So I got the Brand schematic after catching the five harlequins. It's crafted under staff, but it's a warrior weapon. It's damage, even when using Tier 3 or Tier 4 metals, is less than that Tier 2, Tier 3 warrior weapons but it's elemental damage as opposed to physical damage. So, is it worthwhile? Did BW mess up with this thing? Or am I missing a key point regarding damage?

I think, Brand is for Knight Enchanters. It's a melee weapon, that allows the KE to be in the thick of things. I tried it with Riya, when she was specced as a KE (I'm trying different specs out, because I can't decide, which one to stick with)and it was practical for her. I think, it only make sense for the KE and no other mage spec. Many of the staffs, you can make, are better than Brand.

I think that may have been the original idea behind "Brand," but the end result is usable only by warriors and not even Vivienne can use it. There was another weapon - Blade of Tidarion - that seemed to be optimized for the Knight Enchanter. "Brand" seems to be a mistake.

It's a gimmick weapon. What turns me off about it is that the base damage is the same as a staff. So unless you want to purposely handicap a warrior by giving him a divide-by-4 damage debuff, I would avoid it.

It's not even funny how disappointed I was that I could not get brand on my Knight Enchanter. I just want my mage to hold a magic sword!

I think it was originally intended as a mage weapon, but then someone changed their mind without thinking it through. At least it with the Golden Nug, you could use it early game when Tier 1 weapons are still credible.

Sorry, I might have mistaken it with the Blade of Tidarion. I didn't think, there was more than one sword under the staff category
Edit: eventually, it might be Brand after all (have to look it up), but I have a no class restriction mod installed, I guess, that's why I can wield that thing with my mage
Edit 2: It is Brand, I just looked it up. SO you can use it with a 'no class restriction' mod on your KE.

Now what is the purpose of the "no class restriction" mod you mention? Is it mostly about letting the KE use a sword?

Now what is the purpose of the "no class restriction" mod you mention? Is it mostly about letting the KE use a sword? I have the 'no class restriction' mod mainly for armor (so that I can wear medium armor with a mage for example, otherwise I could not equip Riya with the Dalish hunter armor - I like some of the medium armors better, than the most light ones), but this a nice side effect. But that is also the reason, I didn't know, that Brand, while technically a staff, can not be equipped by a mage. I must have get the schematic in my older playthrough and now, it is in my collection and I can get it via the Golden Nug. I really didn't know what it was, until I tried the KE spec and thought, that a blade would be neat for this one. It is really a good weapon for a KE, I don't see much use for a warrior, since in times of the GN, you have probably better schematics for them after the first playthrough.
