I just did a quick search to see if there were any threads about this and didn't get any on the first page. In light of only being able to have 3 abilities at a time, I think this may or may not decrease the chance of having specializations in the game. A couple thoughts on this: B. Everyone can level up their character any way they wish and there will be trees that give us certain abilities to use at a time that are completely open and available to view, just like DA:I would be if there was only one class. [/ul][/ul] Thoughts?

It's probably buried and also part of the twitter thread ...
There will be classes in MP.
There will be specializations in SP, but you can re-designate your powers and specializations fairly easily.
So ... sorta kinda classes in SP, but they are not fixed and you can pretty much apply whatever powers you want, to your character ... limited only by the points you have for a level and the number of power slots you possess. Powers will be both active ... like flamer ... and passive. Ammo will be separate and will be an expendable, versus a power you turn on. Unlike ME3MP, your expendable won't last for an entire mission, but for a limited number of "clips."
For me, I will probably do individual plays through that focus on one specialty ... but the game will allow you to adapt your specialties to a specific mission and even within a mission ... so quite a bit of flexibility there. Details beyond that ... well, ask a dev, because I've pretty much told you what I've gleaned.

yeah they keep saying they'll give us moer info on this they haven't yet but hopefully they do soon I think its going to be funny I am kind of expecting/ preparing myself for a pure diarhea of information all at once towards the end. Not sure its good marketing per se, I think I would have arther it be evenly distributed already....but then I am already buying the game so Is should talk. yeah I was surprised they didn't erveal anythin gabou the game this week but there's only 1 more week in January so hopefully we should get something next week.

Because it updates your implant or... something. lol You need to go back to the Tempest to respec, IE choose an entirely new set of abilities to replace your old ones, whereas you can change profiles, if they are available, and your abilities, if they are available, out in the field.

We can unlock as many abilities as you want to (ability points not withstanding) but you can only use three of them at any given time. Apparently. Whereas if you want to access more then your three abilities you have to switch them out...somehow. Now how this is done is where the confusion lies, as far as I can tell.

Sorry, here's how we *think* it works: You unlock powers like normal, only you aren't restricted by a preselected class. You can use any power you unlock, whether tech, biotic or combat. Unlocking powers unlocks 'profiles' (soldier, engineer, etc... and explorer, which is a new hybrid profile of all three disciplines). Eg. if you unlock tech powers, the Engineer profile will become available. I'm thinking that the soldier profile is unlocked by default although that's speculation. Each profile has different bonuses (probably only passive but we'll have to wait and see). Engineers have a combat drone, soldiers have 'marksman's focus' which stacks weapon damage per kill. You choose whichever profile you want to use by going to the character menu, presumably at any time outside of combat. You can load any three of your unlocked powers into each profile. You can also switch these within profiles by going to the character menu. We're not sure yet if there will be a hotkey to swap between your chosen profiles (each with three powers that you last preselected for those particular profiles) on the fly. If that's not clear, I strongly recommend that you watch the CES trailer from Jan 4. You'll see the menus and profile/power switching in action.

Yes there are you get them in the undercroft where Harrit and Dagna are. But it does cost gold although I think in Andromeda it'lll be available fre of charge but only be able to do this in between missions on the Tempest.

I'm still kinda bummed about this on-the-fly switching. I really liked having unique playthroughs with different classes for the original trilogy. My guess is going heavy in one style won't be good for ME:A since they probably design battles in such a way to encourage you to re-spec for certain fights. To me that's dissapointing, from a multiple playthrough perspective. It's almost like all the Ryders will be somewhat the same now.

I'm still kinda bummed about this on-the-fly switching. I really liked having unique playthroughs with different classes for the original trilogy. My guess is going heavy in one style won't be good for ME:A since they probably design battles in such a way to encourage you to re-spec for certain fights. To me that's dissapointing, from a multiple playthrough perspective. It's almost like all the Ryders will be somewhat the same now. The game is larger than the previous games with an expected 100 hours worth of content for completionists. No one is going to wait 100 hours to try a different class. And everything points to getting better bonuses by sticking to a class, so you wouldn't have any issues with sticking to Infiltrator.

So, you can only ever have 3 abilities unlocked at a time? Like you can't unlock... incinerate, cryo blast, shockwave, adrenaline, singularity and flamethrower and have Flame, adrenaline, and incinerate in say the sentinel profile and have cryo, shockwave, and singularity in the adept profile? Then when you switch profiles it switches to the other abilities? I just thought the 3 active abilities meant, you can only carry 3 with you in whatever profile you're using. Is there somewhere where this is better explained? Like a video or something? I was a bit brief there. Sorry, here's how we *think* it works: You unlock powers like normal, only you aren't restricted by a preselected class. You can use any power you unlock, whether tech, biotic or combat. Unlocking powers unlocks 'profiles' (soldier, engineer, etc... and explorer, which is a new hybrid profile of all three disciplines). Eg. if you unlock tech powers, the Engineer profile will become available. I'm thinking that the soldier profile is unlocked by default although that's speculation. Each profile has different bonuses (probably only passive but we'll have to wait and see). Engineers have a combat drone, soldiers have 'marksman's focus' which stacks weapon damage per kill. You choose whichever profile you want to use by going to the character menu, presumably at any time outside of combat. You can load any three of your unlocked powers into each profile. You can also switch these within profiles by going to the character menu. We're not sure yet if there will be a hotkey to swap between your chosen profiles (each with three powers that you last preselected for those particular profiles) on the fly. If that's not clear, I strongly recommend that you watch the CES trailer from Jan 4. You'll see the menus and profile/power switching in action. That's pretty much what I was saying. You have 3 powers in whichever profiles you have unlocked and when you switch profiles, you have whatever 3 abilities you had loaded into it. I suppose the confusion came from me thinking you had to go back to base to switch profiles.

Regardless of however long the game is. That way, my Ryders will all be different and I don't lose the replay value. I was just curious how the switching worked.

If you wish to stay as one class throughout your playthrough you can it's your choice but if you wish to change your skills mid game you can do thattoo. I think Bioware is just opening things up this time because of the size of the game. Personally I'll likely do a mix of different Ryder's some will specialize in just the one class some will have skills across multiple classes I'm just not sure yet. I know my first Ryder will likely be an Adept but I'm debating also whether to make her part Infiltrator as well in that she'll be good at cloaking and sniping but I haven't decided 100% yet. I'll see how my story plays out first and make a decision then.
