So,
I played the original trilogy on the XBOX. I'm used to that circa 30 fps rate. I haven't played it on PC, and know that Andromeda will run 60 fps on PC. I always thought 30fps had a more cinematic feel vs 60fps. Seems like you would want higher but it's the cinematic thing that's holding me back. I played Witcher 3 at just under 60 fps at 2k on my PC.
Still debating to pre-order on console or PC. Also I'm used to the controller - but I can do that on PC as well. My PC has got decent specs, I usually run games in 2k. Have a GTX 980 Ti.
Just wondering which fps rate people prefer?

If it looks good for me, doesn't matter what the frame rate will be. I will be getting the game for the ps4.

For reference (as I have stated in the min specs speculation thread) I tried playing at 1440p and 4K for DA:I and did a benchmark in fraps for both. When I tried 4K I was shocked at how choppy it looked. Was getting around 35-45 fps average on 4K but damn if those dips into the lower 20's weren't brutal. I can play 1440p averaging a bit over 60 fps with drops down to about 40. World of difference.

Xbox One here. I'm not bothered by FPS, and I expect the multiplayer community will be robust, which I look forward to. With that said, if I had a good desktop instead of a geriatric laptop I would probably get it for PC as well, both for FPS and also the possibility of mods.

The higher the better. Especially in the case of the OT where enemy reaction times and accuracy are dependent on your framerate. Playing at 144fps is a completely different experience, and it's one that I enjoy.

Hrm, thanks for the input.
I wonder if I could cap it at 30 fps if I wanted to on PC. Also, is there a real concern that MP will suffer on PC vs consoles?

You know what? I'll buy it for PC and console I guess. Is that stupid? I assume I'd have to buy any DLCs twice then? I do want the box, and I wouldn't get that with the Digital Deluxe edition...

Yes, you will have to buy everything twice. And if you play the Multiplayer at all, your progress on one platform will not carry over to the other.

Playing the game in 900p at 30 FPS? (I just wanted an excuse to use that image, but I will be getting it on PC and probably playing at 1440p @ 60 FPS)

I don't know about consoles. However on PC the 60FPS is better for smoothness if locked to 30FPS on the PC the game can stutter and sometimes freeze at higher resolutions.

LOL, doesn't 1440p kinda make it odd if you have a widescreen monitor? I usually play in 2560x1600. But, I usually dont get 60fps locked in at that level.
Also, no comments on the more 'cinematic' look at 30fps? I seem to remember DA:I running at 60fps then cutscenes at 30fps for PC? Made the cutscenes seem more cinematic at least.

It depends on the monitor. Mine can go up to 3840x2160 which is a 16:9 aspect ration meaning that 2560x1440 is just a perfectly scaled down version of that. 2560x1600 actually skews the image since that's a 16:10 aspect ratio. I would run the game at 4k but my rig is a little bit dated these days which means my choice is probably between 4k @ 30FPS or 1440p @ 60FPS. Personally I don't find that 30 FPS has a more "cinematic" look to it and I find that the majority of games feels much better to play at 60 FPS than it does at 30 FPS due to game engines tying a lot of internal functions to your framerate. 30 FPS just feels sluggish during gameplay and rougher in animations in general to me.

The cutscenes were remedied by tweaking an ini file if memory serves. No there is no benefit to lower fps.

I want to hope ME:A is optimized better so I can get solid 60fps @1440p. Again, the thing is that you are the/a admin and so I don't think you go around just saying you will be getting that kind of performance without being able to back it up because your Rep is kinda on the line as an admin of the site.

I'll be playing 1080p 144fps on my pc so long as they don't lock the frame rate. But I digress you can make a pc for about the same price as console and will have an overall better experience so if your pc amounts to a decent $400+ custom pc you should be fine. As someone who transferred from ps4 to pc at the end of spring last year after 15 years of being a console player, I recommend the pc version. This way you can get the game and have more control over how you want the game to run. You want to see how 30fps is? Just choose that. You want 60? You can try that too. Oh and don't forget mods. But to answer your question I'd go for 60fps if possible on pc.

I'm running a Nvidia Titan with an i7-4930k and 16GB of RAM. I built the thing about 3 years ago when that was a lot closer to top of the line =P I can still maintain a pretty solid 60 FPS(a few dips down to 45-50 at times) in games like DOOM on ultra at 1440p right now which actually kind of surprised me that it still held up this well. It was only recently that I got my new monitor and before that I was running at 1024x768 on an old TV that I had lying around, so I didn't entirely know how well my rig would handle 1440p or 4k. Most games in 4k for me run at about 25-30 depending on how well optimized they are(and if I want to murder my poor video card by maxing out AA options). Admittedly I do feel a bit less confident about ME:A because DA:I wasn't all that well optimized, but I'm holding out hope that was due to it being their first foray into the Frostbite engine and that ME:A will be better optimized. Since I haven't run into issues at 1440p yet I doubt if I'll upgrade just yet. Probably in another year or so I'll think about making the push to get 4k @ 60 FPS

I prefer to play games at low resolution and low frame rates. The lower resolution improves the visual experience and the low frame rate is better because it's cinematic. Consoles are better for gaming because controllers are great, so much better for aiming compared to using a mouse. It's always best to use a controller, even if gaming on a pc. This is why xbox and playstation are amazing, they offer the very best gaming experience.

Mass Effect Andromeda has confirmed native controller support and you can play at low res/low fps if you want on pc. (why does part of me feel this was sarcasm?)

Well I guess the 'more cinematic' excuse isn't gonna go away anytime soon.
My only concern is if I'm to get MEA on the PS4 and for whatever reason the machine can't keep up the 30fps during certain rendering heavy scenes then the stuttering will become all too obvious. It has happened to FFXV and Witcher 3 before and it's painfully distracting.
I'm getting it on PC definitely.
