beginning and end are a POS because of this. Ok, I know we don't have REAL choice in the game, but at least maintain the illusion like in ME1 and ME2, would you. Now that we are talking about this... I have an idea! I will make a ending mod. Yes, another one! But this time is to change this. Yes, the whole scene of TIM threatening Shepard and he or she doing nothing is stupid, but bare with me. If you let TIM shot you, instead of the fail screen you will have the Liara time capsule scene, meaning the reapers won the war! Yes, you will still be forced to shot TIM, but this time if you didn't at least you have a consequence. Cerberus lovers even can argue they didn't shot TIM because they love him or he got it right. And I'll even save you the painfull conversation with the catalyst.

From the Journal of Ioan Shepard:
- Citadel, Silversun Strip: Invited Tali over to the apartment. She insisted we watch some romantic vid called "Fleet and Flotilla" about a star-crossed turian and quarian lovers. Tali thought the movie was amazing. I...was skeptical of that claim. And that's after I watched it. - Then Liara stopped by. She knew how to play the piano and taught me a song she'd learned from another archaeologist on one of her first digs. - Kolyat wanted to hold the memorial services for Thane at the apartment. I thought it was a good idea. In attendance were the salarian councilor, EDI, Garrus, Tali, Joker, Samara and Bailey. They all had fond memories of him. Kolyat had recovered some messages Thane had tried to send me while I was locked up on Earth. He was persistent. It didn't seem like he understood that I had no communications access. - Met up with Jacob at Castle Arcade. He wanted me to play a game with him to entertain some kids who were temporarily in his care. I understood that these kids were looking up to him. As he had said, the kids already idolized me, so it didn't matter if I lost. He won fair and square but assumed I threw the game. I'm good at a lot of things but I haven't spent a lot of time playing games like Shattered Eezo. - Ran into Wrex at the casino. He was tired. Bakara was really pushing for him to reproduce, not just with her but other krogan females. He even had to put a bag of ice down his pants to cool his "quad". They sure weren't wasting any time rebuilding their population. Plus side, this means any krogan who die in the war will have plenty to replace them. Not that I want them to do, but their race will continue to thrive. - Had a chat with a C-Sec officer about Grunt. He got into a little trouble. I paid for it out of my pocket. Still, it was worthwhile. It's like watching a teenage son sowing his seeds. I was a little jealous. - Samara came by for a visit. We had said goodbye already but Samara did drop me a message. We admired the view out the windows. I had also found old comics detailing her exploits, though Samara said they were somewhat exaggerated. - Then Jack came by with her pet varren, which happened to also be biotic. Turns out biotic varren are unusually cranky and are abused for it. She named it Eezo. It was another chance for her to care for something so I was all for it. - Invited Cortez and Vega over to watch a biotiball. It was the Human Sorcerers versus Asari Maestros. Cortez was for the Sorcerers and Vega for the Maestros. They wanted to know who I supported but I always went with the home team. They actually had a bet as to whether or not I'd pick the winner. I did and I guess that made Cortez some money. - Traynor wanted to make up for the lunch we didn't have so I invited her to stop by. She gave herself a tour and was excited to find the hot tub. I told her to go ahead and use it. She let me know she was allergic to everything in the galaxy and had to take all kinds of medications for it. Turned out that one of her meds was nothing more than a sugar pill and I was doubting she really had these allergies. - One more trip to the casino for a night out with Miranda. Never saw her dressed quite so girly with the slinky red dress. Quite attractive. Played some games, got a little drunk. Hard to believe that not too long ago I would have preferred to throw her out the airlock. Now I considered her to be a good friend. Glad we sorted everything out. It didn't hurt that she gave her resignation to TIM while we were still planting a bomb at the Collector Base. I actually got to see her laugh. - I'd seen everyone I needed to see. Now it was time to have that promised party. Though I'd told Joker to hold back on the open invites, the truth was that I wanted everyone here. The people who couldn't be: Jenkins, Ash, Pressly, Mordin, Thane, Legion - even Anderson, who was holding the line on Earth. They'd be remembered. I'd toast to them all. - I wanted to start things out quiet, if only to remember