I'm thinking that too... I wonder if the whole him choosing between us and his people (or us and something) will come into play as some speculated. Where even a happy ending with him and us together is kind of bittersweet. Or it's just his personal story that's sad, and romancing him reveals a bit more of whatever that is because he has to work through it before he can commit to us (please don't be a dead lover please). No squadmates die, remember? I would say... sad past, sad love story, or he loses something... wait! Didn't they say a bug about having sex and an emotionally inappropriate time? My first thought was Jaal then. What if something horrible happens to his people? Oh no... It'll be a Zevran romance. He fell in love but was betrayed (did the betraying) This is why my canon Mage-Warden romanced Zevran, I wanted (or did I) to cry. It was sad. Perhaps Jaal's sadness involves his 'ear' too? |

As long as it's not like Thane, I'm fine with drama and tragedy. Thane's went too far for me.
I'm taking "oh god no" to the like Solas comment to mean it's probably not that bad. Angst more akin to Fenris and Ander's romance perhaps?
I think being a relationship between different species could be a big source of drama on both sides. I guess since it's very vague it could mean anything though. Operating under the assumption that it's true of course. I remember a dev saying there was a bug that lets you sleep with someone at an inappropriate and emotional moment, so I was thinking something bad happens that affects Jaal. There's really just so many possibilities if we consider this for Jaal. Especially since we know nothing aside from "gentleman" about him still. I'm just gonna cross dead lover off the considerations though, because I hate that and I'm tired of it. If that's what happens, "sad" is NOT the word anyone would use to describe how I'd be feeling during the romance.  I hope it's nothing TOO serious like his people being wiped out or anything. There was that one scene in a trailer a while ago showing Angara entering... doors? Chambers? Ships? Was there ever a dissection of that? When I watched it, it seemed awfully ominous. |

Yea, it's really funny sometimes when you look at a dev tweet and seeing them posting something vague. I admit sometimes i get out my tin foil hat when I see some. "He's talking about the Nomad shaking?" Nomad romance confirmed? "SAM does something in our heads?" Subplot where SAM turns into a rogue ai and uses Ryder to rule the galaxy confirmed. Speaking of which I wonder if the Angara people have had a machine war yet. |

The bug allowed you to sleep with him. Romance is going to involve watching the guy lose everything. The other possibility is he has issues with humans, a tragic love story or something bad but not deadly happens to him. |

Yes, although I admittedly haven't been following much ME:A news aside from Jaal stuff in this thread and romance info. That scene has basically no context though, so that's only a gut feeling. Well no context other than the very intense music playing. xD Yeah, I won't be romancing Jaal my first playthrough either. I'm quite taken with Liam so far too, so I'm going for him first since he's more likely to be the happy drama-free friends-to-lovers relationship. I'll let other people do the Jaal romance first, so I can get an idea of what I'm getting into first. If he's going to potentially dump me I want to be prepared at least (or know how I can prevent it if it depends on my game choices.) Idk, I can see an ending where you get dumped being happy/sad if he says he still loves you blah blah but he has to go home to marry some angaran woman for the throne and you can be his mistress. If you recall, I said Jaal was just too good to be true, and the devs were heavily pushing his romance, so I was wondering what the catch would be. BW never makes it that perfect right?
