Keira's quest line and Towerful of Mice are absolute musts. Both have the kind of impactful C&C TW2 had. And Keira is one of the best characters in the game imo.

I can't play for a few more days yet, but have a question.
I notice and appreciate the villagers chatting but have yet to hear them say anything really relevant to main story experience. They may mention -local monster Geralt hasn't killed yet-
For example, in Val Royeuox, you can listen to two brothers talk about Chancellor Roderick's heroic death. Or a dwarf and a Orlesian discussing the changing politics and how they'll have to change their own actions in response.
But no mentions of Ciri, the Wild Hunt going Willy nilly about chasing her, gossip about the Baron being abusive to his wife. At least the latter I should have heard about before he was able to tell me.

I'll be finishing that quest, if only to return her magical cell phone. Besides, at level 8, need to get more experience somehow before going off to next big story

I've been following your adventures but haven't commented yet. I just wanted to second the advice that you read every book you can find. You will get a lot of information from them that you might not be privy to otherwise. The Witcher is super subtle and I missed a few things my first time through because I didn't find all the stuff to read or talk to the right people or missed clues in conversations and I'm not new to the series at all. I hope you have fun. The Witcher really is a great series, the stories are great. It is possible to be a fan of both TW and DA. I'm proof

They are too busy trying to survive the invading army, the local monsters, and the normal hardships of medieval life. When you get to Novigrad, you will hear NPCs talking more about global events, but Ciri and the Wild Hunt are still pretty much off their radar.

I notice and appreciate the villagers chatting but have yet to hear them say anything really relevant to main story experience. They may mention -local monster Geralt hasn't killed yet- Don't eaves drop on them, talk to them. But no mentions of Ciri, the Wild Hunt going Willy nilly about chasing her, gossip about the Baron being abusive to his wife. At least the latter I should have heard about before he was able to tell me. Sadly I don't think a drunk beating his wife would be particularly news worthy in that area. The people of Velen don't know who Ciri is. The Hunt don't really go Willy, or for that matter, nilly, they go quite willingly, and not in the least bit haphazardly, they appear only where they know Ciri or Yennefer to be. Of the few that have heard of the Wild Hunt at all, almost without exception, they believe them a fairy tale to scare little children. Few would have seem them appear in the swamp. All but one who witnessed them in Heatherton are dead, and you have to calm him down for him to talk about it. Those that saw them chase Geralt and Yennefer on their way to Vizima are all dead. Those that had seen the Wild Hunt pursue Yennefer earlier did talk about it, as the man in the tavern told you. Those that survive the Wild Hunt encounter in Skellige are disbelieved by anyone they tell. If you have the Xenovox from Keira, then she would have already told you of her run in with the tree spirit. (Though you wouldn't have realized that's what it was at the time.) Did the tree spirit tell you what she wanted you to do, and have you been there yet? Find that book Gileadan mentioned "She Who Knows" before you make a decision. (it's in many houses around Velen, and in book shops in the city) While that quest has no good outcome, one is considerably more bad than the other.

It kinda works since the Hunt is a bit like the reapers. I don't think everyone takes the threat seriously. But towards the end, this is a bit thin. The books do a much better job of it than the game.

Well, they know about the Baron beating his wife (the fisherman who helps Tamara get to Oxenfort tells you that everyone knows). I think in that case they are just scared shitless of the Baron and his men and would never talk about it load or publicly enough for Geralt to ever overhear (not to mention the meta reason that it would take away from the gradual reveal of what has been going on with the Baron's family over the course of the quest). Otherwise I agree.

Randomly, I can play!
Because I am under leveled and under monied, I now must go and do the Kiera Quest, Towerful of Mice, instead of held the Baron hopefully not die horribly against the Crookback Witches
And even though I beat the lv8 werewolf outside the spirit tree cave, I still can't beat Wild Hearts lv7 werewolf. WTF mate.

I have now figured out how to toggle between two pocket items in my toggle wheel. So...Why can't we have a toggle wheel in Dragon Age again?
So far have discovered some sort of peasant revolt turned haunting.... Sure there is more to it. Up I go!

