Cora and Liam are obviously the first squadmates, given their role in the Pathfinder team. The others are stated to not be in the squad, or Hyperion for two of them. And Drack I recall it was recruited in a planet, although I'm not sure.

Bioware did say that Alec wasn't the protagonist, but didn't say anything about him being a playable character.
My opinion is that in the beggining of the game, you'll be assigned as DadRyder along with Drack and Cora(according to the first reveal trailer) and things go bad for DadRyder, but Cora and Drack manage to come back and say something of "They killed him/captured him" and the best commander to find the lost Ryder is his own son/daughter and then we get assigned as the Pathfinder, instead of Cora, which should be the logical choice.
Of course, this is just a wild speculation.
