Now I fear what MEAMP is going to be like, a bit more than I already did. I wouldn't worry about it too much. DAMP's difference in potential between classes is quite pronounced for new players. The gap only closes between them because promotions affect stats, so the more you play, the more viable the other classes become. ME:A will be doing something similar, I think, so the same thing should happen there.

And then there comes another issue with ME3: there are no roles! To each his own. I think this is a good thing. It means I have the freedom to play whatever and however I want, and I don't have to worry about an inept tank/healer/whatever making the match significantly harder than it should be.

So, I played a ton of ME3MP back in the day, though I 'retired' when DA: Inquisition came out late 2014. Both are the games I have played the most in my life. According to Origin I have 2.7k hours in ME3 and 3.3k hours in DA:I. For me, ME3 was a great game, my first serious MP game and thus I use it as benchmark - particularly against DAMP, a game which despite playing so much I've always considered a to be an unpolished mess. Though I played a few ME3MP matches now and then after having 'retired' from it, I didn't play any over the last year. I didn't play much DAMP either. I took advantage to get to know other games out there, and I had a blast playing Evolve, Overwatch and Titanfall 2, as well as a the campaign mode of a few other titles. Now to warm up for MEAMP I decided to get back to ME3 this week and after doing so, ugh... it doesn't feel right. Firstly there are so many characters to choose from, yet some are so much better than others that having to pick out one feels stupid. I mean, why would you want to choose the Volus Mercenary over the QME? To have a few laughs maybe, or perhaps some headache? The gap is so tremendous that getting lower tier characters feels silly, while getting high tier ones feels cheap. In DAMP (which is supposed to be an inferior game... right?) there are 17 characters and they are pretty balanced among them. In fact there are no characters necessarily better than others, it all comes down to their roles. And then there comes another issue with ME3: there are no roles! Except when everybody is camping behind a Juggernaut and there is a shield spamming Volus, but otherwise the only existing role is the DPS one. It is the only role that gets XP. Nothing else awards XP. There is no incentive whatsoever not to play as straight-DPS-bitch-mode as possible. In fact, if you do not do so you are gimping yourself and possibly harming the team. After 4 matches I had enough. I don't see the point in ME3MP anymore. Today I got invited to play DAMP, played 5 hours of it and had a decent time playing, and it felt much more meaningful and rewarding than ME3MP. While DAMP is supposedly a worse, utterly unpolished game, it has a better proposition. A true co-op proposition. ME3MP feels like a single player game in a 4 Vs AI format. Now I fear what MEAMP is going to be like, a bit more than I already did. That's why I like it though, because it is both single player (pug) and new player friendly. As opposite to revolving around being invited, playing in a static, and knowing people in order to enjoy it. 4 years after release, I could just jump in, pick whichever character and play it. I have never played DAMP, but I love having all the races available in the ME3MP. I did not unlock that many kits or weapons, but I have unlocked enough to be functional and have lots and lots of choices what to play. I really like multiple species and their appearances. I assume in damp you are limited to 4 playable races. In terms of roles, on one hand, I love my Trinity, on another - I pug, and so I see the advantage of not having the roles for a faster pop and just having fun. I have played pvp in a trinity game, and skewed role distribution in a group can make for poor games, while using a group finder that asks for T, H, 2dd results in long waits. Plus, I am not sure about daimp, but in MMOs becoming a tank from scratch is extremely hard, and the tank normally carries an unfair lion share of responsibility. At some point, I wanted to try daimp, but unlike ME3MP, it sounded that this late in the game, I simply will not be able to start it due to the promotions bussiness and the RNG that requires long, long commitment for a catch-up player.

My in view that is the joy in playing Co-op games; relying on each other in order to overcome challenges. In ME3MP the ultimate team cooperator is the one who brings a Reegar with Incendiary Rounds IV and Armored Compartments.

The gap only closes between them because promotions affect stats, so the more you play, the more viable the other classes become. ME:A will be doing something similar, I think, so the same thing should happen there. This is true, I had forgot it. In DAMP there are some characters that are pretty much useless until you have got a decent number of promotions (such as the Avvar and the Katari). Moreover, for highly promoted players, pretty much any approach you take may work just as fine and chances are you won't die anyway. DAMP issues have clearly showed how shortsighted Bioware was in regards to that game. Nevertheless, when it comes down to pure cooperative team-oriented gameplay, DAMP has a superior proposition. ME3MP seems to be more of a 'let's put 4 DPS-whores in an arena and see who kills more stuff'. Personally, back in 2013 I thought that was quite fun. Today I think it is far less rewarding than what true co-op games can be. I hope MEAMP brings DAMP co-op proposition with ME3MP faster paced action, varied maps and refined shooting. But most importantly, I hope it has an above half-assed netcoding, something which Bioware is yet to deliver.

I tried getting back. But then I soon came across with one of the main reasons I had left in the first place: After months of playing online games which have dedicated servers, proper netcoding and lag compensation, my eyes can no longer handle this. Ouch, that certainly brings back some terrible memory.

I still play but very little compared to before I admit. I used to play almost every night but now it's only a few times a month and mostly if friends shoots me a message, asking me to come play, otherwise I'm a bit bored of it. It's still a lot of fun once I get started in a match with the buddies but I kinda need a reminder, a push.

I'm grinding away on a second account.
I prefer tanky DPS to squishy DPS myself.

I also re-discovered the sticky covers, and it's annoying as fuck. I hope they got rid of that too in our new baby.
