So of all the previous opening missions/scenes etc from the past three Mass Effect games, which one did you like the most, for what reasons, and why Andromeda's opening mission/scene should evoke the same emotions or go for the same level of impact etc. Or, if you'd like a different sort of opening scene, what sort of opening are you hoping to see or expecting to see? (first time doing a topic and poll so apologies if any mistakes or errors have been made)

I voted 'none of the above'; it that weren't an option I'd have chosen ME1's opening. Since this is a soft reboot in effect, that makes the most sense.
ME2's surprise opening makes sense only in a direct sequel; and ME3's opening was as badly written as its ending.
As long as there's no 'kid in the vent' who goes on to become an agent of sentimental bullshit, it should be OK.

Personally I'm not suer but as long as the story is good I'm not tha tbothered how it opens up as long as the first mission gives us a chance to ease ourselves in like the first missions tended to do in the trilogy. By the looks of it the openiing looks like it could be a opening similar to ME2's. We won't know for certain though until the game releases.

I'm going with none of the above, though I think it will start a little slow-we wake up. Get a few others awake and then find we're lost, under attack, or some combination of them. Whatever it is, it will be a tutorial level of combat for everyone to get used to whatever new controls they're doing and hopefully give us some background.

I really don't have a preference in how they create the opening.
What I think they are going to do is something between Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 to give us information on how we become The Pathfinder.

I'm going for something new as well myself, though I think the past three openings have their pros, and certainly wouldn't have a problem if any of them were emulated.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I liked ME1 opener a lot more than a common opener where your character is disabled in some way and neeeds to recover memory/come back from death or near death.
I also would not mind the Jian's briefing be really the game's intro, before being dropped into inevitable first area to be taught to move with awsd, open a locker with gear and shot rats or malfunctioning drones....

I remember ME1's opening being in a WatchMojo video for worst openings in video games, which I took issue with, since I think its rare to get such a solidly crafted opening like ME1's in games anymore.
Just because there weren't any explosions or whatever fits Mojo's criteria for a good game opening, I don't know why they thought it was so bad.
Yeah there was probably a lot of dialogue for some people and not enough action, but the way the game seamlessly immerses you in the universe within the first five minutes was pretty masterful IMO.
Hopefully Andromeda will be able to succeed in quickly grounding us back in this universe, and within the world of the AI, much like ME1 did for the Systems Alliance and Normandy.

The kids standing beside Dad looking at Earth, the greatest planet in the universe, one last time. It will most likely be the saddest moment in the game. The biggest loss in not being able to watch football on Sunday's anymore.

I'd prefer something like the ME1 opening, but being entirely different would be an option as well. Didn't care for ME2 and ME3's openings. Although ME2's hole in the hull of the Normandy was pretty awesome. lol
Whatever it is though..
Please, please, PLEEEEASE be skippable. After that first 1 or 2 times... I don't NEED to watch it every time I wanna start a new game.

It will probably involve some massive failure in the Ark, that scenes from the trailer? I wouldn't be surprised if they are from the openning of the game.
If they are going for the exploration theme I'd prefer something else however, more like the first ME1 or a game like Rise of the Tomb Raider.

From what we've seen, it sounds like there will be a mix of all three. It looks like it will start with Hyperion having problems and having to wake up and solve them just enough to keep afloat, sort of like in ME2. Then, it's a mission to what we thought was going to be our new home but turns out to be a nightmare (like Eden Prime in ME1), and I'm sure we'll be introduced to the Kett there and start finding out the stakes of this mission (like in ME3).

I thought the opening of ME1 was great, on the first playthrough it had me hooked right away as it placed you into the world and built up to an event while also learning the ropes along the way, but without making it too over the top with explosions and panic from the word go. I also liked the ME2 opening - somewhat contradicting what I just said - because it suited the sequel despite being 0-100% all at once, it made sense in the series as the Normandy and all the staff were well known and loved from ME1.
As for Andromeda, I feel it'll be something akin to the original Mass Effect in terms of pace at least, and then maybe a sudden event as long as it isn't too much too soon to the point where it doesn't really mean anything in regards to emotion/care.

Well, something will go terribly wrong, obviously.
When? Probably at the start, yes.
I wish we could explore a bit of the arks before that, walk around, instead of jumping right into hell.

Mass Effect 1. I still get chills from that intro. Best intro, imo. To me, Shepard walking through the Normandy and the camera following them while the main theme plays is the most powerful scene in the trilogy. You get that feeling of the hero you are and the legend you will become. The galaxy's only hope.

Just something new and different for the pure sake of it being new and different. I'd love to have gone into this game without all the speculation that has gone on about it for the last 5 years... just to discover something for the first time. I hope they truly "surprise" all of us.

I certainly wouldn't mind something new like a quick flash of the Ryder family before waking up in Andromeda since Bioware has said you start the game arriving in Andromeda but something like ME1 would work to. ME2 & ME3 type intro wouldn't work here imo
Side Note:What's the beef with the ME3 intro? I've always found it fine as it made the Reaper threat feel much more real and overwhelming as it should be

I voted for ME1 opening not necessarily because it was my favorite but because I think it's possible it will be the closest to the beginning of MEA. What we have to remember is there are going to be people who haven't played the game yet so there are things that have to be explained fairly early on.

I think it'll be something like ME1 with its more low key beginning (Ryder wakes up from cryo, explores the Ark, talks to some peeps - so players get a sense of who we are and how we got here) but will then morph into an ME2 scenario where there's an incident and a fire and a crash landing (insert dramatic silent pause and MASS EFFECT: ANDROMEDA). And then we wake up and that's when we get our combat turorial.

I prefer Blue Team's intro, honestly. It's one of the few things about that campaign I legitimately like. (Since we have jetpacks and stuff now, BioWare should totally nick it for an action scene in Andromeda.) As for the OP's question... Mass Effect 2 has one of my favourite intros in all of video gaming - walking out into the destroyed CIC as the sound cuts out; seeing the Normandy flail, battered and broken, through space; Shepard, giving her life to save Joker - but I'd probably rather something slow* for Andromeda, as I think that'd fit better with the whole, 'grand voyage of discovery' angle. And having that slower-paced intro turn into a fraught fight for survival - which we already know'll be part of the early-game; it's been shown in the trailers, and discussed in the Game Informer coverage - would work to convey how dangerous that grand voyage will be--to quote my fourth-favourite Starfleet Captain, 'Risk is our business!' ... *Originally, I wanted us to start off in a classroom aboard the Generation Ship Hyperion, but we now know that's not the setup they're going with.

I'm in a minority here it seems, but personally I want something more like ME2 intro, because even in an universe where space traveling is just another day in the office, I find the idea of going into cryo for hundred of years for a one-way trip to another galaxy pretty fucking scary, tbh, and I wish they would make the most of it. The troubles with the ark could add to it. So, I think I'd like to start already with a crash-landing, it's dark, you're alone and lost and you sound scared "where is Scott/Sara/dad?", then something startles you, that kind of thing. All of this mixed with fast flashbacks of going into cryo with someone telling you next time you open your eyes you'll be in andromeda, then waking up to screaming and panic, etc. Something like this but well done, without all the cliches that I'm using if possible I definitely don't want to be eased into it, it would feel like a missed opportunity to me, I love the movies that make space travel scary and this is a great chance for it
