What if it's not just someone special to him but like, his entire squad? He comes with us and brings his team to help us on a mission (assuming he's some kind of military leader) and then his whole team ends up dead, or worse they attack us and he has to kill them himself? Going with the controlled by Kett theory of yours, that is.
I suggested a dead LI before but everyone seemed upset about that possibility, and who can blame them really, they've done it with Thane before so I think it's very unlikely. Maybe he's lost like a brother or something? That wouldn't have much to do with romance though.
Yeah I like that idea too, but the entire squad thing is a bit like Garrus though, so that's why I thought maybe the whole colony gets wiped out or someone dear to him dies, but if it's his squad, instead of hearing about it, we might actually see it. Everyone just standing there at a distance watching them get slaughtered because we can't get there in time or something like that.
I'm hoping Ian liked my Thane tweet because it means I'm not going to jump his bones if he's in mourning lol Lmao I hate my phone I just lost an entire paragraph. Wow I totally forgot about Garrus. They probably wouldn't go for the guilt thing again, you're right. However an entire colony is also a bit too much, as in they wouldn't go there? Either way I think something would happen to make this "war" personal for him, maybe? And perhaps he joins our team to get revenge on the Kett, as his own people are going for the more diplomatic approach - but it's also a bit too late for that, maybe? I can't really imagine him as a bloodthirsty revenge-seeking character though.
There are so many possibilities for Jaal, and all of them seem equally unlikely lol. I really hope they did something good with his character and backstory. Although after all the speculation we've been doing for 200 pages, I can't help but feel like we're setting ourselves up for a disappointment, no matter what they do with him. Sigh I hope I'm wrong

I haven't played Dragon Age, so am at a loss when it comes to knowing or being able to compare romances from that series, but as to the whole "forbidden love" theme, I hope for something kinda akin to the sweeping operatic nature of Anakin and Padme from Star Wars. I am not saying I want a melodramatic, cheesy, poorly acted and scripted romance. When I say Anakin and Padme, I am strictly talking about the forbidden nature to their romance and love. Their love in many ways doomed the galaxy. Anakin was forbidden to love. I can easily see a small element of this be emulated within the Jaal romance, since it fits in with him being angara romancing a human. They can easily be a forbidden nature to it and the romance, which I'm a real sucker for No worries bro when someone says "Anakin and Padme" my mind automatically bypasses the shitty prequels and jumps to Clone Wars and Clone Wars only And I agree; that would be very cool. "It's us against the world" kind of mentality, although I would rather Jaal's romance with Ryder not bring about the destruction of the galaxy Perhaps there is a strict "no outsiders" rule when it comes to romance and sex among their people, and Jaal defies this for you (if you so choose). That would be... well! It would be very romantic. About spoilers: My request is that we not talk about them AT ALL unless under spoiler. Even putting the actual spoiler under spoiler and then saying (NOT in spoiler) "I'm really worried about this if it's true" is too much for me personally. I do not want to know ANYTHING (other than his gender preferences) before the game. NOTHING! I agree

[snip] I've mentioned it before that I was thinking about maybe writing something myself concerning ME and I did. Uploaded it on FFNet because I don't have an invitation for archive of our own. It's not much, it's in English which was a bit hard for me to do...I think if I write again I will stick to German...makes it a lot easier for me to express myself but still I had some fun and hope another person here might enjoy it as well. Since I was inspired by you lot to give it a try at least. I read it and loved the imagery! I also really loved the way you described Jaal and how he acted. I'd totally read a sequel, if you're up for it - in English or German, although I think your English is really good, so no need to sell yourself short! Thanks for sharing!

