Seems I am not the only one who starts new games with a basic Soldier/Warrior class first. I will do it again most likely even though I enjoyed the Engineer in all 3 ME games.
Looking back I think my Soldier Shep was the most boring gameplay class for ME in ME 1 and ME 2. I did starts with him again in ME 3 since...don't know really, "seniority" or "nostalgia" I guess. But then at some point I realized I barely use powers and the cooldown bonus suddenly went out the airlock as I stopped bothering about weight and packed every weapon. Then it became quite fun starting fights with a Sniper, then AR and closing in with the shotgun. The close encounter with a Banshee did not go as planned, but didn't discourage me.
So if in MEA I can pull off similar "walking armory" stunt, the Soldier playstyle will live on. And 3 powers...who needs then then, I got thermal clips!

I've always played as an Infiltrator, but on my current playthrough I went with a Sentinel and love it. The mix of tech and biotics is fun, and I love the armor, so I will probably favor that in MEA.

I am going to pick the explorer class since it is most likely going to be the class that will allow me to mix and match the archetypes.
Once that is done I am going: Adept combined with Vanguard combined with Soldier combined with Engineer combined with Infiltrator combined with Sentinel -which when all of them are combined together will equal: Beast-mode Engaged.

Apparently the Pathfinder class...whether we like it or not. So I guess I'll be a gifted Biotic and brilliant Engineer who's mastered hand-to-hand, melee weapons, and sniping skills... Ugh, it just sounds dumb. I wonder if this game is going to have any challenge at higher levels. Do what I plan on doing and just pick one class and stick with it for the game.

Hopefully, the number of points awarded per level slows as you progress (maybe even caps at some point) so I can stick with one or two classes at most. I don't want to end up with a bunch of points and nowhere to spend them.

Not soldier. It was my favorite class in the trilogy, but I want to get away from Shepard and just focus on a brand new experience.

I'll surely start as an Engineer, as I did in the Trilogy. Plans beyond that will depend on how the new system works for me.

At the end of the day how is the new system going to step on role playing? Sure at the beginning I was just as dubious as anyone but you still get the exact same Role Playing options just with more variance.
So if you have a Ryder who likes to be a Soldier AND a Infiltrator what does that say about them? It can say they prefer their soldiering and their ability to use weapons and keep things at a distance. Or they like to simply infiltrate, cloak, and go in and breach enemy defenses.

Sad to see one of my favorite classes bringing up the rear. Don't view that as the whole story. As I understand it the data is only collected from players first game. Admittedly I played a solder 1st time through, but over the sum total of God knows how many dozens of playthroughs I RP'd as an Engineer as many as all the other classes combined. Also, Soldier isn't necessarily highest because it's the most popular, but rather because it's the most familiar...and accessible to more casual gamers. People tend to go with the familiar. Sorry but I don't believe that info in the picture. I always need secondary and tertiary backup proof data to believe that data pictured. I need the link to the actual data mining and if not available I will remain in doubt. mai prendere per oro colato

Like you I've played several of each though now and have beaten the games with all 6 classes. The only one I don' t tend to use much is Vanguard but that's more due to my preference of keeping my enemies at range. I as thinkin of doing another vanguard soon as my last run as one was quite some time ago. My next Shep I'm planning will be soldier again though for the same reason in that it's been a while since I last played one.

First playthrough was with an Adept: I wanted to be a space jedi with a gun, didn't like it.
Second Set was with a Vanguard: I was looking up video on what looked 'cool' and the Biotic Charge fit that bill and it was really advertised as being some op ability. Found it a lot better then an Adept but still hinky.
Third set was through as a Soldier: I loved the Soldier, and loved my Soldier Shepard. (Abigail).
Four Set: Sentinel. Amazing class, at least in ME 2, an unstoppable juggernaught of destruction. Basically walking cover if you wanted to get down to it. I also changed the second sets class to Sentinel when I did my canon PT.
Fifth Set: Infilrtator: Another great class. Enjoyed it tremendiously but sadly I do not think it ever reached its potential.
So: Soldier, Sentinel, Infiltrator are the three classes I love, in that order.

first I'd like to say this - no offense to those who like to play the soldier - but for me I find Soldier completely boring and just meh, I've tried to play a soldier but admittedly I quit like 5 minutes in cause its just not fun.
For me in ME 1 - ME 2 - and ME 3 I usually go for either an adept or engineer and once in awhile I'll go for the Infiltrator but the thing with the infiltrator is that I would use the ability that you get to re-allocate the points to where you want them and what I do is remove all the points from the cloak and put it somewhere else and never use cloak
As I mentioned above somewhere in this thread I will start as the Explorer/pathfinder right from the start because its something that I think I'll like - a Jack of Trades and master of none or like a bard in DnD would be more like it

Take ME 2 for instance within the first five minutes of the ocmbat portion of the game you are restricted to one weapon, the same weapon no matter which class you are running, and you do not have any powers or skill points to really spend...like with all the other classes...if you are doing it for the first time.

I like the soldier class for shepard in a story sense. Just the average marine that steps up and saves the day.
But for myself, I get what Ravenous is saying about it being a boring class. It's just constant shooting, like playing any FPS or TPS. Whereas, with other classes you had the crazy tech from the future, the combos, or the space magic at your disposal. Livened up the combat portions of the game.
Granted, I did love the infiltrator but he/she at least had incinerate and the cloaking ability.

A lot shorter than the others. Or maybe they're crazy? who knows?

Im one of those guys who will invest in one class and then never switch profiles. Adds more replayability imo. First playthrough is going to be Adept for sure - im just a mage kinda guy, always been. My last Trilogy playthrough was with an Engineer though, so thats gonna be second. Never understood why that class was so unpopular.

I've played through the Original Trilogy with pretty much every class except the Infiltrator. It's funny be cause I love playing the stealth classes, but hate it if I have to take companions with me. My favorites in the OT were Adept, Engineer and Sentinel.
On my first play through in MEA? If things go the way I think they are, then I'll start mixing and matching right out the gate. Personally I don't think the skill and abilities are going to be in unlockable categories or class listings, I think you'll be able to choose most from the start, with more unlocking when you craft or experience certain things. I think that the class titles will be unlockable and provide mainly skill/ability bonuses and extra dialog options/Special actions. But it's also possible that I've missed something as well LOL.
What I really can't wait to see is new skill and abilities. In the ME3 Multi-player I fell in love with the N7 Demolisher Engineer and the homing grenade. I would love to see an ability like that in MEA. Oh and choices in Melee weapons have me intrigued as well.

When Shepard is a biotic, is there any additional dialogue with Jack or Kaidan about it? For instance, does Shepard say anything about his own training while exploring the Cerberus facility where Jack was held as a child?
