I've seen a couple videos and interviews that mention ME:A is based on a true story. I assume only thematically and not literally. Perhaps a story of a family on a colony ship to the "New World" in the 1600s or something like that. Does anyone have any insight into this? Or theories?

"Based on" is a vague term that means it could be based on a historic event but fictionalized to work in the Mass Effect setting or part of Andromeda could contain a story based on a real guy and his family and that would make it "based on a true story".
It's some phrase artists feel the need to throw around to have more credibility. It's just silly promotional buzzwords.

Those are all good guesses for sure. The missing ARKs are a clear comparison but I'm thinking it would be a story that's more about dealing with the locals. Giving the animosity of the Kett something like Jamestown might be more accurate.

What about more like Columbus' voyage? sure he lost a ship or two, and thought he was on a different continent then he actually was. but he survived and later managed to establish a successful colony. mind you hopefully our colonization efforts don't suck as much for the locals as his did  |

Maybe something similar to the story of Hugh Glass (retold in the film The Revenant)?
I'm connecting the dots here and surely I'm doing a terrible work, but we are at far the frontier in the middle of uncharted territory trying to carve a place for us. It also would flow good with the theme of the “Ghost Ryders in the Sky”.

Yeah, I've resigned myself to head cannon something that actually makes sense. And I tend to agree the AI would likely go the way of Roanoke or the Donner Party...assuming the 9th was actually wiped out in battle...that's another very possible scenario. I'm still holding out hope that the whole AI is just a front for a government(s) sponsored contingency plan against the Reapers that we slowly learn about throughout the game. |