Whaaaaaaat!!?? If you get the chance, you should really try them. One day, maybe. I should I know, given that Mass Effect are my favorite games ever, but I am really fussy and particular about fantasy. I don't know why, and really looking at what fantasy I love, it doesn't make sense at all. Like for example my two favorite pieces of fantasy fiction are Harry Potter and Game of Thrones. And even though I haven't played them in a looong while, I used to be a hardcore Elder Scrolls gamer, having taken a liking to the series with Morrowind, absolutely fell in mad love with The Shivering Isles, and clocked in over 1000 hours on Skyrim It might be disagreeable to some, but the "fantasy" in Game of Thrones and TES has set the bar high for me if that makes sense? I'm not sure I'd like Dragon Age. When I eventually stop playing Mass Effect: Andromeda, and there are no imminent games on the horizon thereafter I'm hyped for, I'll give Dragon Age a whirl I totally understand; I find Dragon Age really derivative (but then so is Harry Potter) and in fact I'm pretty sure they pulled from the Game of Thrones series when they created it as well (The Wardens / The Watch, just one example). You would probably find Origins quite boring because it's basically every fantasy novel ever. DA2 is more modern in its storytelling and the characters are pretty interesting, but the story feels rushed; nevertheless, it's my favorite of the series. DAI is definitely more mature, but it has its fault. I actually found DA first (DA2 in fact) and that led me to ME. ME is by far my favorite. I initially got into BioWare games because my brother-in-law bought DA2 and invited me over to play with him. We made a female Hawke and were shocked when we realized we could sleep with "the pirate lady" as my bro-in-law called her LOL That intrigued me. I did some research and realized I could ROMANCE (had never heard of this in games before) anyone regardless of gender. Well that reeled my ass in lol I bought an xbox, bought the game, romanced Fenris approximately 20 times then tried all the others as well (minus Sebastian). I did eventually buy DAO, too. I held off on ME3 because people complained about it soooo much but upon realizing I could again make a guy and romance a guy (and I did a LOT of research on Kaidan and watched some scenes with him and decided I could love him), I finally bought and played it. And cried my heart out. And replayed it. And cried again. And finally bought ME1 and 2 and played the whole trilogy. And cried more lol

Hey guys, just saw this fanart on tumblr with the descripton: Imagine Jaal developing feelings for Ryder and then his pupils dilatate everytime he talks to him/her. Imagine! Discuss! I think it might be a nice touch, as long as its just a subtle effect, but I wouldn't be disappointed if it doesn't happen This is adorable!

When I eventually stop playing Mass Effect: Andromeda, and there are no imminent games on the horizon thereafter I'm hyped for, I'll give Dragon Age a whirl Haha I understand this completely. I'm the exact same way except with sci-fi. My dad was in a sci-fi club growing up(back when that was super duper nerdy) and had a whole collection I grew up reading. So now I find myself pretty snobbish about sci-fi... Even if when I think about it, I never even read a lot of his collection. I only played Mass Effect because I got a copy of Mass Effect 2 for free with my DA2 pre order. I have actually still never played Mass Effect 1... haha. I didn't even play ME2 until right before ME3 was released also. I already find Andromeda a lot more interesting than the original ME trilogy though. Missing out on following it from beginning to end, the way it sort of becomes nostalgic and dear to your heart(Like the Dragon Age series is for me) was a big part of it I think... I'm really hoping Andromeda will make Mass Effect like that for me. Umm I guess what I mean to say is... a bioware game is still a bioware game and in my eyes makes pretty much any genre entertaining. I played the original Mass Effects expecting to not like them at all (I hate using guns) and ended up enjoying them even if it wasn't enough to play through multiple times like a DA game. ^^ And look at me now, lurking and posting in the forums for it. This is it for me. At their heart, BioWare games give me the opportunity to create the hero I want to be, a deep cast of characters to connect and fall in love with, and so much replayability. I'd enjoy a BioWare game regardless of its genre because I know that it will have these tenets. So yeah, "a BioWare game is still a BioWare game" describes it perfectly. It helps that I find the lore of every game they've created genuinely interesting. But anyway, that's enough off topic derailing from me.

This is true and I actually agree with Oleander I was just too lazy to reply Sorry friends if I diss all over DA or anything else anyone loves. I sometimes talk to hear myself talk, or type as it were I don't think you need to apologize at all haha. I thought it was a fair critique of the games. And hey DA2 is my favorite too. In the end people value different things in storytelling and have different things that "hook" them. For me it's word building and companions. Which is why I liked DA2, it was so centralized but I fell in love with absolutely everyone in my party. And for me, loving my companions and wanting to have all of them around all the time really makes a game for me. So even if Prince E plays DA and doesn't like it that's fine, I just think it's good to give it a try because I felt the same way about ME and was pleasantly surprised. ^^ And on connecting it to be more on topic: It's partly why for once I'm super pumped for MEA... almost as much as I was for DA:I. The Angara and Kett being brand new species, and in a new place really excites me. Jaal being a romance from a brand new species just has so many possibilities and the Angara are a really cute/interesting looking alien race. I really love aliens and non-human races and I hope they put a lot of lorey-bits and thought into it.

Hrm, I was hoping the devs might at least let a little something slip today, but it's been slower than molasses around the forums. I am hoping that with tomorrow being Valentine's Day, they might let something juicy slip, but not really expecting them too.

That forehead really did make him look...shellfishy. Haha. His forehead doesn't bug me at all really. I actually quite like it! You can't really see it from the front, then you look from the side and its like BAM! It's possible that they reduced the size in the actual game model... else kissing scenes would be really awkward to animate!
