Well, you don't have to, but it might make the convos with Cerys less annoying.

Ciri and Elf Mage teleport back to Skellige from some other plane. Things blow up, Ciri is sliced.
Ciri teleports to the Velen swamp accidentally, nearly gets eaten, then plops onto the Baron.
Where she goes to Novigrad and ends up teleporting again to Skellige.

But the game storyline has you go Valen->Novigrad->Skellige

Sounds about right. I think technically you can go to Skellige from Velen, though you still have to book passage from Novigrad, but the quest levels are higher and might be tough to do. What did you ask Corinne to focus on when you talked to her? I picked Dandelion since I already knew Triss hadn't seen Ciri and if Yen had seen her, she wouldn't have needed my help in the first place.

I kinda like that you don't exactly follow her path. Seems more realistic since you really have no idea where she is, only that there have been "possible sightings" in these various places but nothing specific as to when.

One of the questions Corinne asks is who you want her to focus on in regards to Ciri, since you are trying to find someone she may have contacted. The 3 choices I had were Triss, Yen, and Dandelion. The first two didn't make sense, so that left the third. Having her look for some connection between Ciri and Dandelion forced me to stay in Novigrad trying to find him. I'm thinking if you pick Yen, then maybe you have incentive to head to Skellige sooner? Or, maybe she doesn't sense anything at all since Ciri didn't find Yennefer, or Triss either.

Sounds like a good save/reload experiment to do next time I play.
