I don't understand how people can play games below 60 fps, it's not a game, it's a slideshow, you see a image after the other, less than 60 fps it's very annoying at first and then it's painful for the eyes, and the gameplay is slow so glorious pc, fps, and controller for me maybe i'll use mouse if i need accuracy fast, but i hope i can complete the game and play mp with controller it's much more comfortable

I'm running a Nvidia Titan with an i7-4930k and 16GB of RAM. I built the thing about 3 years ago when that was a lot closer to top of the line =P I can still maintain a pretty solid 60 FPS(a few dips down to 45-50 at times) in games like DOOM on ultra at 1440p right now which actually kind of surprised me that it still held up this well. It was only recently that I got my new monitor and before that I was running at 1024x768 on an old TV that I had lying around, so I didn't entirely know how well my rig would handle 1440p or 4k. Most games in 4k for me run at about 25-30 depending on how well optimized they are(and if I want to murder my poor video card by maxing out AA options). Admittedly I do feel a bit less confident about ME:A because DA:I wasn't all that well optimized, but I'm holding out hope that was due to it being their first foray into the Frostbite engine and that ME:A will be better optimized. Since I haven't run into issues at 1440p yet I doubt if I'll upgrade just yet. Probably in another year or so I'll think about making the push to get 4k @ 60 FPS Do you know what you get for DA:I @1440p? Admittedly I don't know what I get in DA:I since I don't have it installed at the moment(I'm perpetually low on harddrive space so I delete games I'm not really playing) and haven't played it since upgrading my monitor.

Good conversation all. I thought I was gimping the visual look a bunch if I went 1440p vs 2560p - is that a question of 2k vs 2.5k? I have a 30" monitor if that matters at all. I've tried some games in 1440p in the past, and it runs faster but things obviously were a bit less detailed than the 2560p. Also I seem to remember black lines at the top and bottom for 1440p, but maybe I'm mis-remembering.
Part of the origin of this thread was to convince myself to get it for PC. I've played all the old games on console, so I guess I have some affinity for it, just for this series. I'm reminding myself I did play DA:I on PC and enjoyed it (for what it was) - on 2560p with some slowdown.
If I have a PS4, XBX1 and pretty good PC - is there any reason NOT to get it on PC? I assume it's just where you friends are. And some dumb thought I have about ME:A being better optimized for consoles...

I assume it's just where you friends are. This is pretty much the long and short of it right here, get it for whichever platform the majority of your friends will be playing on if you want to play MP with them. If you don't care about that, there's no reason to pick console over PC since you already have a gaming rig.

You know what? I'll buy it for PC and console I guess. Is that stupid? I assume I'd have to buy any DLCs twice then? I do want the box, and I wouldn't get that with the Digital Deluxe edition... Not stupid in the slightest, this is what I'm doing as well: getting it on PC first for 1080/60 (got an i7 3770K+980OC, should do ultra fine) which I got at a really cheap rate a few days ago with that Origin 30% off deal. I'll be playing on my new 4K TV with an X1 controller (Couch Master Race), and then will grab on PS4 Pro at some stage for what will no-doubt be the largest MP community I'm guessing. Since I've started gaming on a KS8000, I've been neglecting my 1440p monitor and KB+M....it's just so bloody good!! Either way, these definitely are first world gamer problems, isn't it a great time to be a Volus gamer on the extranet, talking Mass Effect on the BSN! So close to release, I can almost smell the Biotic Wind!!

60 FPS is always preferable to 30 FPS. Always.

Just wondering which fps rate people prefer? 30 vs 60 fps isn't really a 'preference'. Everything else being equal, no one would willingly go for lower framerates. -- but 'everything' is not 'equal'; so people have to make a 'preference' with respect to the overall experience, based ultimately on what they can afford. So when people 'prefer' to play on console, or on older PC hardware, that's not because they 'prefer' 30 fps. I mean, vsync and emulation (incl. dosbox) aside, there's no such thing as a 'lower fps' option in any games. Or is there?

I've never paid attention to frame rate but I've never had a problem with the visuals on my Xbox. In any case I'll be getting it on Xbox because I don't have room for a gaming PC in my living room and I much prefer to play games on my living room TV than on a much smaller monitor upstairs in my office! I daresay I'll get the Scorpio when it comes out and then I'll be able to play 4K 60 fps anyway

PC, 60fps all the time, my eyes are sick, and I just can't stand less than 60fps Playing ME3MP with kb/m with 60fps+ is just so fast and fluid

I think there is absolutely no benefit of 30fps. Even if you think it's more cinematic (despite 30fps not being a film standard), I don't think cinematic means better. Film has natural motion blur, which a rendered frame doesn't have unless it's added in post-processing, and that doesn't look good. Because of fundamental differences between film and a real-time rendered video game, 24fps in films looks infinitely better than 30fps in a video game. So with games being games and not movies, I prefer my framerates high and my motion blur nonexistent. I prefer to play games at low resolution and low frame rates. The lower resolution improves the visual experience and the low frame rate is better because it's cinematic. Consoles are better for gaming because controllers are great, so much better for aiming compared to using a mouse. It's always best to use a controller, even if gaming on a pc. This is why xbox and playstation are amazing, they offer the very best gaming experience. Mass Effect Andromeda has confirmed native controller support and you can play at low res/low fps if you want on pc. Do you know what you get for DA:I @1440p? Admittedly I don't know what I get in DA:I since I don't have it installed at the moment(I'm perpetually low on harddrive space so I delete games I'm not really playing) and haven't played it since upgrading my monitor. This kinda concerns me TBQH. Like I don't know what you are comparing your system to to others to say that you could run ME:A @1440p with the hardware you have without a good test. I gave my tests and you didn't seem to give it much credit. I have an objectively better system than you do so for you to say that you can run ME:A @1440p with just a titan when I have 2X 980s and I just barely average 60 fps @1440p seems a little weak. And my test is with Vsync off btw. That said, we DON'T know how well ME:A will be optimized and we DON'T know how demanding the game is going to be on hardware; we can only speculate at this point.

Well I say probably 1440p @ 60FPS cause that's what I can maintain with decent reliability in other modern games, notably Battlefield 1 which runs on the same engine with large maps as well. The main unknown there is that Battlefield 1 is a pretty well optimized game by the people who made the Frostbite engine while ME:A is made by another developer who happens to be under the same publisher as the people who made the engine. I've also tweaked hardware settings to push more performance out of it. I think I also noted I do see some drops to the 45-50 range at times. As a result I'll actually turn a few settings down when playing games like Titanfall 2 since I care more about maintaining a solid 60 than I do about things looking as pretty as possible in a fast paced competitive shooter. I suppose I could always reinstall DA:I and see what I can put out on that.

60fps is the preference regardless of game type. Cuts down on input delay, so when you press a button, something happens on screen sooner--cutting down on those bullshit "But I attacked him!" moments where you die because the game registered your input too late--you get a more natural movement if the game is animated properly versus just ran at double the speed, and when frames end up dropping as they often do, going from 60 to 45 or 30 is still playable while going from 30 to 25 or below is just a horrible, disgusting mess.
30fps games aren't a turn off since I have a console and I love Uncharted and various others, but when it comes to taking a hit on visuals to achieve a higher framerate, graphics are taking a hit every time.
