Has anyone here watched this series and/or played the latest CoD? There are A LOT of Mass Effect concepts. For instance, in "The Expanse", medics use medgel guns do not have bullets, but coolers. As for CoD, the game is a complete Mass Effect rip-off, with the captain's ship being a kind of "normady" where u can select your next mission (and that by using a map very similar of what we have in ME), and lots of other "resemblances". Strangely, CoD:IW and The Expanse also have very similar plots, with rivalry between earth and humans born in Mars.
My point is: has Bioware commented on this "similiarities" or at least do you think they should do it?

These are common threads in all of science fiction. While it's likely that the game and series took some inspiration from Mass Effect, it's hardly fair to accuse them of ripping off of one particular video game when there are many interpretations of the same concept out there.
To answer your question, no, I don't think Bioware should bother. It could easily be turned on them by pointing out the ways in which Mass Effect has "ripped off" other franchises.

I know the guys who write the expanse books have been pretty open in their praise of Mass Effect, a series which itself takes a lot of cues from Science Fiction that came before it. From the responses and interactions I've seen between some of the Bioware guys and, most recently, James Gunn it seems like they are happy to support other creators who are playing with the same tropes and genre conventions.

Borrowings and homages in SF (especially with respect to the 'founding fathers', like Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein, Bradbury, PKD et al.) are ubiquitous; so are re-heated old tropes. Actually I'd be really glad if they lifted a few themes from Stanislav Lem for the new game's exploration aspect (I have in mind the bizarre 'first contact' in Fiasco; or the incomprehensible sentient planet in Solaris). Star Trek (one of the obvious inspirations for ME) is already chock full of them.
No Man's Sky advertised itself as 'inspired by classic sci-fi'; but had virtually nothing 'classic sci-fi' about it at all, except maybe visual allusions to the style of trade paperback covers from the 70s-80s. I wish they had ripped off a few interesting ideas from the great authors.
Also, ME not only draws from existing sci-fi, but most importantly from Lovecraft. In the Leviathan DLC to ME3 they even included a descent into a secret underwater city to meet the original betentacled 'great old ones'. (Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey series is itself based on the very Lovecraftian theme of an incomprehensibly old galactic civilization that tinkers with the development of life on Earth).

Actually while I played the new COD I recalled the old space simulator Starlancer. The story, the ship, the newscasts after missions, all was so similar that I felt the urge to replay Starlancer again.

Mac Walters always points to TV shows he's watched as his inspiration, way back with ME2 interviews he did. He's probably seen the Expanse and felt there was something slightly mass-effecty there and then he used it for reference for the team to pinpoint what direction Andromeda could go in, hence the western-themed trailer and I guess overall visual similarities.

I love the Expanse novels and the TV show did a pretty decent job in following the story line of Leviathan Wakes. I hope they finish off the first book in the second series.
Aside from a few visual things in the show though I don't really see any similarities to Mass Effect (ancient protomolecule aside). Ancient aliens seem to be a pretty staple diet of a lot of sci fi these days.

Bioware itself borrows heavily from other stories all the time. The rachni are almost line for line the buggers from Ender's Game for example. Scenario: Insectoid/hivemind race gets into a war with humans basically from a misunderstanding and humans completely wipe them out in self defense. The boy genius responsible for wiping them out finds the egg of one last queen and makes a decision to save it and let her go someplace safe because he thinks humans went too far. It's in DA as well. I reread the Wheel of Time a few years back and remember thinking "wow, they borrowed a lot." There's the Seanchan: rigid, authoritarian invaders from over the sea who keep mages on collared chains. And then there's Tel'aran'Rhiod - the World of Dreams that mirrors the real one that everybody enters sometimes in sleep, but only certain skilled individuals can manipulate and move around freely. Entering it in the body is considered extremely dangerous and borderline immoral.

The Grey Wardens are pretty much the Night's Watch in Thedas, and the Blight DA's equivalent of the Long Night.

Ancient aliens seem to be a pretty staple diet of a lot of sci fi these days. This is a pretty good book on the fictional sources of 'ancient aliens' as a modern crackpot theory: a.co/0BUz5dYMore accurately, that 'theory' started as a late 19th-early 20th Century concoction by a bunch of wackos that called themselves 'theosophists'. Then in the 20s and onward the emerging pulp horror literature picked up on some of those themes. (Including not only the Cthulhu mythos, but the work of Robert E. Howard -- Conan the Barbarian -- as well) After WW2, a new breed of 'hidden history' wackos started publishing crackpot theories inspired by (plagiarising from) that literature. Of course it's everywhere, nowadays, but even before that imbecilic history channel (?!) show, 'ancient aliens' were already popular in film. ME used that theme in two senses; both in Reapers as the ancient galactic evil that played a hand in the development of civilizations, and also in Protheans' Prometheus-like acts. I'm glad that they didn't go too much overboard with the latter. In ME3, the scene in the Temple of Athame (what an imaginative name) was pretty amusing, especially with Javik as 3rd companion. (I can't recall if taking Liara was mandatory or not for that mission; I took her everywhere, as she was my waifu. Yeah I'm pathetic like that.)

I think the series gets a few more things in, specifically (spoiler for later books in the expanse series) they open a gateway station that allows travel to other systems, systems that humans begin to immediately colonize without really understanding where all of these new paths take them. remind you of anything?

Man ME1 was almost a totally rip-off of the main story and the enemies in Babylon-5. I couldn't believe they copy it when I re-watch it years later. Also no, the Expanse is much better even if there are similarities. Bioware could never create a character like Bobbie fucking Draper, they are afraid of other types of bodies or muscles for human women in the military and aggressive one liner humor.

And even more similar with A Wheel of time. The Blight, Aes Sedai (The Circle of Magi), Red Ajah (Templars), Gentled (Tranquil), Dream World (Fade). I read the book after I played the game and it felt so familiar.

The Expanse is NOT Netflix, it's SciFy Channel. If you have Amazon Prime, you can also watch it there after purchase. In some countries it's Netflix. Not really. In some country's it's Syfy's The Expanse, available via Netflix. How you watch it doesn't change who made the thing. It's like saying Half-life 2, made by Xbox! cause someone happened to play it on their xbox. I mean ok, maybe that's the only way they have to play HL2, but it wasn't made by xbox (or MS for that matter). edit: Oh, also, I LOVE Expanse. Freakin' great show. Though I always found it funny how the whole gravity when ships moving worked. I'm sure there moving in a different way then it seems and it all 'makes sense' but it just looks like they're going 'forward' but fake-gravity is pulling em down instead of back. One of those things I think is kinda silly but I love that the detail of the ships constant acceleration is what's making artificial gravity... or is it just the engines need to be engaged to turn on artificial gravity? I'm not actually sure about that. Whatever the hell the reason is, it's a nifty detail usually ignored in shows.
