So thanks to not having any kind of drop ship the craft is landing and deploying the crew while being completely and utterly vulnerable to all kinds of weapons intelligent lifeforms may have. You can scan the drop zone really carefully, if you miss properly armed enemy troops and/or they have technology to stay hidden and ambush the craft...oh well. Then it does not even have the means to defend itself. I don't think shooting out of its windows is going to be an option. The Normandy has all kinds of armaments, yet Shepard and crew still have to take out AA guns ON FOOT. What good are the Normandy's guns in this situation?

Yes, mission was not adapted for the Normandy usually. EDI said something like the Normandy can't reach some areas, so she could accompagn the crew.

Does anyone else remember way back when we were first told we were going to Andromeda and people was concerned that we'd be forced to play imperialist conquerors? Ya I remember seeing that on tumblr I think. Well there is Tyranny for that, really short but fun game. I prefer my space theme games with positive vibes and featuring a hopeful future.

Having weapons to defend yourself != Imperialis I don't think that is what pdusen implied. Just that when we knew the title from the leak and then the first trailer a lot of people talked about that possibility, which is clearly not the case right now. At least for this game.

OK fam, so I guess the next big question is: do any ships in the AI fleet (attached fighters/cruisers/ARK ships) have guns? What defenses does the Nexus and ARK ships have? I refuse to believe that there is no defenses anywhere in the fleet...it'd be like an alien free-for-all orgy of raping and pillaging if so, with nothing to stop a small Pirate frigate taking the whole AI fleet with one ship with a gun XD I'll knock this question Mac's way also The alternative is, the AI is a Buddhist colony expedition - but then the multitude of guns in our armory kind of 'shoots' that in the foot lol XD

I just repost some statement from my topic: For example we ride on mine. Wheel is broken. 20 soldiers are running to us. What is better: a) go out and encouter with 20 soldiers? shoot 15 of them from inside with turrels and then go out and encounter with 5 soldiers? Taking into account that fact that our team is armed and will encounter numerous enemies, isn't it more logical to replace our exploration vehicle with combat one?

Just that when we knew the title from the leak and then the first trailer a lot of people talked about that possibility, which is clearly not the case right now. At least for this game. I found it hard to believe even then. This is Bioware we are talking about, they can barely go through a game these days without preaching. Them trying to preach pacifism with the dumb decisions regarding having the Tempest and the Nomad unarmed seems more and more likely (which would be weird considering the core gameplay loop). RPG's that let the player play the "dark side" are not trendy these days apparently, not with Bioware at least. Which is exactly why Tyranny felt like a breath of fresh air. Well, I'm not sure Andromeda will rally preach pacifism though. If the Initiative is truly about being almost/completely pacifist that decision did bite them in the ass, given the problem found in Andromeda, as well as making the leaders look clueless and dumb, so it's not like this full pacific approach comes out as the best choice.

That one thing that actually may happen. Just like having the Tempest and the Nomad be weaponless doesn't match the fact the player himself will be heavily armored and heavily armed, I wouldn't be surprised if we have stuff like people saying how the Ai is about human ingenuity and the desire for exploration and 5 minutes later you're slaughtering the very people that made the trip.

Hmmm. Not having a large main gun makes sense, but leaving the ship completely defenseless doesn't. They're knowingly entering unknown and potential hostile regions of space. Even having a small array of GARDIAN lasers or disruptor torpedoes would help defend the ship if it's ever ambushed or while it makes its escape in the unlikely event that it is discovered.
I get that the Andromeda Initiative probably wants to promote peace, but even Star Trek's Federation arms its ships in the event that they're unable to reach a diplomatic solution or if they're attacked. That just makes sense to me is all. Crew safety should be paramount.

The vast majority of civilian transport have no weapons or armour. Do Forest Rangers mount machine guns on their trucks? Do police mount cannons on their police cars? Does Airforce One carry missiles under its wings? Do Arctic Exploration vessels have any armaments at all? н You're missing the point. Arctic expeditions and forest rangers know what to expect, and they are armed accordingly. They don't need grenades and rocket launchers, because they know that a good old hunting rifle would do just fine against a polar bear or grizzly. They have 0% chances to meet a T-Rex or stumble onto the Al Qaeda training facility. ...Well, the latter might still be possible but veeery unlikely. Considering everything we know about our 'local' MW worlds by the 2184, it would be like heading out into the arctic expedition with nothing but a swiss knife. And I'm too lazy to multiquote that part about killing a TM on foot - I need to remind you, that Shep is an N7. Also, Krogans did not have to kill it during their rite - they only had to survive. Rex and Shepard are the only ones who had actually taken her down. Not that it changes things for the 'officially noob' Ryder.

Because those were AA guns, see? We took them down on foot and Normandy had landed. Any other situation, which does not involve AA-defences - Normandy is ready to get in and make a flyby. Yes, I know - we (players) normally don't have an option to shoot things from the low orbit, but it's mostly because we don't need to. Normandy still has her firepower.

Sure it seems nonsensical right now, but is it possible maybe that guns and stuff is something we can add to the Tempest and or Nomad at a later time in the game, like an upgrade?
You know, possibly after we get our haunches handed to us by an unidentified hostile alien ship proving the foolishness of being a tin can with no proper defenses other than lifting tails and fleeing?
If this question has already been asked and answered, my apologies.

Can we ask Walters if he would like to explore an uncharted land with no means to defend himself from the brutally ferocios possibly school bus sized wildlife that inhabits it? Go ahead... ask him. Nothing is stopping you, is it? besides the fact that I do not do twitter?

Then why would you use "we" in your request if you were actually asking someone else to ask Walters about that? At any rate, I think the OP has actually said he would fire off another question to him and has promised to post the response if he gets one.

Yep I've fired him one a little bit ago, will get it up here for the crew once I get a reply I asked Macdogg which ships, if any, are armed in the AI fleet, and what defenses The Nexus has onboard.

Good question. Hopefully at least the ark ships or the Nexus have some defense guns installed. We have 20,000 colonists to protect, after all.

I think (hope, there better be) that the Nexus and ark ships will have defense turrets or guns or some means other than running away to defend themselves.
Not sure about the Nexus actually, if it is going to be like the Citadel, it may have a defense protocol in place similar to it, but i would have thought Hyperion and the ARKS will.
I can take the Tempest and Nomad not having one, but it would be beyond foolish and just awful storytelling for not one ship in the Andromeda Initiative to have a means of actual defense (possible offense).

I hope that we can at least utilize Remnant technology to upgrade our Tempest and Nomad with weapons. I mean the whole idea of not brining weapons into a potentially hostile galaxy is absurd, but ignoring the integration of this highly advanced tech into your vehicles at least as a deterrent when they can use it for their ground forces would be completely asinine. What are the Tempest crew going to do if they encounter a hostile alien species capable of space flight, have Ryder lean out a window and take potshots?