part of the evening. Though even Kaidan said he wouldn't mind it things got a little more exciting. So I turned up the music. - Grunt did a great job playing bouncer. My party was the talk of the Citadel and everyone wanted in. But this was private. No civilians. I also had to weigh in on biotics versus muscle. As someone who was the best with both, I still sided with biotics. The amount of control it took to effectively use them was outstanding, and combining them with physical fitness even better. Hence, my love of biotic charge. Vega tried to put down Kaidan for L2 implants but Kaidan pointed out how he could now use Reave. Liara and Jacob were surprised but it just went to show that even with the "crippled" implant he could still go further than most. No surprise, I sided with my kind. I found EDI questioning Traynor about her attraction to EDI's voice. Tali found it awkward to listen to. Jack and Miranda were sniping at each other but pretending otherwise. When I suggested it was all sexual tension and they should just kiss and get it over with, they get incredibly embarrassed. Kasumi offering to record it made it worse but stopped the bickering. - Then I told Glyph to give us some dancing music. I had to do some convincing to get Joker dancing with EDI. Not sure why. Saw him do it at Purgatory. Probably just not drunk enough. He laughed when I said I'd dance with her but caved in the end. I got to watch Liara levitate James off the ground. Not only did he like it but he was convinced about the power of biotics. Kaidan wanted to take things a little further but I said I needed the crew intact. Found Grunt passed out in the shower. Then I did a little dancing with Jack, Samara, Garrus, Tali, Cortez and Traynor. - Lastly, we took a group photo near the couch. No matter what happened, I'd cherish this memory. - In the morning, I woke up next to Kaidan. Before I went to check on the others, I found a datapad. It was from Mordin, apparently snuck in by STG some time during the night. He thought he might not survive and left some of his musical performances. I was grateful to have it, something to remember him by. Not that every krogan child born wouldn't be a reminder of his life. Javik was hung over and delusional. Garrus was fine, Liara was feeling it, and Samara was meditating. Tali was hurting bad, at least in part because she had eaten the wrong food, multiple times over. Toxins + intoxication was a bad combination. Jacob and Jack were exercising, as though nothing had happened last night. Jack said her overcharged biotic amp had something to do with her lack of hangover. I'd have to look into it. Grunt was in pain from headbutting Wrex. Miranda was fine, Kaidan enjoyed the evening and James was cooking eggs for everyone. EDI couldn't get a hangover but she still had bad jokes to tell. Cortez and Zaeed seemed fine. Wrex was happy. Joker was in sad shape. Traynor was convinced she must have done something embarrassing that would have been recorded and posted to the extranet. - Then it was time to head back to the Normandy. All repairs had been made. We convened on Docking Bay D24. Kaidan and I exchanged a few words, happy for the time we'd had together, expressing belief that I'd find a way to win. Then we finally went back to the Normandy, back to the war. - Normandy: Hackett ordered us to Cronos Station, since all intel said we'd find that Catalyst, that last piece of the Crucible puzzle. It would draw the attention of the Reapers but we had no choice. I couldn't sleep and kept going over reports. That's when Kaidan showed up, five minutes and a quick drink. I tried to resist but he wasn't having it. There was also no "five minutes". As soon as we kissed I knew I wasn't spending the night alone. Plus, he reminded me how "spectacular" the sex had been back aboard the SR1. Unfortunately, I did have another nightmare. One last time chasing after the kid. All the dead were there, even Legion. When I caught up to him, he ran into the arms of...me. Then, together, they went up in flames. When he awoke, Kaidan gave me what comfort he could, by telling him I'd done all I could and that I had a competent team with me. - EDI insisted she come to Cronos Station since she had knowledge of Cerberus algorithms and the mech body had updated protocols. This was the central base of operations. I agreed. Joker didn't like it. I understood that, being separated, which was why I was bringing Kaidan. - Cronos Station: We boarded the station and were immediately greeted by Cerberus forces. They tried to vent the shuttle bay but EDI was able to prevent it from happening. Proved her worth there already. They tried to launch a fighter at us but we were able to turn it around and fire it at the interior wall, granting us access. [To be continued...]

