More or less, yeah. The main difference between an SMG and a MP is the basis of the platform. Example: While the N7 Eagle is functionally identical to the N7 Hurricane, the Eagle is a machine pistol because it's a built up handgun design, while the Hurricane is an SMG because it is a bespoke design.