Went onto a balcony. Random pole in my way so I meant to hop over it and instead Geralt pulls himself to a landing above. Neat! But I don't see anymore to it so jump off and-- go too far and die from falling off the tower. bah. Okay. Another magic lamp moment. He mentions piles of gold but I can't loot him for it. Booooooo! Went the stairs creaked that badly I thought there would be some sort of quick time event to leap to the next floor. But no. A painting fell down. Aren't these levers a bit too obvious to be hiding a secret laboratory seriously? The Conclave of Sorceress would have stopped the experimenting? Onwards.

I knew it. friggen knew it! Ugh!
So, bring Graham the bones of Anabelle. We have a right nice chat where Geralt unnecessarily tells the poor man his love was eaten to death by rats. And he just takes the bones.
And that seems the end of it. Get XP, go up a level, read the updated character bios. And I just have this feeling. No way the game is going to let it just be that simple. No way. But I step out his door, looking into his window. Nothing. Sigh. And just figure that the inevitable evil will just bite me later or something. Start walking away and then he screams, I rush inside and well...Yeah, her spirit (pesta) killed him.
Bah humbug.
Reads that bio update. Oh great. I've now spread pestilence. Coincidentally, it's also raining in the game.
*Rides horse to fishing village and hears random passerby cough*
*Feels paranoid and wonders if two are connected*

But I don't see anymore to it so jump off and-- go too far and die from falling off the tower. bah. BAHAHAHAHA!!! Exact same thing happened to me yesterday. As for the quest, yea, moral of the story is: don't trust random ghosts of psychologically unstable girls in rat infested towers with heartwarming tales that you just caught in a lie (could she now leave the tower or couldn't she?). It may be harsh but I like that the best option in this game sometimes is to refuse an NPCs fetch quest (and yes, I did make the same mistake the first time as well).

So, agree to Kiera's fetch quest. Head out her door. The Pellar is there. Wants me to help them run Forefathers Eve.
Honestly? I super enjoyed the whole ritual thing. I was really into it.
Then Witch Hunters crashed the party. I totally killed them for ruining my fun. Sure there will be some awful outcome to that decision but didn't care for their religious pushing on the natives AT ALL. The game says that was non neutral. But I say I signed a contract to protect the Ritual, and Witch Hunting Crashers count. So I think it's Neutral, game, take that.
And the Pellar seems kewl. I bet he killed his dad for a good reason.
*Waves optimism flag*

A better way to resolve it, is not take the bones from the tower, but take Graham to Anabelle. He still dies in a horrible tongue kissing scene, but it lifts the curse and they are together in death.

Ya know, I suspected she was tied up in that tower, and yeah, she did want me out of the way. But she could have gone any time, while I was hunting her package for example.
She still romanced Geralt because she liked him. So, regardless of what I find there, I kinda feel okay about it. Being her Prince Charming put a smile on my face.

With a feeling of sadness I cast Igni all throughout the tower. Game doesn't set the building on fire, but in my head/world, that tower is burning to the ground.
I go to Kiera's corpse and try to Burn her too, but the game doesn't let me even though I totally burnt the Pellar dad corpse an hour ago. But in my head, I burn her corpse and do NOT leave it dead in the swamp she so desperately wanted to escape...
And then I have Geralt meditate next to her for till the sun is high in the sky.
And then I leave. Goodbye Kiera.
Two loves ended on that island. I'll never return.

I just Zevran'ed Kiera Holy crap, never saw that outcome. Man, you really are doing a very dark playthrough aren't you? Didn't know that WAS an outcome? Or didn't know I'D pick it? The way Geralt said it, she was risking the King making a bioweapon just to see if we criminal status would be forgiven. I couldn't turn my back on that. And man, this game has really gone depressing for me. I cried a little after writing my Goodbye to Kiera post. I seem to be making the worst choices, people keep dying around me. Man. Reminds me of my first PT of Dragon Age 2. I'm a failure all over again as my family perishes all around me and my lover blows up a chantry