Man, I was re-reading the beta version of the leaked script from ME3 and Bioware was really planning to let us dispose the VS with style. For the maniacal homicidal that lure inside of us, that is. "I want you to know something, Ash. I've never felt about Liara the same way I feel about you". "That's... that's got to be the nicest thing I've ever heard you s--". {Ashley relaxes a fraction as she's talking and Shepard shoots her in the head. Shepard turns to Udina, who is backing away}. Or we could be cruel. "You haven't changed, Ash. You're still that girl who got her squad killed by geth on Eden Prime", when you are trying to convince her to stand down using the renegade option. On the other hand Kaydan would be the same dolt of always. Shepard! You can't do this, Shepard! It's punishable by death! {Shepard shoots him in the chest.} We could even tell juvenile things to Udina that I've always wanted to say in past games. "Be careful who you paint with that brush, Udina. You might find it shoved somewhere uncomfortable", replying when accusing Shepard still being part of Cerberus. The scene is different, but for those asking the plot is the same: Udina tried a coup, Shepard chase him, confrontation with the VS and Udina dead. So don't get mad.

Melody Shepard, Colonist/Sole Survivor/Infiltrator, ME3 Insanity: The mission plan for the liberation of Rannoch involved sending a ground team to paint the Reaper installation with a targeting laser, enabling the Normandy to make a precision strike. Melody and Tali took a shuttle to the surface, along with Garrus as backup, and Legion who would be responsible for disabling security and procuring an escape vehicle. Legion confessed to possessing a copy of the Reaper upgrade code, enhancing its intelligence and ensuring that it would be able to hack the security. It had proven itself trustworthy on several occasions, so Melody did not challenge its decision. As the Normandy squad began their infiltration, Melody kept her hardsuit's radio tuned to quarian frequencies, monitoring the fleet battle raging high above them. She was pleased to hear the admirals working effectively together. The Reaper installation was heavily defended by Reaper-controlled geth infantry, but the team made steady progress and did not encounter any real difficulty; not even being triple-teamed by Primes was able to stop them. (No player deaths, pleasingly). In a quiet moment, Garrus expressed scepticism about Legion's decision to self-augment with the Reaper upgrades. Tali spoke in its favour, convinced that it was genuinely an ally. Melody privately recalled Tali's standoff with Legion following the destruction of Heretic Station, proud that the young quarian had overcome her mistrust and was able to willingly fight alongside their synthetic ally. As the Normandy unleashed its bombs, the Reaper installation literally sprung into life: it proved to be an actual Reaper. Determining that the iris of its main gun was the weak spot, Melody aimed the targeting laser at it (took me a few attempts as I expected it would). The full force of the Normandy and the quarian Heavy Fleet was unleashed. As the Reaper lay dying, it babbled something about the harvest being salvation for organics; that the cycle was necessary; and that organics and synthetics could never coexist. With the Reaper destroyed, the augmented geth were dead in space, no longer receiving instructions from their former master. Fearing that the Heavy Fleet would obliterate them, Legion proposed uploading its copy of the augmentation code into the consensus, upgrading the geth into true individuals, able to choose peaceful coexistence with the quarians. Melody instructed it to proceed, advising Tali to convince Gerrel to cease fire so that the geth no longer perceived their Creators as a threat. However, Gerrel declined to take instruction from a mere exile. Melody got on the comm and yelled at him, warning him that if he didn't stand down, the consequences would be catastrophic... ...and, amazingly, he complied. As the quarian fleet stood down, Legion completed the upgrade by disseminating its own 1,183 runtimes throughout the consensus. The last thing it heard was Creator Zorah affirmatively answering the question that started the Morning War. Sensing no hostility from the Migrant Fleet, the upgraded geth also stood down, bringing a three-century conflict to a peaceful conclusion. The squad returned to the Normandy, leaving Admiral Shala'Raan vas Rannoch conversing with some Primes about the best place for a settlement. Melody allowed herself a moment of satisfaction; after betraying the krogan, she had feared for what this war was forcing her to become. The events on Rannoch gave her some hope for the galaxy's future, and for her own conscience. Current EMS: 2149. (Well, this did not go as I expected. I didn't think it was possible for peace to be brokered if Tali was exiled, so I was fully anticipating that Melody would end up shooting Legion to save the quarians. I'm pleased that things worked out rather better; it's made me happier about the direction this playthrough is going, actually). Lots of pics (fitting, given that this has turned out to be an unexpected highlight of this playthrough) and video: Disappointed Melody... ...and disappointed Legion. You're part of history. Melody's omni-tool needs servicing. Character growth (1/2). Nonchalant reload while Prime goes boom. Do as she says, Gerrel. You don't want Melody to yell at you... ...fine, have it your way. A rare smile. Character growth (2/2). Well, a CLAYMOAR can be pretty persuasive. Of course you can help! Grab your gear. The landscape? Yes, it is. The broken Reaper? Not so much. It's the Paragade way. Once again, I failed to notice this until EDI pointed it out. Legion's name added to the cenotaph. All's well that ends well. Lots of pewpew footage, combat in this mission is very much fun and almost relaxing (the Reaper fight aside). Watch as I repeatedly try to shoot a Prime through thick cover. (That would have worked in multiplayer because I'd have had drill ammo).

"Hm, I think around that time... yes. We headed for Eden Prime next. Cerberus had gotten their hands on a prothean artifact and we went in to retrieve it. It was not the kind of artifact I expected. It was a pod with an actual Prothean in it. Alive." "Oh, right. I heard. He was this Javik guy, wasn't he?" "Yes. A tiny wonder he survived in a pod for 50,000 years. Amazing, really. And we were lucky Cerberus hadn't managed to open his pod yet. You should've seen what they had done to the colony, ma. Bastards." "But you drove them away, didn't you? And you had a new team member. What was he like?" "Different than I had imagined. Quite ruthless. But the more I talked to him, the more I understood why he is that way. The only thing he ever knew was war. He was born into the Reaper mess of their cycle and saw the end of his people... hard to imagine what that feels like." "Yes. Sounds absolutely terrifying. What became of him?" "In London he told me he had plans to write a book with Liara." "Oh really?" "Yeah. And I'm glad he found something else to focus on after the war. See a time of peace..." "It's a good thing he has this chance. I hope he finds comfort in it." "Me, too. Well, after this we headed to Tuchanka again. I still hadn't investigated the crashed turian ship, but I wanted to keep my promise to the primarch. On the way, we stopped some more Cerberus activity. They were too wide-spread for my liking and we had to do something about them. They were present on Tuchanka too, but not for long. Then we headed for the crash site, and we learned that the turian platoon that went down with the ship was commanded by none other than the primarch's son." "No way. So that's why he asked you to investigate?" "Well, not exactly... when we reached Victus and his men, he told me what they actually were doing on Tuchanka." "Hm, yes, turians there sounds strange." "They were on a mission to stop a bomb from exploding in the Kelphic Valley. Cerberus had dug it out." "Oh my, them again..." "But the thing is, it wasn't actually their bomb. The turians had placed it there centuries ago as a safeguard after the Krogan Rebellions. No idea how Cerberus had gotten wind of this, but you can imagine what would've happened had this bomb gone off." "All the krogan there... and the alliance you formed between them and the turians..." "Exactly. Time was of the essence, and I helped Victus and his men. This mission was too important. My team and I fought Cerberus while Victus bypassed the firewall Cerberus had set up around the trigger mechanism, but just as Victus had done it, Cerberus managed to hack the mechanism. The bomb was set to detonate. Disarming wasn't possible, so Victus climbed the bomb to separate it from the trigger. It worked, but it cost him his life in the process. Together with the outer shell of the bomb he crashed into the dig site... he died as a brave man. He saved the krogan, and the krogan-turian alliance." "I see. His father must've been devastated." "Couldn't have been easy, but he was proud of what his son had done." "Of course. I'd be, too." "After all this we headed back to the Citadel. Wanted to take care of some things there. But after some unexpected events, things got a little crazy." "Oh. That sounds like something big is coming up." "You don't even know how big..." Piiics That was from yesterday and today. I died once during the Turian Platoon mission, killed by Harvester fire even though I could swear I was in cover Then I failed to save Victus because for some reason the Atlas would not focus on me Then I died in the same section after being almost done by a frigging grenade I now bought the Wraith and will check it out for the first time on the next mission

I had a lot (for my standards that is) of playing time over the weekend, so I got to make some progress. Completed loyalty missions for Tali, Miranda, Thane and Garrus. More importantly I confessed my feelings for Jack and she told me she needed some time, so I have to be carefull not to talk to Miranda and Tali to much, I don't want to accidentally romance them (although after Miranda's loyalty mission, I got to admire her body, and I have to say, it's very admirable ). While on Illium I also recruited Samara, which let to the mandatory collecter ship mission, I was afraid that would lock me into the suicide mission, but I think I can keep doing loyalty / side missions as long as I don't go retrieve the repear IFF thingy. Still having a blast with this game, enjoying the conversations, and while I still have a lot to do (I skipped most side missions, and still need to do Zaeed, Samara, Jacob, Grunt, Mordin and Kasumi's loyalty missions) I am looking forward to ME3. Also I am running low on credits (that is I can't buy every upgrade available in the various shops) so I'm thinking of prioritizing some sidemissions to fund my research.

Just finished the Suicide Mission and the Arrival DLC after that. I think that the Suicide Mission is one of the most ingenious "final battles" out there. I mean, the way you have to build your team and obtain their loyalty and upgrade the Normandy and whatnot... It's really rather innovative. I guess the same applies for the whole game of ME2. The plot is quite unusual and you never really know what's going on. And there are so many ways to succeed and fail, so if one played it completely unspoiled, there would be so many different ending states based on the decisions the player has made. I still remember my first ME2 PT back in 2010 on Xbox. I didn't really care about the game back then, and I definitely did not complete all the loyalty missions and I knew nothing about the strategies of approaching the Suicide Mission. Still, I ended up saving everyone during the mission I don't understand how I managed to do that During my previous PT, Zaeed and Jacob died This time on, everyone survived and I'll look forward to seeing the impact of Zaeed and Jacob in ME3 (no spoilers! ) In the end, I guess I'll have to rate ME2 above DAI. The latter has the best moment/quest in videogaming history (Here Lies the Abyss), but on the whole it's quite patchy, while Mass Effect 2 is consistently amazing from start to finish. Thane's romance really stole my heart in the end It's weird that I seem to need multiple playthroughs before I start to fully appreciate great games. One point of criticism, though: The DLC companions suck ass I mean, the characters themselves are good but the content is so minimal, basically only one loyalty mission and that's it. On the other hand, Arrival DLC was intense, although perhaps not the most enjoyable thing I've ever played. It's so challenging and combat-heavy, and there's this very creepy atmosphere to it It's almost as creepy as the Derelict Reaper, which was a total nightmare :gasp: I think even my renegade Shepard was freaked out. Now I'm in Mass Effect 3 and just completed Priority: Palaven. During this PT, I'm hoping to fake the genophage cure , broker peace between Quarians and the Geth, romance Traynor and do a lot of badass stuff. If ME2 made me emotional... Well, the scene where the boy from Earth died and the Normandy left Earth, it gave me shudders. I really love the boy as a motif in the story. I hope I won't be an emotional shipwreck after ME3, but I'm fearing the worst It just gets so personal. And seeing Thane again, kissing him, seeing his bad health, it was so bittersweet. Also uniting with Garrus, hearing him tell his story of being first a C-sec officer, then vigilante, then leader of Task Force... I can almost feel the years that have gone by and the bond shared between Shep and him Btw, did I ever mention how great the default femShep looks? Also, I saw Kaidan in the hospital and gave him a bottle of whisky He seemed to appreciate the gesture - I knew the whisky was good for something! He forgave me for, well, whatever I had done which had not pleased him. Which was just as well, because if he hadn't been happy, I would have bashed his head with that whisky bottle Anyway, looking forward to playing more ME3 today after work, I think I'll head out to save that school from the Cerberus attack before convening the summit. Ah, good times. If only I had more time in the day for gaming
